Daily Devotions:
by Christina Farris

1 Corinthians 10:1-33 KJV
1 Moreover, brethren, I would not that ye should be ignorant, how that all our fathers were under the cloud, and all passed through the sea;
2 And were all baptized unto Moses in the cloud and in the sea;
3 And did all eat the same spiritual meat;
4 And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ.
5 But with many of them God was not well pleased: for they were overthrown in the wilderness.
6 Now these things were our examples, to the intent we should not lust after evil things, as they also lusted.
7 Neither be ye idolaters, as were some of them; as it is written, The people sat down to eat and drink, and rose up to play.
8 Neither let us commit fornication, as some of them committed, and fell in one day three and twenty thousand.
9 Neither let us tempt Christ, as some of them also tempted, and were destroyed of serpents. 10 Neither murmur ye, as some of them also murmured, and were destroyed of the destroyer.
11 Now all these things happened unto them for ensamples: and they are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are come.
12 Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall.
13 There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.
14 Wherefore, my dearly beloved, flee from idolatry.
15 I speak as to wise men; judge ye what I say.
16 The cup of blessing which we bless, is it not the communion of the blood of Christ? The bread which we break, is it not the communion of the body of Christ?
17 For we being many are one bread, and one body: for we are all partakers of that one bread.
18 Behold Israel after the flesh: are not they which eat of the sacrifices partakers of the altar?
19 What say I then? that the idol is any thing, or that which is offered in sacrifice to idols is any thing?
20 But I say, that the things which the Gentiles sacrifice, they sacrifice to devils, and not to God: and I would not that ye should have fellowship with devils.
21 Ye cannot drink the cup of the Lord, and the cup of devils: ye cannot be partakers of the Lord's table, and of the table of devils.
22 Do we provoke the Lord to jealousy? are we stronger than he?
23 All things are lawful for me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but all things edify not.
24 Let no man seek his own, but every man another's wealth.
25 Whatsoever is sold in the shambles, that eat, asking no question for conscience sake:
26 For the earth is the Lord's, and the fulness thereof.
27 If any of them that believe not bid you to a feast, and ye be disposed to go; whatsoever is set before you, eat, asking no question for conscience sake.
28 But if any man say unto you, This is offered in sacrifice unto idols, eat not for his sake that shewed it, and for conscience sake: for the earth is the Lord's, and the fulness thereof:
29 Conscience, I say, not thine own, but of the other: for why is my liberty judged of another man's conscience?
30 For if I by grace be a partaker, why am I evil spoken of for that for which I give thanks?
31 Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.
32 Give none offence, neither to the Jews, nor to the Gentiles, nor to the church of God:
33 Even as I please all men in all things, not seeking mine own profit, but the profit of many, that they may be saved.

What do we eat and drink of when we read scripture, and study the testimony of faith, both present and centuries ago concerning Christ? Christ being the Rock that did not cause the serpents to bite but brought salvation to all that looked to who in the wilderness, Moses who spoke what; the word of God. Is our flesh not sacrificed in regards to the cross we must bear on this earth. Does our body not face decay. As I work out at the gym, I find one thing out, my body is old and more prone to stupid injuries and at the same time, I still find a tug of life still there. Finally back to running my mile, not great time yet, but those ankle and calf injury pretty much healed up. I found my body could not do what it use to do after several other things happening, but I found out I had more endurance then what I thought I had. Why because exercise makes one feel better. If your in the word of God and you running the race of faith despite set backs, failures and such you should feel better spiritual, mentally, and sometimes even physically. Moses' people found when they obey the laws and worshipped God that they did not have the trouble of those that did not. It kind of like this mask wearing things. You can either wear it to protect yourself and others. You can take a vaccine to do the same, or you can do the opposite and face definitely cov-19 at some point with great results because your body fights it or you face your maker, who only ask why did you not take the life line I offered for free.

