Focus On Christ And Sin Not 10/14/2022
Daily Devotions: by Christina FarrisColossians 3:1-17 KJV
1 If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God.
2 Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.
3 For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God.
4 When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory.
5 Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry:
6 For which things' sake the wrath of God cometh on the children of disobedience:
7 In the which ye also walked some time, when ye lived in them.
8 But now ye also put off all these; anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy communication out of your mouth.
9 Lie not one to another, seeing that ye have put off the old man with his deeds;
10 And have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him:
11 Where there is neither Greek nor Jew, circumcision nor uncircumcision, Barbarian, Scythian, bond nor free: but Christ is all, and in all.
12 Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering;
13 Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye.
14 And above all these things put on charity, which is the bond of perfectness.
15 And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful.
16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.
17 And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.
Storms that effect our life is ones maybe not of our own making but effects us to make storm in our own life. The effect one storm causing the first storm. Storms not of our choosing but storms of our reaction, our anger, our malice, our wrath, blasphemy(hopefully not), filthy communication right out of one's mouth. That storm of words that is truly not you, but you revert to an early time in your life to shut people up that understand you not. Do not consider yourself perfect, but a person working toward perfection in Christ. Meaning we all sin and all fall short of the glory of God. The storms the make us ashamed of our own reactions our own lack of focus on God and not the problem. The storm that causes a quarrel, fight or a debate. Nothing wrong with standing up for conviction of politics, legal law in lands where it not prohibited. It is not a crime to give a different answer then one expected, or reproof, but it is a sin to do in the form of malice, anger, cursing and so forth.
However was Paul so perfect that he sin not, or not worthy of giving these instruction to others as well as himself. Scripture never says Paul had a problem, but as a minister of faith writting the church and perhaps even remember his early days in the Priesthood of learning to behave in the manner of the Jewish priesthood, before his salvation, he was learning the discipline worthy of a child of God, a behave not of evil, but of discipline even when the world around wanted to destoy the discipline of a good role model. Sometimes my best role model is my husband at times, and at times not. And I am his best role model at time and other times not. We see each other in all our humanity and know when it just a matter of time of just allowing the situation to cease, or to come to terms of this is how it will be done from either of us.
What am I saying if you bring up a child upright he never say those words he seen written on the bathroom wall, or heard men on a building site say without regards to who around them when they hit their thumb with a hammer or worse, falling off the roof. The first reaction to bad news no matter the location matters not. The cursing after a mine collapse or death of a person in a car wreck. Shock or literally disbelief with reaction not controlled. All that discipline right out the window of the laws and how to keep one's reaction in check. We all deal with emotion, yet Paul writes of keeping one's sight on Christ. To keep focus on Christ, that we not of this world but hid in Christ. So hid in Christ our discipline our very thoughts that they become godly in all situations. To be able to say God's will is mine for the moment in time. Some of us never get there. A shock in disaster is one of life challenges of keeping our reaction in check to be Christ like. To be so hid in Christ our response is not of this world but of Christ in us, his hope and his glory. Our response in times of disagreement being such that peace is frustrating to the opposition of Christ will.
to the other person. To be so intune to Christ we are in his will even in times of discourse with the action of peace.
Paul is reminding people of our actions being a part of our witness of Christ in us. Also reminding us in the storms of our life we must stay focus on Christ and if not in a storm our focus and mindset still needs to be on Christ. Hymns of thanksgiving flowing and prayers being made known to Christ and God the Father. To be so enriched in God's love. Paul goes on to say something else to be able to forgive each other as Christ forgave us. Though Paul is not talk about necessarily a storm, that where in many old time believers you see the reactions really being effected. It not always in the day to day living devil has its way with a believer, it often in the storms of either our own making or the making the enemy. It is because our focus is not on Christ where we need to be hanging tight too in order not to slip and fall. Have you ever seen a beginner skater that could not let go because of fear of falling. We need to be so intuned in our faith that we are in fear of God who will see us falling from the will of his design for our life. Do not be afraid of the fall, be afraid of the one that picking you back up after the fall. Be in awe of the one that picking you up that forgiving you in times of failure and even backslidding. Be in awe of the one that allows you to fall to remind you, of your imperfection. Be in awe of the one that reminds you of his grace upon repentance. Let us not hold to the bad things in our life, but press forward in the beauty of God's perfection. His knowledge of our failings, that is covered by his grace. Being in awe of God who pics you up despite your sin. Be in awe of God who says you covered by his Son. Be in awe of the Prince of Peace who said Father forgive them on the cross. A discipline witness of faith beyond measure.
When our focus changes on God's grace in our life the reaction of bad timing, reaction of the storm goes away, because his grace allows us to see our place of improvement in our life not our weakness, but a place to not remain in. To improve to move forward in the discipline of our faith. Paul may of been Jewish by birth and discipline growing up in the Jewish faith, but he knew as a believer in Christ that the Gentiles needed these teaching of faith too. These instruction important to new believers. For them to know that every mistake was not beyond correction, but correction was for reproof and gaining understanding of that discipline of Christ in one's life. What I talking about is individual choice to be so discipline in one's life. You can not force anyone to look to Christ, to look to the word of God in all situations. It is almost something the Holy Spirit is the only one that can teach a person to do it. Our techno age allows people to go and use a search engine for anything struggling with scripturally or in their personal life they like to look up. Of course you need the know Biblical words for it for the translation you are using. Need good understanding of your problem to look things up. It must better when the Holy Spirit targets your heart not your head. Wisdom is not always the intellected of correction. Correction needs to penetrate the heart and through the marrow of even the bones of our body, a representation of our very soul. If we want change it as to hit the soul and not just the mind of intellect.
When is word is performed in your life allow it to be done in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. Let be done with the blessings of God being proclaimed to the world in which we live. For we are just workman of God's grace being performed in our life.
Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for seeing my failures, but also being the one to lift us up upon repentance of sin. To acknowledge our failings, but not the place you desire us to rest in. Help us Lord to be a testimony in the storms of life to look to you only. Knowing when we fail, you ready to help us to stand in your grace and your love. In Jesus precious name, Amen.
Press on in faith, knowing God is with you today. Don't let one mistake compromise your faith. That was not God's intent on lessons learned.
Continual Scripture Study: 2 Timothy 2:1-16 KJV
1 Thou therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus.
2 And the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also.
3 Thou therefore endure hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ.
4 No man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of this life; that he may please him who hath chosen him to be a soldier.
5 And if a man also strive for masteries, yet is he not crowned, except he strive lawfully.
6 The husbandman that laboureth must be first partaker of the fruits.
7 Consider what I say; and the Lord give thee understanding in all things.
8 Remember that Jesus Christ of the seed of David was raised from the dead according to my gospel:
9 Wherein I suffer trouble, as an evil doer, even unto bonds; but the word of God is not bound.
10 Therefore I endure all things for the elect's sakes, that they may also obtain the salvation which is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory.
11 It is a faithful saying: For if we be dead with him, we shall also live with him:
12 If we suffer, we shall also reign with him: if we deny him, he also will deny us:
13 If we believe not, yet he abideth faithful: he cannot deny himself.
14 Of these things put them in remembrance, charging them before the Lord that they strive not about words to no profit, but to the subverting of the hearers.
15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
16 But shun profane and vain babblings: for they will increase unto more ungodliness.
