Fire Of Judgment 10/01/2022
Daily Devotions: by Christina FarrisGenesis 19:11-30 KJV
11 And they smote the men that were at the door of the house with blindness, both small and great: so that they wearied themselves to find the door.
12 And the men said unto Lot, Hast thou here any besides? son in law, and thy sons, and thy daughters, and whatsoever thou hast in the city, bring them out of this place:
13 For we will destroy this place, because the cry of them is waxen great before the face of the LORD; and the LORD hath sent us to destroy it.
14 And Lot went out, and spake unto his sons in law, which married his daughters, and said, Up, get you out of this place; for the LORD will destroy this city. But he seemed as one that mocked unto his sons in law.
15 And when the morning arose, then the angels hastened Lot, saying, Arise, take thy wife, and thy two daughters, which are here; lest thou be consumed in the iniquity of the city.
16 And while he lingered, the men laid hold upon his hand, and upon the hand of his wife, and upon the hand of his two daughters; the LORD being merciful unto him: and they brought him forth, and set him without the city.
17 And it came to pass, when they had brought them forth abroad, that he said, Escape for thy life; look not behind thee, neither stay thou in all the plain; escape to the mountain, lest thou be consumed.
18 And Lot said unto them, Oh, not so, my Lord:
19 Behold now, thy servant hath found grace in thy sight, and thou hast magnified thy mercy, which thou hast shewed unto me in saving my life; and I cannot escape to the mountain, lest some evil take me, and I die:
20 Behold now, this city is near to flee unto, and it is a little one: Oh, let me escape thither, (is it not a little one?) and my soul shall live.
21 And he said unto him, See, I have accepted thee concerning this thing also, that I will not overthrow this city, for the which thou hast spoken.
22 Haste thee, escape thither; for I cannot do any thing till thou be come thither. Therefore the name of the city was called Zoar.
23 The sun was risen upon the earth when Lot entered into Zoar.
24 Then the LORD rained upon Sodom and upon Gomorrah brimstone and fire from the LORD out of heaven;
25 And he overthrew those cities, and all the plain, and all the inhabitants of the cities, and that which grew upon the ground.
26 But his wife looked back from behind him, and she became a pillar of salt.
27 And Abraham gat up early in the morning to the place where he stood before the LORD:
28 And he looked toward Sodom and Gomorrah, and toward all the land of the plain, and beheld, and, lo, the smoke of the country went up as the smoke of a furnace.
29 And it came to pass, when God destroyed the cities of the plain, that God remembered Abraham, and sent Lot out of the midst of the overthrow, when he overthrew the cities in the which Lot dwelt.
30 And Lot went up out of Zoar, and dwelt in the mountain, and his two daughters with him; for he feared to dwell in Zoar: and he dwelt in a cave, he and his two daughters.
The first fire storm came with an investigation, of two angels visiting Lot. God had visited Abraham and warned him of the fire to come. Abraham had asked about if there were any of his people there would he deliver them. Interesting thing about this is God did not enter the city with the two angels that been with the Lord at the time of Abraham visitation. (Genesis 18 story account available in your Bible). Second thing that is interesting is Lot's immediate invitation to give them a place to stay. Then the second thing was the towns attitude toward these two strangers that came into their village, they wanted to rape them. Then Lot offer's his daughters who are married. I think I always thought they just had boyfriends but no they were married and when leaving that village they had to foresake their husbands. Girls were betrayed by their father when he was about to send them out in the street, instead of the two strangers they requested. Angels/ministers blinded the men in the street by the power of God, so they could not harm them or Lot's daughters. Then Lot's daughters force to leave their husband's. Why would their husband's want to go with them when their dad just offered their wives, his daughters to their neighbors to be raped. He treated his daughters in my opinion with disrespect. Yet God protected them with the striking of the men to be blind. Second Lot had been willing to protect the strangers in his house. Who right who is wrong. Two wrongs never make a right, but in this case one wrong gave the household protection that night. The other wrong got first wave of punishment for a call to repent, but no revival broke out when the men were struck blind. (This paragrah is parapharased from Genesis 18 and 19 information so you can go and read both chapters in the Bible for full story, good for reproof).