Moses even knew there was consequences for disobedience, he witnessed it in the desert and in Egypt when he killed two Egyptians. In fact the two Egyptians he killed because the were beating two hebrews, caused him to have to leave the palace until the Pharaoh was gone that wanted him dead.(story found in Exodus). There is point we can run from our problems, or we can face them. However those problems may be so we learn to carry a cross. What was Moses cross to protect his people in the desert land he lived in for a time, his running only took him away from battle until time for Hebrew people to exodus Egypt. Sounds like the killing was justified by God? Perhaps, but at the same time he broke the law of Egypt. There those that run for a time, Jesus bore his cross because of insurrection, but he killed no one. What the point he innocently suffered for the sake of word of God and the laws of the temple. His crime being King of the Jews, opposition of Roman rule. Yet did not Rome try to wash there hands of the whole matter?

Where I am I going with this, this passage talks about the bread that is broken for you and me. Talking about the flesh of Jesus but also talking about the flesh of the church, the flesh of the believer. Those that follow God's word is not like the Idolators that eat the flesh of the sacrifice on their altars. Instead we are the sacrifice, we bear our burden of carrying the word of God and the word of Christ. That stone yesterday is clear. Humans are stones but Christ is the solid stone that is not chipped away, but is solid. God molds our stone into what and where he needs us to be as a believer. The idolators foundation is shaped by human hands, and human trickery and not by faith in their false god. God of Bible molds and makes his dough into the bread that will bear the cross of his word.

What then if all God creates is his, then what we eat and drink we should not worry about, but if the sacrifice on the altar of Idol would make someone else sin, then we need not to eat the sacrifice of sin, or idolatry for the sake of another who is observing and calls it sin. Those that refuse to eat certain meat and say this is what scripture teaches then should we refrain or show what also God's word teaches on the subject. Realize different cultures, and different ideas of sin is not going to be the same. However God's people have one code book and it called the Bible and the Spirit of God that speaks to every believer of faith.

When Noah sacrifice on the altar God gave Noah meat to eat, not until after the flood was it okay to eat meat. The meat was only given to God as a sacrifice to him. Strange as it sounds, God gave every herb plant, vegetables and fruit for man to eat, before giving man meat. Then under the Mosaic law came laws of what type of meat was okay to eat, and I personally believe the customed did not change even entering the promiseland thought it be given by zealots of faith of the law. There are reason God does what he does.

There is a point to this God is faithful to deliver his word, but we also carry it and we carry the past and the present of his word. Did his word change. I don't think so, but he did not give man everything at once, nor explain every promise at once to man, because some of it was not for the present time. Be more concerned about the group of people, the world, those need saving then your own needs. Will one more missed meal cause one to starve. One more missed meal cause anyone to go hungry for a life time. I think of Paul on the road and wonder, did he have a meal every day and even two or three. If you ever traveled you know there are times meals go missing sometimes, but if you have plenty of provision it not a problem. However if you go into a land where people are feasting and they the sacrifice given to idols, can you eat of it, not to testify of God and his Word. Not to testify to weaker christians that are with you. You have to stand your ground on the word of God. Those things were created by God, but what it is used for is not of God.

Maybe that why some Christians look plain and others wear gold. Some choose to shun things that appear to part of the world of sin. Others dapple to gathers the lost in. So it a world of mixed up believers of faith in Christ. Let us then make sure our mindset for our actions is not to worship idols, or to follow after man, but to be example of faith in places that not always of God. Yeah I suspect there Christians in appareil and dress wear that seam not of faith, but it does not matter, because they know what in their heart and not to play the games of idolatries and games of heathens that are in opposition to their faith. How great is God faithfulness to all of us that are different from the world, but embrace things of the world to gather others in. Do we become celebrity to win those on the stage. To change perhaps the evil within the roadshow. Let us ask where are we going, what are we doing? Is it fun, is it valuable to our faith. There is not one thing of value that can be destroyed by God or created to last for eternity that we need not know what is truly important in our faith. One being hope, love, faith, and so forth, those fruits of the Spirit of God. However many of us are materialistic. We cry over a broken cup. Over destruction of things of the earth. Yet we fail to see God is grooming us to be that sacrificial bread, that learns to give, to share, to value the things that are important to his kingdom more then the things of this world. To value the people that are in need of him. Not just things like love, but people that he created for a purpose, that know not him, but designed to be his child.

