Be Busy

Daily Devotions: by Christina Farris

Matthew 24:42-51 KJV
(42) Watch therefore: for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come.
(43) But know this, that if the goodman of the house had known in what watch the thief would come, he would have watched, and would not have suffered his house to be broken up.
(44) Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh.
(45) Who then is a faithful and wise servant, whom his lord hath made ruler over his household, to give them meat in due season?
(46) Blessed is that servant, whom his lord when he cometh shall find so doing.
(47) Verily I say unto you, That he shall make him ruler over all his goods.
(48) But and if that evil servant shall say in his heart, My lord delayeth his coming;
(49) And shall begin to smite his fellowservants, and to eat and drink with the drunken;
(50) The lord of that servant shall come in a day when he looketh not for him, and in an hour that he is not aware of,
(51) And shall cut him asunder, and appoint him his portion with the hypocrites: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

Depression is the worse thing one can go through. It is being in place you trying to figure how to recover from only to feel life slipping away with no return. There is a reason that even through depression staying busy is helpful, though time of grief or sorrow sometimes time alone is needed. It is the idleness of depression through hardship is on a road of no recourse, but to fight for survival. The best thing anyone can do is be busy. I once came home with a diagnosis of no cure and no treatment for the illness though they had a name for it. With that name came very little knowledge of anything I could do to treat it. Yet my only solution was to force myself out of bed and keep going. Making lunch every day for my husband and finding other things to do. Even in illness I found staying busy more fruitful then not. To hear the words you might live three years or you might die tomorrow sounds like a death sentence, but in reality no one knows the hour of Godís calling one home. Over twenty-one years later I do not see myself as survivor as much as one learning to allow God to beat the odds in oneís life. There are storms in life one can not fight it has to be the work of God to take care of tomorrow on earth. Then some things man can do to change in the since of what they do with what they have. One thing mankind can do is stay busy until the appearing of Godís Holy Son in incorruptible flesh. Stay busy being on guard because one knows not the hour of death.

Watch online an old man knitting on a loom in a nursing home, makes me remember the importance of staying busy. However I happen to think to be in nursing care would I really want to have to concentrate on doing handwork. Idleness is not next to godliness. However knowing oneís own limitation and memory call would be necessary at the age of eighty or up. To remember how to use a needle or a loom at eight would be a blessing of the Lord.

God tells us to be busy and not to be idle because there is a lot in this old world to do. Much to care about, must to help and build up for Godís kingdom. Yet if we still beyond a vacation, one loose the hope we truly need daily of His coming. Our idleness makes us forget the warnings of idleness. The warnings of not using what God gives each of us. Not staying busy until it is our time. Gardening seems like busy work, when one think how convenient things are in the store. Yet is productive to see things grow and to see the smiling face of those receiving fresh things from a garden even if it your own or a friend. Yet gardening can be fruitful if it is something you need as well. The art of old ways are dying, yet it something everyone needs to know for survival in hard times, yet water could be an issue as well. Farming communities the life style of growing and producing is second nature, but large cities and towns it is almost forgotten by the majority. Think for a moment if everyone had one plant, or one tree to attend too. How much oxygen would be put back into our air. God called us to also take care of our environment, our homes, our place of work and each other. Yet do we do these things with the compassion of Godís love? Old in a nursing home does not mean you can not smile, you can laugh or make friends. It only means that tomorrow those you sat beside might not be there.

Those that are young say why talk of nursing home, let talk of beach vacations, and latest fad, or concert. Never grasping that idle time is spent only to grow close to those you are with to make memories. Yet working everyday gives purpose of being able to do those things one enjoys. Yet for the believer it away of staying busy until the Lord comes. The believers mindset on the things above while walking, working and vacationing on the part of the earth they live in. All the while, watching, waiting and listening for the trumpets and great entrance to the Lord coming on cloud. Never loosing home or focus, by doing the Lordís bidding on earth by staying busy. Stay busy and keep alert for Godís coming, donít be idle for Christ will return.

Dear Heavenly Father keep us busy til the return of your Son, whether old or young give us purpose to strive daily knowing your Son is returning. In Jesus precious name, Amen.
