Every Sunday A Psalms: The Power Of The Tongue
12/06/2015

Daily Devotions: by Christina Farris

Psalms 64:1-10 KJV
(1) To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David. Hear my voice, O God, in my prayer: preserve my life from fear of the enemy.
(2) Hide me from the secret counsel of the wicked; from the insurrection of the workers of iniquity:
(3) Who whet their tongue like a sword, and bend their bows to shoot their arrows, even bitter words:
(4) That they may shoot in secret at the perfect: suddenly do they shoot at him, and fear not.

(5) They encourage themselves in an evil matter: they commune of laying snares privily; they say, Who shall see them?
(6) They search out iniquities; they accomplish a diligent search: both the inward thought of every one of them, and the heart, is deep.
(7) But God shall shoot at them with an arrow; suddenly shall they be wounded.
(8) So they shall make their own tongue to fall upon themselves: all that see them shall flee away.
(9) And all men shall fear, and shall declare the work of God; for they shall wisely consider of his doing.
(10) The righteous shall be glad in the LORD, and shall trust in him; and all the upright in heart shall glory.

The guilt of falsely using your tongue can and will destroy you. If anyone wants to know about the power of the tongue put toothpaste on a baseball bat and then try and put the toothpaste back in the tube. The simple fact it can not be done without at the medium a toothpick. However it going to take a long time to do it. Point is words hurt especially if they are lies and slander. It is the words of truth that can maim as well if it shows are failings. The failing of our tongues can be pierced with the Word of God. The sword of the Spirit being sharper and more accurate then your own words. If I type each morning and forget to pray, no words will come. Some people say it only talent that allows you to write and I will declare no I type praying for God to fill my finger tips with his words and on more then one occasion my finger tips get the best of me and I try to take control and type what I like to say. In truth as much as anyone wants to do something God’s way whether it be to speak and to prophesy for the Lord, or just generally opening the mouth for everyday use. If you ask God for help with your tongue, his word is going to pierce it a few dozen times before you get the hint don’t do that again.

Human nature is to think before we speak or speak knowing what we are saying in revengeful hurtful manner. It is when we no longer have the power to speak truth we need to learn to be silent. If silent we need to speak truth and speak what God desires us to say. God will not allow you to speak beyond His will. Many false prophets have tried and fail starting with the prophet Balaam, who desire to do it his way and had a donkey stop him. Moses learned and was a prophet of God but learned by doing it his way it cost him entry into the promise land.

What are we failing at in regards of speaking, but to find ourselves on our knees with God’s correction of his sword of his mouth his tongue speaking to our hearts his words of fruit and grace. That we learn to demonstrate more love in our words then we think possible. There times to take action in correcting and time to take action only in love. War is action of correction if used correctly, and only love and peace is an action of hoping things will change. God uses his voice to correct and to bring judgment and love. Love can be judgment if it keeps you out of hell and earthly torment. Think long and hard about God’s correction. Sometimes it is a necessary evil.

Dear Heavenly Father give us the grace we need to use our tongues correctly, may you correct our tongues and our ways. Bring only judgment when simple correction just does not work. In Jesus precious name, Amen.