Dear Heavenly Father, we thank you for your mercy and grace in our life as you teach us real value and that all things are edible but not beneficial in our life. The cup of enemy is not ours, but the plate and bounty is ours that you provide. That the things of this world are not lasting, but the spiritual truths are. In Jesus precious name, Amen.

Continual Scripture Study: Psalm 78:23-72 KJV
23 Though he had commanded the clouds from above, and opened the doors of heaven,
24 And had rained down manna upon them to eat, and had given them of the corn of heaven.
25 Man did eat angels' food: he sent them meat to the full.
26 He caused an east wind to blow in the heaven: and by his power he brought in the south wind.
27 He rained flesh also upon them as dust, and feathered fowls like as the sand of the sea:
28 And he let it fall in the midst of their camp, round about their habitations.
29 So they did eat, and were well filled: for he gave them their own desire;
30 They were not estranged from their lust. But while their meat was yet in their mouths,
31 The wrath of God came upon them, and slew the fattest of them, and smote down the chosen men of Israel.
32 For all this they sinned still, and believed not for his wondrous works.
33 Therefore their days did he consume in vanity, and their years in trouble.
34 When he slew them, then they sought him: and they returned and enquired early after God.
35 And they remembered that God was their rock, and the high God their redeemer.
36 Nevertheless they did flatter him with their mouth, and they lied unto him with their tongues.
37 For their heart was not right with him, neither were they stedfast in his covenant.
38 But he, being full of compassion, forgave their iniquity, and destroyed them not: yea, many a time turned he his anger away, and did not stir up all his wrath.
39 For he remembered that they were but flesh; a wind that passeth away, and cometh not again.
40 How oft did they provoke him in the wilderness, and grieve him in the desert!
41 Yea, they turned back and tempted God, and limited the Holy One of Israel.
42 They remembered not his hand, nor the day when he delivered them from the enemy.
43 How he had wrought his signs in Egypt, and his wonders in the field of Zoan:
44 And had turned their rivers into blood; and their floods, that they could not drink.
45 He sent divers sorts of flies among them, which devoured them; and frogs, which destroyed them.
46 He gave also their increase unto the caterpiller, and their labour unto the locust.
47 He destroyed their vines with hail, and their sycomore trees with frost.
48 He gave up their cattle also to the hail, and their flocks to hot thunderbolts.
49 He cast upon them the fierceness of his anger, wrath, and indignation, and trouble, by sending evil angels among them.
50 He made a way to his anger; he spared not their soul from death, but gave their life over to the pestilence;
51 And smote all the firstborn in Egypt; the chief of their strength in the tabernacles of Ham:
52 But made his own people to go forth like sheep, and guided them in the wilderness like a flock.
53 And he led them on safely, so that they feared not: but the sea overwhelmed their enemies.
54 And he brought them to the border of his sanctuary, even to this mountain, which his right hand had purchased.
55 He cast out the heathen also before them, and divided them an inheritance by line, and made the tribes of Israel to dwell in their tents.
56 Yet they tempted and provoked the most high God, and kept not his testimonies:
57 But turned back, and dealt unfaithfully like their fathers: they were turned aside like a deceitful bow.
58 For they provoked him to anger with their high places, and moved him to jealousy with their graven images. 59 When God heard this, he was wroth, and greatly abhorred Israel:
60 So that he forsook the tabernacle of Shiloh, the tent which he placed among men;
61 And delivered his strength into captivity, and his glory into the enemy's hand.
62 He gave his people over also unto the sword; and was wroth with his inheritance.
63 The fire consumed their young men; and their maidens were not given to marriage.
64 Their priests fell by the sword; and their widows made no lamentation.
65 Then the Lord awaked as one out of sleep, and like a mighty man that shouteth by reason of wine.
66 And he smote his enemies in the hinder parts: he put them to a perpetual reproach.
67 Moreover he refused the tabernacle of Joseph, and chose not the tribe of Ephraim:
68 But chose the tribe of Judah, the mount Zion which he loved.
69 And he built his sanctuary like high palaces, like the earth which he hath established for ever.
70 He chose David also his servant, and took him from the sheepfolds:
71 From following the ewes great with young he brought him to feed Jacob his people, and Israel his inheritance.
72 So he fed them according to the integrity of his heart; and guided them by the skilfulness of his hands.
