The Rescue: Lesson 6 10/06/2021
Daily Devotions: by Christina Farris2 Samuel 13:1-39 KJV
1 And it came to pass after this, that Absalom the son of David had a fair sister, whose name was Tamar; and Amnon the son of David loved her.
2 And Amnon was so vexed, that he fell sick for his sister Tamar; for she was a virgin; and Amnon thought it hard for him to do any thing to her.
3 But Amnon had a friend, whose name was Jonadab, the son of Shimeah David's brother: and Jonadab was a very subtil man.
4 And he said unto him, Why art thou, being the king's son, lean from day to day? wilt thou not tell me? And Amnon said unto him, I love Tamar, my brother Absalom's sister.
5 And Jonadab said unto him, Lay thee down on thy bed, and make thyself sick: and when thy father cometh to see thee, say unto him, I pray thee, let my sister Tamar come, and give me meat, and dress the meat in my sight, that I may see it, and eat it at her hand.
6 So Amnon lay down, and made himself sick: and when the king was come to see him, Amnon said unto the king, I pray thee, let Tamar my sister come, and make me a couple of cakes in my sight, that I may eat at her hand.
7 Then David sent home to Tamar, saying, Go now to thy brother Amnon's house, and dress him meat.
8 So Tamar went to her brother Amnon's house; and he was laid down. And she took flour, and kneaded it, and made cakes in his sight, and did bake the cakes.
9 And she took a pan, and poured them out before him; but he refused to eat. And Amnon said, Have out all men from me. And they went out every man from him.
10 And Amnon said unto Tamar, Bring the meat into the chamber, that I may eat of thine hand. And Tamar took the cakes which she had made, and brought them into the chamber to Amnon her brother.
11 And when she had brought them unto him to eat, he took hold of her, and said unto her, Come lie with me, my sister.
12 And she answered him, Nay, my brother, do not force me; for no such thing ought to be done in Israel: do not thou this folly.
13 And I, whither shall I cause my shame to go? and as for thee, thou shalt be as one of the fools in Israel. Now therefore, I pray thee, speak unto the king; for he will not withhold me from thee.
14 Howbeit he would not hearken unto her voice: but, being stronger than she, forced her, and lay with her.
15 Then Amnon hated her exceedingly; so that the hatred wherewith he hated her was greater than the love wherewith he had loved her. And Amnon said unto her, Arise, be gone.
16 And she said unto him, There is no cause: this evil in sending me away is greater than the other that thou didst unto me. But he would not hearken unto her.
17 Then he called his servant that ministered unto him, and said, Put now this woman out from me, and bolt the door after her.
18 And she had a garment of divers colours upon her: for with such robes were the king's daughters that were virgins apparelled. Then his servant brought her out, and bolted the door after her.
19 And Tamar put ashes on her head, and rent her garment of divers colours that was on her, and laid her hand on her head, and went on crying.
20 And Absalom her brother said unto her, Hath Amnon thy brother been with thee? but hold now thy peace, my sister: he is thy brother; regard not this thing. So Tamar remained desolate in her brother Absalom's house.
21 But when king David heard of all these things, he was very wroth.
22 And Absalom spake unto his brother Amnon neither good nor bad: for Absalom hated Amnon, because he had forced his sister Tamar.
23 And it came to pass after two full years, that Absalom had sheepshearers in Baalhazor, which is beside Ephraim: and Absalom invited all the king's sons.
24 And Absalom came to the king, and said, Behold now, thy servant hath sheepshearers; let the king, I beseech thee, and his servants go with thy servant.
25 And the king said to Absalom, Nay, my son, let us not all now go, lest we be chargeable unto thee. And he pressed him: howbeit he would not go, but blessed him.
26 Then said Absalom, If not, I pray thee, let my brother Amnon go with us. And the king said unto him, Why should he go with thee?
27 But Absalom pressed him, that he let Amnon and all the king's sons go with him.
28 Now Absalom had commanded his servants, saying, Mark ye now when Amnon's heart is merry with wine, and when I say unto you, Smite Amnon; then kill him, fear not: have not I commanded you? be courageous, and be valiant.
29 And the servants of Absalom did unto Amnon as Absalom had commanded. Then all the king's sons arose, and every man gat him up upon his mule, and fled.
30 And it came to pass, while they were in the way, that tidings came to David, saying, Absalom hath slain all the king's sons, and there is not one of them left.
31 Then the king arose, and tare his garments, and lay on the earth; and all his servants stood by with their clothes rent.
32 And Jonadab, the son of Shimeah David's brother, answered and said, Let not my lord suppose that they have slain all the young men the king's sons; for Amnon only is dead: for by the appointment of Absalom this hath been determined from the day that he forced his sister Tamar.
33 Now therefore let not my lord the king take the thing to his heart, to think that all the king's sons are dead: for Amnon only is dead.
34 But Absalom fled. And the young man that kept the watch lifted up his eyes, and looked, and, behold, there came much people by the way of the hill side behind him.
35 And Jonadab said unto the king, Behold, the king's sons come: as thy servant said, so it is.
36 And it came to pass, as soon as he had made an end of speaking, that, behold, the king's sons came, and lifted up their voice and wept: and the king also and all his servants wept very sore.
37 But Absalom fled, and went to Talmai, the son of Ammihud, king of Geshur. And David mourned for his son every day.
38 So Absalom fled, and went to Geshur, and was there three years.
39 And the soul of king David longed to go forth unto Absalom: for he was comforted concerning Amnon, seeing he was dead.
