John 19:25-27 KJV
(25) Now there stood by the cross of Jesus his mother, and his mother's sister, Mary the wife of Cleophas, and Mary Magdalene.
(26) When Jesus therefore saw his mother, and the disciple standing by, whom he loved, he saith unto his mother, Woman, behold thy son!
(27) Then saith he to the disciple, Behold thy mother! And from that hour that disciple took her unto his own home.

Setting here wondering this morning if I need to go look through old issues of going through passion week. This year I either did not start soon enough or simply it was done in Bible study passed going down the road of the agony on the cross. What is interesting is John does not mention the earthquake or the veil in the temple being ripped. Yet what is clear even in Christ agony He is still think of those around him. One might ask is this possible in the amount of pain Jesus would of been in at the point of the cross. Besides the obvious position Jesus was in that would have been causing pain and a feeling of suffocation He hung, pushing up with is feet to try and breath and dealing with the loss of blood from the agony of the beating he received and the pain of the nail driven in his hands/wrist area, human shock factor perhaps would of kicked in., Shock and trauma effect of not mentally dealing with what is happening to the body. If I compared my pain from my accident to Christ, I might of been in has much pain, but my body was not as torn up. If I think of my anemia, the loss of blood and weakness, the physical strength possible only to a point. Yet there people who have experienced more at one time and survived to tell it. Yet it was the combination of loss of blood, pain and his suffering that caused his death. Comparing my pain or someone else’s trauma to the cross is not meant to be little the work of cross but to give a realist view of how others might look at Christ suffering. At some point the human factor of shock and trauma would of kicked in, yet the pain would have been very real. Christ had the pain in his body, but also the pain of his heart knowing what He was doing on the cross was to take away the sins of the world. Yet even in his hour of need, he began to talk to his mother and his disciples close by. He tells them to take care of each other. Never once until He says He thirst do we see Christ thinking of himself. Christ went to the cross thinking of us. Thinking of those around him. Thinking beyond his physical pain to still minister to those around him.

The question is when you are going through a trial can you still minister to someone else. When you going through emotional and physical trauma to your body can you think of someone else or are you so concentrated on your issue to be able to minister to someone else. One might talk to their family and loved ones under the sedation of drugs or no drugs, but until they realize Christ was thinking of the world on the cross. Because He died for all, not just one. He went there as a sheep to the slaughter. He went as the pagan people had sent their own children to the fire pit. Some prepared for the purpose of being a sacrifice, yet not one child was the perfect sacrifice for sin. Nothing redeemed the sinner has Christ did for eternity upon belief.

Christ did not go as pagan child to slaughter, but as person that defies the law of man., the legalistic religious law, because He claimed equality with God. His claim not believed by religious people until after the cross and resurrection. Yet some still did not believe, because their hearts were harden to the truth. Christ would face the cross as freedom fighter against those things that killed the soul. He would face the pit of hell to free the captives from punishment for sin. Christ took the punishment for sin eternal on the cross. God still will chasten the believer. The point is simple Christ crucified, thinking beyond his suffering for you and me. Thinking beyond the suffering to his disciples both men and women. Caring for his own mother in his own hour of need. Consider this Good Friday that Christ suffering though it might be able to be compared to suffering of others, it is the only suffering that took away the sins of the world. Took on the weight of the world by coming to the world from His throne, to demonstrate the reality of His Father through the healing power by his name, by the authority given to Him from heaven to silence even the storms. Christ came to demonstrate the power of God through faith. People are loosing the hope found in Christ do to the study of other cultures. One needs to look further at the purpose of the cross of Jesus for that reason.

Dear Heavenly Father thank you for the cross of Jesus, who demonstrated for us not only how to live, but how to die. He demonstrated his power of healing and silencing the storms of who He truly was and is. He demonstrated his power once more through the resurrection. Let us not forget Jesus died for the world transgressions. In Jesus precious name. Amen.
