What Are You Doing With What You Have Been Given

Daily Devotions: by Christina Farris

Matthew 25:14-30 KJV
(14) For the kingdom of heaven is as a man travelling into a far country, who called his own servants, and delivered unto them his goods.
(15) And unto one he gave five talents, to another two, and to another one; to every man according to his several ability; and straightway took his journey.
(16) Then he that had received the five talents went and traded with the same, and made them other five talents.
(17) And likewise he that had received two, he also gained other two.
(18) But he that had received one went and digged in the earth, and hid his lord's money.
(19) After a long time the lord of those servants cometh, and reckoneth with them.
(20) And so he that had received five talents came and brought other five talents, saying, Lord, thou deliveredst unto me five talents: behold, I have gained beside them five talents more.
(21) His lord said unto him, Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.
(22) He also that had received two talents came and said, Lord, thou deliveredst unto me two talents: behold, I have gained two other talents beside them.
(23) His lord said unto him, Well done, good and faithful servant; thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.
(24) Then he which had received the one talent came and said, Lord, I knew thee that thou art an hard man, reaping where thou hast not sown, and gathering where thou hast not strawed:
(25) And I was afraid, and went and hid thy talent in the earth: lo, there thou hast that is thine.
(26) His lord answered and said unto him, Thou wicked and slothful servant, thou knewest that I reap where I sowed not, and gather where I have not strawed:
(27) Thou oughtest therefore to have put my money to the exchangers, and then at my coming I should have received mine own with usury.
(28) Take therefore the talent from him, and give it unto him which hath ten talents.
(29) For unto every one that hath shall be given, and he shall have abundance: but from him that hath not shall be taken away even that which he hath.
(30) And cast ye the unprofitable servant into outer darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

One can not talk about prosperity when it comes to God without talking about talents. Talents in this story is money. What are you doing with your money. Hopefully most are at least paying their bills, but what else are you doing with their money. It takes years to earn money to be able to do exactly all the things one would like to do. Yet let say someone offered you money to be used because they seen your hard work. Let say your hard work gave you more money from this one rich person, then he gave to another who was equality as hard working but maybe just not as responsible as you are. Then you watch and the wealthy man gives you a few bucks to someone and told him to go and do what you can with it. Well you invest it in a great business deal, your friend took his and doubled it and the one with the least took his money and buried it because he afraid he loose it before he could give it back.

The rich man gave to all three for a purpose, to help them prosper. It was not given to be hidden but to help them improve their own income. The one that gain ten x more of the money he was given, really did far more then expect. The one that only doubled had done his best, but maybe could of done better and the one that hide it, care nothing for what the rich man had done for him. He only wanted to get rid of the burden he had hidden. When given the opportunity to prosper one must consider who had helped you to do so. They are watching to see if you took what was given to see if they would invest again.

God is giving the believer in Christ spiritual gifts from the Holy Spirit. These talents are not to be hidden but used by His power and might and not our own. Yet God is watching us use what He has given. He watching us love, forgive, hope, long suffering, gentleness, kindness and so forth. He giving us prosperity in spiritual matters, only because we are willing to use what God provides for us to use. He watching those the fruit influences.

Will your fruit multiply by going forth in praise and song only, or must you love and forgive more then you ever thought possible. God is not going to bless you with a large ministry unless you handled a little one first. God not going to increase your business, until you use what he got and have increased. God not going to increase your relationships with others until you worked out those issues with others.

God does not want you to bury your talent, but to increase and prosper in His ways. He wants to increase you not by weight, but in work both spiritual and non spiritual things. No matter how you prosper it is a reflection on God the Father. However to bury to hide is not using what God has given you.

What are you will to allow God to change and increase your ability to go beyond the call of duty. Gideon had strong fighting men, but God used the least ready to fight. Yet God increased Gideonís faith to trust Him at His word. He would increase in victory.

Dear Heavenly Father help us to use your talents that you give us. Let us not sit idly by but to use what you have provided us with. In Jesus precious name, Amen.

Continual Scripture Study for Devotion:Matthew 24:45-51 KJV
(45) Who then is a faithful and wise servant, whom his lord hath made ruler over his household, to give them meat in due season?
(46) Blessed is that servant, whom his lord when he cometh shall find so doing.
(47) Verily I say unto you, That he shall make him ruler over all his goods.
(48) But and if that evil servant shall say in his heart, My lord delayeth his coming;
(49) And shall begin to smite his fellowservants, and to eat and drink with the drunken;
(50) The lord of that servant shall come in a day when he looketh not for him, and in an hour that he is not aware of,
(51) And shall cut him asunder, and appoint him his portion with the hypocrites: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
