What Does The Devil Know About The Star?
12/14/2015

Daily Devotions: by Christina Farris

Numbers 24:1-19
(1) And when Balaam saw that it pleased the LORD to bless Israel, he went not, as at other times, to seek for enchantments, but he set his face toward the wilderness.
(2) And Balaam lifted up his eyes, and he saw Israel abiding in his tents according to their tribes; and the spirit of God came upon him.
(3) And he took up his parable, and said, Balaam the son of Beor hath said, and the man whose eyes are open hath said:
(4) He hath said, which heard the words of God, which saw the vision of the Almighty, falling into a trance, but having his eyes open:
(5) How goodly are thy tents, O Jacob, and thy tabernacles, O Israel!
(6) As the valleys are they spread forth, as gardens by the river's side, as the trees of lign aloes which the LORD hath planted, and as cedar trees beside the waters.
(7) He shall pour the water out of his buckets, and his seed shall be in many waters, and his king shall be higher than Agag, and his kingdom shall be exalted.
(8) God brought him forth out of Egypt; he hath as it were the strength of an unicorn: he shall eat up the nations his enemies, and shall break their bones, and pierce them through with his arrows.
(9) He couched, he lay down as a lion, and as a great lion: who shall stir him up? Blessed is he that blesseth thee, and cursed is he that curseth thee.
(10) And Balak's anger was kindled against Balaam, and he smote his hands together: and Balak said unto Balaam, I called thee to curse mine enemies, and, behold, thou hast altogether blessed them these three times.
(11) Therefore now flee thou to thy place: I thought to promote thee unto great honour; but, lo, the LORD hath kept thee back from honour.
(12) And Balaam said unto Balak, Spake I not also to thy messengers which thou sentest unto me, saying,
(13) If Balak would give me his house full of silver and gold, I cannot go beyond the commandment of the LORD, to do either good or bad of mine own mind; but what the LORD saith, that will I speak?
(14) And now, behold, I go unto my people: come therefore, and I will advertise thee what this people shall do to thy people in the latter days.
(15) And he took up his parable, and said, Balaam the son of Beor hath said, and the man whose eyes are open hath said:
(16) He hath said, which heard the words of God, and knew the knowledge of the most High, which saw the vision of the Almighty, falling into a trance, but having his eyes open:
(17) I shall see him, but not now: I shall behold him, but not nigh: there shall come a Star out of Jacob, and a Sceptre shall rise out of Israel, and shall smite the corners of Moab, and destroy all the children of Sheth.
(18) And Edom shall be a possession, Seir also shall be a possession for his enemies; and Israel shall do valiantly.
(19) Out of Jacob shall come he that shall have dominion, and shall destroy him that remaineth of the city.

What does the devil know about the Star over Bethlehem. It is interesting dilemma of scholars when it comes to faith and what can be duplicated by the devil. As we prepare for Christmas, the celebration of our Lord’s birth the devils of the ancient world looked for the special star to appear in the world. Several things we can know is the false prophets of old relied on the prophesy and words of the ancients groups. Perhaps as trade routes came into place these stories of each tribe was learned and these stories would be repeated in prophesy or blessings from those not of God. A blending into each group so trading was made much easier. It kind of learning someone language to be able to converse with them more readily. If I desire to be airplane pilot my best bet is to study aviation to know something about planes. Yet if I care nothing about airplanes the knowledge might be more useful to make a sale of airplane parts. There are many counterfeits in our world today of people who know the language of many things but are not skilled in any of these things to know how anything really works. I do not want an imitation doctor taking out my gal bladder just because he read the book, I want someone who been trained to remove it. Someone that study with another doctor not just picked up a book and said oh I think I be a doctor today. One might survive the surgery if nothing major is cut, but then again you never know you might not make it to see another day. There been episodes of television series were doctors had skills but never performed a surgery and had not the knowledge other then books. That different is one has knowledge based on other things in that field, even if they never performed that particular surgery. In fact those other skill will help make sound decision on how to do something. Yet you would not want a Emergency medical person doing a major surgery.

What the point of all this nonsense of skilled and unskilled workers doing the job of a skilled worker. Balaam was skilled in his job. He knew that blessing God’s people was productive and cursing God’s people was dangerous. Balak had no fear of God and only desire his will in the matter, never thinking of the power of God. Yet Balaam was so skilled and experienced God first hand, he began to use the stories of the ancients of the tribe of Judah to bless Israel and their future king. He knew one day the prophesy probably would be true but when and how was one of those things he knew not. In fact those looking for the star of David to appear was waiting based on ancient prophesy about a star, where the scepter would not depart from the land. Balaam only fear God but did not worship God. In fact Balaam was only a prophet of deception not of God. Yet he obeyed God by sharing the message of Israel in form of a blessing. He knew to curse Israel caused disaster, and he knew not to do it. He fear the one true God but had not reach a point of trusting that one true God.

The fear of Israel is on many nations even today, whether they believe in God or not. It says something about a people and God. People respect the laws of God if they understand it is about love, but the corruption of society getting worse with each passing day, and sin growing rapid, one can not agree to the base laws of God any longer. Christ came to take away the law. And the Holy Spirit would right the law of love on our hearts. Yet not all interpret the law of love the same way. In fact that law of love that reigns is corrupt by God’s original law. Tolerance of evil is what that law really should be called. To be a sacrifice one is allowing tolerance, and forgiveness to a point that correction never occurs. Love and correction is one in the same and yet the same standards of living must be applied to all. No one agrees on the same standards today.

The law of love has to have a rod of iron to make it work. Across America there many groups of people that segregate for one purpose to disagree with another group. And yet standards are made to fall inline with the group you live in. The line of segregation are being dropped by everyone who lives side by side seeing each others life styles. Israel had a set standard of how one lived. Christians have a set standard for those that grow up in the faith and those who never did.

Balaam knew to please this God of power was better then the consequences. Yet Balak disagreed. Even the devil knows to please God and declare his work and live by his laws so all things go smoothly. The word of Israel power had reached the false prophets. Reached those ears and he knew that he was not in the same league. When you can not fight them you join them, unless it comes to doing it God’s way and not man’s way. To fear God is to shun the devil. To bless God’s people instead of destroying them.

Is the world fearful of Israel, the answer is yes, but they fear Islam too only when it comes to destruction. Israel God moves mountains, divides the water and promote good things for living. Most of all God always speaks truth.. A star was the true sign of a king being born. Something God designed and God declared to his people and to the heathens for sign that they might believe. Even the devil believes and trembles according to James 2. Though Balaam feared God he was not willing to give up his other idols. He was no different then King Abimelech. That something to think and remember about those that do not embrace God and Christ only.

Dear Heavenly Father with the reminder of the star that appeared to honor the birth of a new King, may be praise your name that you spoke even to the heathens the truth about Jesus. In Jesus precious name, Amen.
