Good Work In You
09/15/2022

Daily Devotions:
by Christina Farris

Philippians 1:5-6 KJV
5 For your fellowship in the gospel from the first day until now;
6 Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ:

One thing is important if God has begun to work in your life, we need that confidence he will complete his work in you until the day of Christ return, or heavenward. Paul wrote the Philipian church as if he would see the coming of Christ. That he would be upon the earth and not his Spirit absents from his body. Yet Paul knew not the day of redemption for one soul. Whether it be heaven or the day of Christ returns.

Can we trust God to do the work he aims to do in our life. To enable us to perform his will in our life? David praised the Lord even among the heathens. Yet the last verse David recognized God would perfect a work in his life. Old Testament meeting New Testament? No a part faith we take on our journey. That upon faith God is going to began to work things in our life for his good, but also our good. Not something easily understood, if we not fully trusting, or standing on God's promises in our life. To rest our hope for God to move in our life to do a good work will takes time. King David started as a shepherd boy and became a king, and one truly anointed by God.

As a child is born a mother and father look into the sweet face of the new infant in hopes of what the baby furture might be. Never truly knowing what will become of the child born to them. In sweet hopes of a good future. When a person is born of God's Spirit through faith in Christ Jesus. One has received Christ as Lord, and God is now looking at you has his child by faith in Christ Jesus. You are born of his Spirit, washed and cleansed by the blood of Jesus and purged from sin, and now shining with hope of God in the world in which you live in. Just like a new babe is born and cleanse, so you are spiritually. This is the beginning of the spiritual journey of faith. It is the part that comes with newness of life by Christ Jesus.

God begin not just with the cleansing of the heart, but making a new creation out of you, that will be in the reflection/shadowing of his Son. If you remember what I said about shadowing, how the shadow of a doctor learns from other doctors. Now as a believer you will shadow the image of Christ. Following in his example and teaching in the Gospel, but also throughout scripture. If we understand that King David is not the one we emulate but it is a story of his struggle with faith and the hope he had, we can understand that our own struggles are normal, that their times when God desiring us to go one way, and we fighting and wrestling over the situation is truly part of the human struggle of faith. Our Spirit might say yes Lord, but our common sense says no way God can do it that way. That when we need to back off and trust in God.

Moses hit a rock and water came out. He messed up by hitting it twice and he would not get the reward of living in the promise land with Israelites because of sin. The land of milk and honey became not his reward of his duty, but of his disobedience, but it did not keep him from his eternal home, but part of the preparation for the journey ahead. One might ask would you perfer to not to live in the place of promise after struggle so long with people of disobedience and absence of faith. Turning his punishment perhaps into a blessing.

We might struggle, but our stength will come from God, our weakness is faith is going to be overcome by our obedience to God in difficult situations. He not going to abandon us but strength us with his love. Are you prepared for God's grace to change your life. Are you willing to go through doors he opens for you and obey him, even when common sense says do it another way.

Faith must be strength by the one that created it. I work on a project, and I realize it needs a brace or two. If I do not put the brace in the project then it going to be flimsy or unbalanced. God knows how to balance us, to increase our faith, and to move us forward in faith. We must rely on God to do it. Meanwhile we do what we know to do, by following in the pathway already set before us by Jesus.

Dear Heavenly Father, do the work you desire in our life, til our call home to be with our Lord, or his return. Which ever comes first will be the time of our greatest step of faith. Knowing you have promised to start a good work in us. In Jesus precious name, Amen.

Continual Scripture Study: Psalm 138:1-8 KJV
1 A Psalm of David. I will praise thee with my whole heart: before the gods will I sing praise unto thee.
2 I will worship toward thy holy temple, and praise thy name for thy lovingkindness and for thy truth: for thou hast magnified thy word above all thy name.
3 In the day when I cried thou answeredst me, and strengthenedst me with strength in my soul.
4 All the kings of the earth shall praise thee, O LORD, when they hear the words of thy mouth.
5 Yea, they shall sing in the ways of the LORD: for great is the glory of the LORD.
6 Though the LORD be high, yet hath he respect unto the lowly: but the proud he knoweth afar off.
7 Though I walk in the midst of trouble, thou wilt revive me: thou shalt stretch forth thine hand against the wrath of mine enemies, and thy right hand shall save me.
8 The LORD will perfect that which concerneth me: thy mercy, O LORD, endureth for ever: forsake not the works of thine own hands.
