Daily Devotions: by Christina Farris

Isaiah 40:1-10 KJV
(1) Comfort ye, comfort ye my people, saith your God.
(2) Speak ye comfortably to Jerusalem, and cry unto her, that her warfare is accomplished, that her iniquity is pardoned: for she hath received of the LORD'S hand double for all her sins.
(3) The voice of him that crieth in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the LORD, make straight in the desert a highway for our God.
(4) Every valley shall be exalted, and every mountain and hill shall be made low: and the crooked shall be made straight, and the rough places plain:
(5) And the glory of the LORD shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together: for the mouth of the LORD hath spoken it.
(6) The voice said, Cry. And he said, What shall I cry? All flesh is grass, and all the goodliness thereof is as the flower of the field:
(7) The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: because the spirit of the LORD bloweth upon it: surely the people is grass.
(8) The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: but the word of our God shall stand for ever.
(9) O Zion, that bringest good tidings, get thee up into the high mountain; O Jerusalem, that bringest good tidings, lift up thy voice with strength; lift it up, be not afraid; say unto the cities of Judah, Behold your God!
(10) Behold, the Lord GOD will come with strong hand, and his arm shall rule for him: behold, his reward is with him, and his work before him.

The foundation of John being the forerunner of the Messiah was laid, and yet today we are examining the prophesy of the Old Testament in correlation with superiority and faith. What I said yesterday and then reading this passage makes Israel looking like they have a superiority complex and this is not true. One thing for sure and two things for certain faith is the dividing point between superior law. The laws of God coming to man only makes one realize the simplicity of faith. Everyone thinks their way is better but God’s way out trumpets man’s ways every time. God preparation to receive the reality of God and then the reality of Christ. John the Baptiat fully came to prepare the people to receive their Messiah. Yet the first instruction to the Gentiles must come with the knowledge of who God is. John Baptism was introduction to God to both Jews and Gentile descendants. There were those who would receive the simple teaching in the wilderness, to the strict hardline teaching of the Pharisees in the temple. Almost the difference between a more liberal and very fundamental view of faith. Ideology in once going back before the law of God. Before the Old Testament. Going to the time of Noah and Abraham where laws were not restrictive beyond the Spirit. And the law of God only etched in the hearts and obedience to God equaled faith.

The simplicity of Christ teaching still taught the value of faith and rules to live by, yet it is God foundation and his reality that must be present to receive the way of Christ. John began laying a foundation of faith in God by preaching the kingdom of God was at hand, turning the hearts of man by the wooing/calling of the Holy Spirit to all that would hear.

If one only looks at it as religious rite then one loose faith factor and convincing by the Holy Spirit. The imitation of the Spirit of God is proven by disproving the acts of witchery and receiving only God given evidence that can not be disproved. Evidence of faith from surviving my wreck should be enough, but with scientific means to disprove a miracle healing from a disease, does not mean God did not heal. It only means there evidence that something might of caused the problem. The power of the resurrection of Christ showing truly the power of God to overcome death on the third day, means that their was no scientific way for him to be alive. Even unthawing man from a freezer in ice lab can not bring man back of yet. They continue to work on these issues. Yet faith requires no more evidence then the resurrection. For us many years after the resurrection God still provides signs and wonders as faith is applied from physical healing, to healing of relationships, to healing to finances sometimes, and so forth. It almost as if God wants to do the healing if we will only take the first step and trust him.

God wants to apply the cross to begin the first obstacle of unworthiness to receive God’s blessings because of no faith. Applying that you believe Christ died for your sins and the ability to receive forgiveness makes you worthy of all God has to offer you. Yet becoming worthy to receive should not be why you believe. For to be worthy has nothing to do with receiving God’s blessings it only something that follows faith.

If Israel only can receive God and his law and not the promise beyond the law of salvation through Christ Jesus something that is spiritual then all they have is a physical law of choice and nothing more. Israel was a child of Abraham who through faith received not the promise of dead works but the promise of eternal life, through faith and repentance.

The law John the Baptist was trying to reestablish had to do with the law of faith not the legal system of Israel. Jesus did away with the law of legalism, and established the law of faith. The law of walking on water and not drowning because of keeping focus on Jesus as Peter did after sinking first. God preparing his people through the forerunner of Christ. God preparing his people through ministers and things seen with the eye to believe first in God and then in Christ Jesus.

Dear Heavenly Father prepare the hearts of those reading to understand the simple truth of preparation to know Jesus. The preparation not by legalism but by faith. Bring healing to the heart and lives of knew believers so that their faith will be strengthen. In Jesus precious name, Amen.
