Drinking From My Saucer

Daily Devotions:
by Christina Farris

Ephesians 5:1-21 KJV
1 Be ye therefore followers of God, as dear children;
2 And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweetsmelling savour.
3 But fornication, and all uncleanness, or covetousness, let it not be once named among you, as becometh saints;
4 Neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor jesting, which are not convenient: but rather giving of thanks.
5 For this ye know, that no whoremonger, nor unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, hath any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God.
6 Let no man deceive you with vain words: for because of these things cometh the wrath of God upon the children of disobedience.
7 Be not ye therefore partakers with them.
8 For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light:
9 (For the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness and righteousness and truth;)
10 Proving what is acceptable unto the Lord.
11 And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them.
12 For it is a shame even to speak of those things which are done of them in secret.
13 But all things that are reproved are made manifest by the light: for whatsoever doth make manifest is light.
14 Wherefore he saith, Awake thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall give thee light.
15 See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise,
16 Redeeming the time, because the days are evil.
17 Wherefore be ye not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is.
18 And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit;
19 Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord;
20 Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ;
21 Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God.

Mirroring seeing a reflection of oneself as one truly is. Often when one reads scripture the mirroring of God the Father, Son And Holy Spirit, seems almost in servant display. When we allow God to serve us, as Savior, he is providing this service through self sacrifice of becoming like we should be through His Son. When God gives us the gift of the Holy Spirit to do his work, he is providing a God given ability, giving us the ability to do more then possible by our own power. Meaning the Holy Spirit must intercede through us, we being like a portal to God here on earth. Yet without ministers and teachers of God, God is still able to speak to mankind. Jesus body being a covering or cloak or garment for God, it is not something we can do in our human flesh. God gives us the ability to refuse and reject him. When we receive Christ into our hearts, we receiving not only the word of God, but the Spirit of God to come and dine with our soul. His work on earth is manifested in our life by his Spirit, that as we turn from the things of this world we turn to follow Christ Jesus in his servant submission to God's will for our life. We can not remain asleep once awaken to new life through salvation by Christ Jesus. Yet as we learn to follow Christ and serve Christ we learn to put away sin, from even participation of it.

If you continue to drink the alcohol of the world you will remain, unfilled by God's Spirit. It easy to backslide into sin of the world because of our desires, but it because of the cross we choose to resist temptation of the world. We leave the sin and things of this world behind to embrace the word and Spirit of God in our life. Yet these things are not odd to the world, for they to embrace the things of this world in regards to habits, ideas, and thoughts. The difference is God has no place in the way of the world that everyone born into the world is tempted to follow after. It is this world that Adam punishment for sin came to placed in, with the temptation of Adam and Eve to follow after the ways the devil verses the ways of God.

How do we learn to resist temptation, through prayer, and singing, learning to make a joyful noise to the Lord. To worship God through the things we do and say. Worshipping God through our actions of faith, love, hope, joy, longsuffering, gentleness, patience and so forth. We worship God with our obedience to follow in Christ footstep, despite our desire to sin. A drill sergeant says go left and you go right, you not following his instruction, you marching to a different leader or rebellion to the orders of the sergeant. The goaled of the sergeant is to get everone intune to his voice, his word, and to almost be able to second guess his actions, or words, so that his men and women are in unity.

Christian are in the army of God if we are intune with God, we are going to know what His Spirit speaks to us about, we are going to study God's word to learn it, even if we are not memorizers. It will not matter what language we speak it will be the same instructions to all of God's people, to follow after Christ and turn away from sin. To be cleanse and purfieid by God's Spirit of not only God's reality, but God saving grace through Christ Jesus death and resurrection. We are not remain dead in the grave where our sins are burried but we are to arise into new life with Christ through his resurrecion. What happened at the resurrection Jesus began to teach his disciples for forty days, before ascending into heaven and empowering them with the Holy Spirit to do the work they had been called to do as children and followers of Christ.

There is a song called "Drinking From My Saucer", sung by Michael Combs. It is about our life being over flowing like a saucer with God's Spirit. It is not the antics of emotion or joy, but the love and compassion of Christ for others. Our life should flow with love. It is hard to flow with love at times, when the world is in such opposition of love with greed, desire, wantoningness and so forth. It hard to keep one's cool. Yet we called to love one another. To have the Holy Spirit overflowing in our life without fruit in our life. Sometimes God gives us a big audience to minister to and teach and lead and sometimes God gives us all we truly can handle and that one or two people in our life. Those that nurse and care for others know how taxing caring for more then one person can be stressful in their job, when the least little thing change the dynamics of a situation in the person they are serving. Yet they also learn that their patience and their own actions affect their patients. Those we minister to are effect by how we react to them.

Are we drinking from the fountain of life, are we drinking so we over flow with the things of God, or the things of the world. Can we hold ourself in check. The answer is no, we need to drink daily from God's fountain, his word, and his water of life. It not always reading scripture, sometimes it singing, quiet meditation on who God is and his beauty. When and if I ever get to go on vacation I planning to drink in the beauty of God's creation. It is something we all need to do from time to time, to understand that vastness of his handiwork not only in the world he made, but our own life. A renewel of the heart and mind as one thinks on their own relationship with God, and how we ourselves have grown in him as he moves in our life. Let us be filled with his Spirit of love.

Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for the gift of our Son and Spirit that overflows in our life, making us filled with your Spirit and not the drunkness of the world and things of this world that will not last. In Jesus precious name, Amen.

Continual Scripture Study: Hebrews 12:1-3 KJV
1 Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,
2 Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.
3 For consider him that endured such contradiction of sinners against himself, lest ye be wearied and faint in your minds.