The first fire of destruction came with warning from two angels to Lot. Told him to get out of Sodom and Gomorrah for God was going to destroy it. They told Lot and his family not to look back as they literally grabbed Lot's family and usher them out of the city. As the story goes Lot's wife out her disobedience look back and turned to a pillar of salt. When in a fire you can not look back, when in a fire you need to think get out. Lot was hesitant to obey. In truth most people may on their first reaction might just hesitate, yet instincts of getting out usually comes to better run. Yet the fire of destruction did not come until a little later when Lot and his family were outside it. Whatever God used in bringing about his wrath on the city, it was utterly destroyed because of the evil within the city.
I do not believe every disaster is the wrath of God but part of nature fury. Part of how God creates nature to provide and cleanse itself. However some disasters come with the wrath of God fully behind it. We can not understand it fully why God destroys some and not others that maybe equally as evil. What we know is God protects his own and if it time for his own to die, they are taken to be home with him. I know if God claims event like Sodom and Gomorrah as being his work when he destroys it, we need to ask for what purpose. Abraham would began to have many wives before the end of his life. This was my conclusion on Abraham life, he was one a man of faith that what made him righteous not always his actions. Yet he was always welcoming to hear from God. Lot was the same, he welcomes God's people and did not turn them away or cause them harm, he even protected them. It was not he was not a sinner, it was he had faith in God despite what he was able to see with his eyes. Meaning he saw his home and hesitated to leave not understanding the wrath that was to unfold on his city he lived in. Remember Lot's son and laws mocked him in response, probably because how he treated his daughters, but it was enough they would not be prompted to go too. Instead Lot turned away and angels ushered the rest of the family out.
God's wrath comes on those who welcome him not, and welcomes not his messengers. One of the first warning signs of a revival of destruction and not revival of faith is those who welcome not. One can understand reservation in this day and time, but one wonders about the fear of men in that day, and fear not to at least know who the men were before it was late at night. They came into the city gate where they were welcomed by a known member of the community and yet they were then threaten to have bodily harm come to them. Most people welcome people in. yet I learn over the years sometimes their are truly wolves in sheep clothing. Best thing one can do is remember social protocol and what does God's Spirit say to do. That is where faith begins by welcoming God into one's life. Welcoming the God of love, hope, peace and faith. We also welcome the God wrath in for our protection, hopefully that wrath is not directed at any of us.
Israel in the wilderness many times seen God's wrath unleashed on his people for disobedience. What we many wonder though why was God's wrath seen and not his love for Israel to pull them out of bondage and provide them with the land of milk and honey. The wilderness journey was a time of teaching who God was and is. God n the wilderness was trying to teach the people to seek him for their needs, and not to grumble and complain, but to submit to him and he would provide all they needed. In this story we see people of village not even getting to first base of welcoming the visitors and getting to know who they were in peace. Start with peace because God is a God of peace to all mankind not just a few chosen people.
Dear Heavenly Father, may we welcome your people of peace in our life and not only your messengers, but you into our life as well. In Jesus precious name, Amen.
Continual Scripture Study: Colossians 3:1-17 KJV
1 If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God.
2 Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.
3 For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God.
4 When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory.
5 Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry:
6 For which things' sake the wrath of God cometh on the children of disobedience:
7 In the which ye also walked some time, when ye lived in them.
8 But now ye also put off all these; anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy communication out of your mouth.
9 Lie not one to another, seeing that ye have put off the old man with his deeds;
10 And have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him:
11 Where there is neither Greek nor Jew, circumcision nor uncircumcision, Barbarian, Scythian, bond nor free: but Christ is all, and in all.
12 Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering;
13 Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye.
14 And above all these things put on charity, which is the bond of perfectness.
15 And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful.
16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.
17 And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.
