Foresaken Of Both Her Kings
12/02/2015

Daily Devotions: by Christina Farris

Isaiah 7:10-19 KJV
(10) Moreover the LORD spake again unto Ahaz, saying,
(11) Ask thee a sign of the LORD thy God; ask it either in the depth, or in the height above.
(12) But Ahaz said, I will not ask, neither will I tempt the LORD.
(13) And he said, Hear ye now, O house of David; Is it a small thing for you to weary men, but will ye weary my God also?
(14) Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.
(15) Butter and honey shall he eat, that he may know to refuse the evil, and choose the good.
(16) For before the child shall know to refuse the evil, and choose the good, the land that thou abhorrest shall be forsaken of both her kings.
(17) The LORD shall bring upon thee, and upon thy people, and upon thy father's house, days that have not come, from the day that Ephraim departed from Judah; even the king of Assyria.
(18) And it shall come to pass in that day, that the LORD shall hiss for the fly that is in the uttermost part of the rivers of Egypt, and for the bee that is in the land of Assyria.
(19) And they shall come, and shall rest all of them in the desolate valleys, and in the holes of the rocks, and upon all thorns, and upon all bushes.

Time of the prophesy of the coming Messiah to Ahaz points out the time would be when both Israel and Judah had no king on the throne. The divide kingdom would not be controlled by Israel children, vs. 16 of chapter 7 in Isaiah. However what we do know is that a child would be born named Immanuel and by born by a virgin. The promise of the virgin birth established in one prophesy and resounded at the time of the calling of Mary and Joseph to be future parents of Jesus. The ideal of virgin having a baby was impossible. Yet God was saying this will be the sign to the people of that day and age. It was a time of peace and a time to which Israel and Judah as well as the gentiles could listen to the truth of the Messiah without fear.

Roman empire was in power. Yet Roman because of its beliefs of many deities, had no issue with Jews having a baby that was the Son of God. Only concern would be the virgin birth. Rome life style was far from Jewish faith, but they allowed the Jews to be Jews under their government with their Roman leaders being Roman and their soldiers even coming to the man they called Jesus for answers and miracles.

Prophesy was key here that would tell the truth of future event. Yet Ahaz felt he was tempting God though God had offer Ahaz a sign. If God offers you something you better take it. It maybe the only proof to identify the event. Yet Ahaz refused the gift though it was still given. Christ died for you and me the gift given yet it is not received by all in the world for payment for sin. The prophesy of Christ coming very real, and his death prophesied and yet not all would receive it and believe in the prophesy of his resurrection. There is a grave in Jerusalem that claims to be Jesus tomb with his bones. It is the place where Christ was buried. Christ would have been buried outside of Jerusalem, because he was crucified for sin. Everything is back able by scripture but not all receive it and instead believe the lie, because they believe Jesus was at the least a good man.

Who do you say Jesus is. His mother Mary meet the requirements of being a virgin. His earthly dad was a man who obeyed the voice and vision God provided for Him. What do you believe? Do you believe Immanuel was Jesus? This month we begin our look at prophesy once more as well as the Christmas story. I hope you enjoy and get a deeper of understanding of the prophesy of scripture.

Dear Heavenly Father thank you for the prophesy of the virgin birth. Help us to grasp the time table of when Christ child would come was clear. In Jesus precious name, Amen.
