The Root of Jesse
12/04/2015

Daily Devotions: by Christina Farris

Isaiah 11:1-10 KJV (1) And there shall come forth a rod out of the stem of Jesse, and a Branch shall grow out of his roots:
(2) And the spirit of the LORD shall rest upon him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD;
(3) And shall make him of quick understanding in the fear of the LORD: and he shall not judge after the sight of his eyes, neither reprove after the hearing of his ears:
(4) But with righteousness shall he judge the poor, and reprove with equity for the meek of the earth: and he shall smite the earth with the rod of his mouth, and with the breath of his lips shall he slay the wicked.
(5) And righteousness shall be the girdle of his loins, and faithfulness the girdle of his reins.
(6) The wolf also shall dwell with the lamb, and the leopard shall lie down with the kid; and the calf and the young lion and the fatling together; and a little child shall lead them.
(7) And the cow and the bear shall feed; their young ones shall lie down together: and the lion shall eat straw like the ox.
(8) And the sucking child shall play on the hole of the asp, and the weaned child shall put his hand on the cockatrice' den.
(9) They shall not hurt nor destroy in all my holy mountain: for the earth shall be full of the knowledge of the LORD, as the waters cover the sea.
(10) And in that day there shall be a root of Jesse, which shall stand for an ensign of the people; to it shall the Gentiles seek: and his rest shall be glorious.

I like to think of God’s people no matter how many times you cut at the family tree of God’s people even down to the roots buried beneath the dirt, God’s people still spring forth. Sometimes it is only the root and sometimes it is a sprig from the root that is growing, but life is still there. Josiah day the law of God was found in the temple when it was being cleaned and repaired. The word spoke to the king when it was read and he and others repented of sin. The root coming alive that once was dead in the annuals of the kings. Only a woman prophetess could be found to teach Josiah. It is the repentance where up from the roots of faith can one grow not just from the seeds planted in unknown soil. So at the time of Christ would be a root or group of people called not only to repentance, but to stretch their ability to believe and have faith in God through Christ coming. It would be at a time when the wolf laid down with the lamb and leopard and a kid. Meaning people from all races and religion would be together at the time of the Messiah. A time of peace it seems of all groups of people.

Why might ask why did the Messiah come at a time of peace. Christ himself said he came to cause division. Christ came to teach to speak to the poor, rich and all groups of people. Christ did that in his day through parables that judge the heart and soul of man Christ causing division was causing people to get real with God and their life style. There choice of tolerance and equality with others despite their faith called them to be separate.

After this last shooting in California one wonders if peace between radicals can happen. Yet there no proof yet to say it was not a radical in operation in a silent cell. Those cell groups that are not suppose to exist. Christ came peaceful, not with weapons of war but with the sword of the mouth. He came not to fight with weapons but with the Spirit of God that penetrates the heart. Al Quaeda is not fighting with weapons of peace but weapons of war. Yet our government wants to control guns because of the enemy and they have proven they can make pipe bombs. How smart is this. Let’s get rid of fertilizer and all chemical that can become weapons of war as well. Let not stop at the guns.

I am not for gun control in one since for I grew up with hunters and sportsmen. Yet the use of guns for purpose of killing in mass destruction only makes human the target. Christ weapon of war only was to convict the heart. The conviction of the heart separated the one accepting truth and the one turning away. This kind of division is individual, not meant to cause problems in the market square among trades men, only religious mean and woman in opposition to the truth of God’s word. That still individual choice. Yet because Jesus was able to stir up a crowd and gather people because of miracles and teaching. He became an enemy of the religious and legal rule. Yet only did the legal rule have a problem when the religious leaders claimed he said Jesus claimed he was a king.

True Christianity was not battles of war of the flesh, but wars of the spiritual kind. Yet these type of wars can be seen physically in the life of the believer by the trading of bad behavior to good behavior. Yet Christ was more then just a judge but a healer of the human spirit. He took away sin through forgive and the cross. He gave people a second and seventy times seven chances for change.

The priest would get angry because it was cutting into their pocketbook. The crowd instead of entering the temple would follow Jesus instead. The money no doubt when given collected by Judas Iscariot. Yet Jesus ministry was not about profit and greed, but doing the will of God and caring for the crowd when hungry and the feeding the soul. The priest understood the capabilities of the crowd so much they manipulated used it to cry crucify.

Simple fact is we need to look deeper into those who plot to kill innocent is it only war cry, or is it mental illness of desire for control of others. Jesus was never said to demand people to listen, they seem to naturally flock to him. The instruction for going to a house and someone refusing to hear was just to shake the dust off and go on. Not to worry about it. People that mean harm are not pacifist. Samson was not a pacifist but a warrior, not until later in life did he become a hero to Israel and devil to the enemy.

God’s word penetrates the heart and soul of man and despite when a man or woman dies that judgment is set in place by his choice in life. Christ came teaching and preaching the gospel. Preaching the judgments and blessing of God. Yet he was nailed to a tree. The world hate Jesus because they love evil. Isaiah prophecy was Old Testament many years before Christ coming. It speaks of the time in which Christ came.

Dear Heavenly Father may you speak to the hearts and mind of people through your word and may your spirit convict the heart of man to know Christ came in peace and love and not with weapons of destruction that cause physical harm. In Jesus precious name, Amen.
