1 To the chief Musician upon Jonathelemrechokim, Michtam of David, when the Philistines took him in Gath. Be merciful unto me, O God: for man would swallow me up; he fighting daily oppresseth me.
2 Mine enemies would daily swallow me up: for they be many that fight against me, O thou most High.
3 What time I am afraid, I will trust in thee.
4 In God I will praise his word, in God I have put my trust; I will not fear what flesh can do unto me.
5 Every day they wrest my words: all their thoughts are against me for evil.
6 They gather themselves together, they hide themselves, they mark my steps, when they wait for my soul.
7 Shall they escape by iniquity? in thine anger cast down the people, O God.
8 Thou tellest my wanderings: put thou my tears into thy bottle: are they not in thy book?
9 When I cry unto thee, then shall mine enemies turn back: this I know; for God is for me.
10 In God will I praise his word: in the LORD will I praise his word.
11 In God have I put my trust: I will not be afraid what man can do unto me.
12 Thy vows are upon me, O God: I will render praises unto thee.
13 For thou hast delivered my soul from death: wilt not thou deliver my feet from falling, that I may walk before God in the light of the living? Have you ever afraid and knew both sides were in the right and yet, both were wrong? Have you ever been in a place in your life where you knew that fear might over take you? Have you ever been in a war where both sides would win because of God's calling? Have you ever been in a place and do not understand why God is allowing the anointed person before to inflict judgment on your equally anointed life? David was in a place he knew Saul was anointed king of God, he was chosen to serve the nation of Israel, and yet he too was anointed by God to serve the nation but his time was not yet to be king. Saul was chasing David to kill him, and yet David desire to not to harm Saul, but to put an end to this mess between him and the king. David was afraid harm would come to him and his family, and yet the day of fear came as David hid in the back of a cave, as King Saul and his soldiers were in the front wanting for the storm to pass and they also slept within the cave.
David had learned to trust in God in many fearful situations, so the words "what time I am afraid I will trust in thee" was not new to David as he wrote this Psalm, but it was words of strength for his men and for him in many situations. David perhaps learn those words tending his Father's sheep in the field as a boy. He dealt with lions and bears and never thought any more about the trouble beyond learning how to defeat the one killing and stealing his sheep. Yet now he had to keep the anointed king alive and protect his own life as well. David went and lived in enemy territory hoping Saul would not follow. That did not prevent Saul, and this cave was only a place to rest, not even knowing the one he sought was behind him. David cut a piece of the king robe that night in the cave while Saul slept as proof he could of killed the king. As the king and his men got up and went out some distance from the cave, David said look King, here part of your robe, I did not kill you, I wish you no harm. King Saul then put down his weapons of war between David and him.
David knew to trust in God he knew even if the enemy would slay him God had marked his very steps and his tears were even bottled up in the book, for no doubt those tears are of his sorrow to have to run from King Saul,. David found strength praising his God and praise God for keeping the promise of his protection of his own anointing as king. If God has called you and you have to fulfill that call don't fear what going to happen, fear the one that holds the power of protection over you. If God called you for a reason he called you not to fear in those things you understand not.
There is time everyone fears and are afraid of what is coming before them. Fear when you see a train coming at you and you live you know God has a purpose in your life. But that is my life, not yours, and remember God has a purpose for you has well. Are you willing to stand up in faith trusting that nothing today will harm you that is not in the will of God, or won't stop you from existing til your time is up. Look at Christ life you see he went to the cross knowing his job would be complete with the resurrection on earth, yet he knew he had a duty and a cross to bear first, before God's will was completed in his life on earth. Yet he still spent forty days after the cross teaching his disciples is Father's will. Yet he would constantly prepare his disciples of the cross they to must bear. That cross part of the will of God. What are we afraid of, if God's will in our life is to be a witness in some foreign place in the world, or even at home. If our journey is different then our ancestors before us. We may be called to carpentry, working with our hands, cooking, sewing, working in a store, or business. May even have a cushy desk job, but whatever the call of God in your life, are you using it to be that witness for him. If you are afraid to share, do you not think God will not open a door to share the Gospel if you ask him to send people your way. God can appoint you where you are, or else where, but do not fear the journey God has planned for you, or even your enemies.
Our fear is what will prevent us from doing the will of God if we only act on that fear and not on the call and promises of God for our life. God did not speak to Abraham til he was up in years to leave his home for the promise land, nor was Noah young when he built the ark. Think for a moment the time when God's calling is when you begin to heed to the word of God for your life. Hold to the promises he has given you. God is good and his love for you is great. When we choose to do things God's way and not to sin, his will in our life is one that will impact others including ourselves. Just because you not able to do the things in older years, don't fret God can still use you.
Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for calling each of your children for a particular task. Help us not fear those things in our life that we do not understand, but to simply praise you through those darkest hours when we might be in fear. Give us strength Lord and allows us to rest in your promise of protection. In Jesus precious name, Amen.

32 And they were in the way going up to Jerusalem; and Jesus went before them: and they were amazed; and as they followed, they were afraid. And he took again the twelve, and began to tell them what things should happen unto him,
33 Saying, Behold, we go up to Jerusalem; and the Son of man shall be delivered unto the chief priests, and unto the scribes; and they shall condemn him to death, and shall deliver him to the Gentiles:
34 And they shall mock him, and shall scourge him, and shall spit upon him, and shall kill him: and the third day he shall rise again.
