Occupation Gets Man In Trouble

Daily Devotions:
by Christina Farris

Genesis 4:1-5 KJV
1 And Adam knew Eve his wife; and she conceived, and bare Cain, and said, I have gotten a man from the LORD.
2 And she again bare his brother Abel. And Abel was a keeper of sheep, but Cain was a tiller of the ground.
3 And in process of time it came to pass, that Cain brought of the fruit of the ground an offering unto the LORD.
4 And Abel, he also brought of the firstlings of his flock and of the fat thereof. And the LORD had respect unto Abel and to his offering:
5 But unto Cain and to his offering he had not respect. And Cain was very wroth, and his countenance fell.

Here we think that that offering of Cain was not acceptible because it was of ground, but it more to do with the fact of Cain attitude before the Lord and then the gift given. There may of been some type of sacrifical law not presented here at the time of Cain's offering, but all offering and first fruit offerings were welcome to the Lord. There is a point, if we compare time of the law to the time of early man, we see two things the lamb exceptable offering since the beginning of time and the fruit or crop had a particular way it had to be given by the law in the land of promise. One the land Cain and Abel were in was not the land of promise, nor a land of hope beyond the lamb that would come to be the sacrifice for all man's sin. In fact the land Cain and Abel were own were cursed. Sacrificial Lamb always a sign and gift from God to man. Sacrifice of fruit during time of the law was to be presented to the Lord, but it would be used for the poor and widows of the land. Gift used differently then burnt offering on the altar. Did God's law change from Old Testament in Gensis to Leviticus in process of going to the Promise Land. No I think what occurred was a reminder to the people of what was knowledge of old to the people. The laws being reestablished as they are in our hearts and minds by the Holy Spirit. The importance of right sacrifice

I think Cain attitude was in question, but the sacrifice itself may of been the wrong sacrifice for what was suppose to be used. Where the physicial sacrifices of the Old Testament of the meat offerings and fruit sacrifice were still presented at the temple and probably even synagogues, we see something else occuring Jesus teaching dealt with the human heart and soul. Sacrifice dealt with the human heart. Cain was jealous of his brother's sacrifice because it pleased the Lord. A difference in gift to God or a gift to God used to help others. Most believers no trouble helping someone, it that sacrifice that given to the Lord, burnt up on an altar that seems like a waste of meat to some, but it was given to the Lord.

What my point, we give as God gives to the poor and the needy, we imitate the works of God and yet what do we offer to God. Even the heathen give to those in need. Where is the problem, God give us food we eat, watches over us, and reminds us we are his child if we believe. God then makes a peace offering of his Son for man for us to believe. Only then to write this laws back on the believers heart to love him and to love others as we would ourselves. The sacrifice to God being not giving up of our time and energy to minister to others, it is taking time to praise and honor him.

Have you ever spent time with love ones online and not felt appreciated for doing so, instead it becomes and endless tug of war in communication. You discover you want less conversation of that type in one's life, only to miss every second you can not spend with your love ones. Almost a type of homesickness, but at the same time you have moved on with life. The gift and sacrifice you given turning into a heated battle. How you think God feels when one only makes request of him and never saying I love you, praising him or honor him alone. A heated battle with God because of anger, resentment, and maybe even complaining about his seeming none work in one's life like Israel in the wilderness, yet God was using the complaining to teach them to come to him.

Mary sat at the feet of Jesus as Martha served the crowd. Martha becoming angry at Mary for not helping. When one takes time to worship God(Father, Son and HOly Spirit), God's Spirit heals our Spirit to be able to do more then we think possible. Worship is the healing balm of our faith because it is when we unite and connect not to build up God, but to allow him to know we recognize the work he does in our life, allowing him to heal our broken spirit, to minister to our mind, to clear our mind with truth. To heal our soul with his word, that we begin to no longer look at situation without hope, for tomorrow as promised because Jesus lives.

Cain seen his sacrifice of service as being greater then Abel. Yet God is looking at the sacrifice he going to give man of his Son, as being the lamb, but our hearts first have to be prepared to allow it. Cain heart was only knitted to the labor and fruit of not only his hands but the ground that was cursed. He gave not the sacrifice of praise but the sacrifice of giving. God wants our sacrifice of praise first, and sacrifice of time to worship of him first and foremost. It does not mean we do not give of our labor, but we give first to him through honoring him.

Many a days I talk/pray to God in my own way, knowing his healing balm is often the only thing I need to write. I do not always think of praise this way. because I often needing his healing balm of grace. Though he honor it I feel humbled this morning knowing my heavenly Father needs me to just worship him. It not that I do not know God's work as I type each morning, it about more of learning to just to be blessed by his presence in our life, to be just there, even without speaking sometimes. To just be still and know who God is.

All sacrifices must begin at the heart, but the labor of man was a gift from God given back in the form of sacrifice. Whatever caused Cain's sacrifice not to be exceptable to God it began at the heart. For Abel's sacrifice pleased God. Jesus was pleased with Mary desire to sit at his feet. It was okay she was not helping Martha because she had chosen the best part of being humble before the Lord.

Can you give a sacrifice of praise each day to the Lord. Do you only have time to serve and be about your own labor. Take a few moments, it doesn't have to be long and just Praise God. Just humble yourself before the Lord in praise and worship, knowing the great things he accomplish and will accomplish in your life. Remember you got to learn to ask of him when in need. God does supply. It how he supplies may not be our way of thinking.

Dear Heavenly Father we thank you and praise you for the labor of our hands that supply through begin career of animal husbandry and gardening. Help us to remember our sacrifice of our labor must begin with praise and worship in honor to you. In Jesus precious name, Amen.

Continual Scripture Study: Deuteronomy 26:1-12 KJV
1 And it shall be, when thou art come in unto the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee for an inheritance, and possessest it, and dwellest therein;
2 That thou shalt take of the first of all the fruit of the earth, which thou shalt bring of thy land that the LORD thy God giveth thee, and shalt put it in a basket, and shalt go unto the place which the LORD thy God shall choose to place his name there.
3 And thou shalt go unto the priest that shall be in those days, and say unto him, I profess this day unto the LORD thy God, that I am come unto the country which the LORD sware unto our fathers for to give us.
4 And the priest shall take the basket out of thine hand, and set it down before the altar of the LORD thy God.
5 And thou shalt speak and say before the LORD thy God, A Syrian ready to perish was my father, and he went down into Egypt, and sojourned there with a few, and became there a nation, great, mighty, and populous:
6 And the Egyptians evil entreated us, and afflicted us, and laid upon us hard bondage:
7 And when we cried unto the LORD God of our fathers, the LORD heard our voice, and looked on our affliction, and our labour, and our oppression:
8 And the LORD brought us forth out of Egypt with a mighty hand, and with an outstretched arm, and with great terribleness, and with signs, and with wonders:
9 And he hath brought us into this place, and hath given us this land, even a land that floweth with milk and honey.
10 And now, behold, I have brought the firstfruits of the land, which thou, O LORD, hast given me. And thou shalt set it before the LORD thy God, and worship before the LORD thy God:
11 And thou shalt rejoice in every good thing which the LORD thy God hath given unto thee, and unto thine house, thou, and the Levite, and the stranger that is among you.
12 When thou hast made an end of tithing all the tithes of thine increase the third year, which is the year of tithing, and hast given it unto the Levite, the stranger, the fatherless, and the widow, that they may eat within thy gates, and be filled;

Hebrews 13:15-16 KJV
15 By him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of our lips giving thanks to his name.
16 But to do good and to communicate forget not: for with such sacrifices God is well pleased.