The laws today as we know them concerning incest began in 1900s the law of scripture changed with the laws of Moses. For Abraham married his sister. However, incest with rape is a different matter in scripture. The King David Son Amnon found Tamar his sister fair to look at and desire her. So he tricked her into coming to his room causing her to think she was helping him because he was sick and he raped her. She did her best to stop him, with the laws of the land She told him their Father would not stop him from marrying her, then after he raped her and he forced her from his bed, she tried one more time, to plead with him to do the right thing and marry her. Incest as adult or as a child makes no difference when it comes to laws. It still what it is. It matters not if you only share one parent and have a different parent mother or father. Today the incest law is explained no one can marry unless it is a second cousin, anything else is consider incest or rape. Rape/incest is consider especially in this case anyone that deceives, tricks or misleads a person that is close kin into sexual experience they neither ready for, forced upon, or caused to perform a sexual act. I sure the actual law has better terminology then I just gave probably even more explicit. However it matters not the laws today are even more defined then they were centuries ago. The law of Moses declares these events of incest a curse. The the two family members involved are put away or cut off from the sight of the people. The nation worst areas for incest is in mountain regions, because either the laws are unknown, the people uneducated about the laws or care little about the law. Their lust is greater then their knowledge and desire to do what is right in God's eyes or to follow the laws of man. God does not always stop mankind from sinning. A child may wonder why did God not stop the sin of adult. Why is he shunned, what did he do that was wrong. The child the victim, the adult the abuser. And if it happening as far as two adults having incest relationship they are breaking the law too. Scripture talks about faith not being under the laws. Yet is this a law that can be broken and one still can be a christian. This is a moral law of society conduct not a law of faith, but is it a law of faith in regards to love. Can a person really be saved at the time of the act of abuse even if done in ignorance. Do we not hate our enemy though we told to love after being saved. Is this a sin that is committed that all abusers are going to hell? Society would like to classify all abuser going to hell, because of immoral act on innocent child, or adult. Is this person caught in mental illness or done it because of uncontrol desire, or desires unchecked. Did he have knowledge? Truth be told most would love to just string abuser of this nature up and forget it. However this man/woman has a soul.
Is there a line when it comes to faith, if belief is the only recourse, after the law of faith never changed but the laws of man did. Was not Abraham justified by faith as being righteous despite sleeping with Hagar his wife maida. If belief in Jesus is all it takes to be saved, then is immoral acts justified. the answer is still no. Judgment coming from God in form of correction and in the form of judgment, as well as society laws intervening when forced to intervene in these issues. God is not going to allow sin in his habitation. If Christ lives in your heart, then sin can not remain or dwell there without correction and your heart being swept clean. In five hundered years if the world still here these laws of man may change some more concerning the issues of rape and incest. However God's law of love and respect is not changing. His ability to correct his offspring is not changing. If you are a child of God and you are living in any kind of sin it is going to be removed. It has no place in your heart. Do not think if you are an abuser that sin of that nature is not going to try and creep in once it is removed from your life, because the devil going to try and get you at any place he can. Maybe your sin does not seem as severe as molestation, incest or rape, but sin is sin. Sin may abide for a time, but God will correct and even punish you.
The case of Tamar, her big brother Absalom even knowing the rift it would cause in his family killed his brother Amnon for defiling his sister and he took his sister to live in his home, to protect her. King David understand all that had happened to Tamar forgave Absalom for murder of his brother, though he grieved. Big brother had come to Tamar rescue. God did not revenge her brother except maybe in his eternal fate, because of the laws were implied and they were of royal blood, no trial needed to enforce the law. Our land is made of laws that prevent another for killing because of abuse. However our laws do give a jail sentence for the crime and in truth the jail time is not long enough, the sentence not great enough for what the victim must handle for decades. Sometimes victims can not fight back even if the law can be applied to the crime, out of fear, financial aid and so forth or rather it not be known, because the one abused is now liabled/victim again if it goes to trial and for some reason they loose the case.
If man laws make no difference in the law of faith, called belief in Jesus, but the law is servant to us to teach us right from wrong and even instill morality, then where there is no law there is no morality, no sin, no crime. Is there faith without love and loving others in regards to respect in God's eyes. We are to love our neighbor, friend, and family as we do ourselves. We are to have Christ like compassion on mankind. It is possible to sin by the law of the land and not the law of faith, because where the law entangled by faith anger over situations do occurs and breaking of the law. Christ anger cause the tables to be turned over in the temple. Action occuring not justified by man's laws only God's laws. I do believe some situation takes and act of God's Spirit. Are reliance on Jesus is important, our reliance on God's Spirit in all situations is important. To do what is right is important by God's law of love and man law. Yet sin occurs with are reactions and thoughts to a situation. We can be angry enough that are actions are not normal. The abuser, his sin can never be justified except through the cross for that why Christ died for all sin. yet it still sin. Something that is wrong. Our anger is wrong too.
Dear Heavenly Father, your law of love is greater then any sin out there, but our ability to love the sinner is not always the same as yours. May your law of love reign in the heart of everyone of your children that even when sin occurs we do the right thing despite the harm others cause. Remove sexual abuse from the church world and those that claim the name of Jesus. In Jesus precious name, Amen.
Continual Scripture Study: Leviticus 20:17 KJV
17 And if a man shall take his sister, his father's daughter, or his mother's daughter, and see her nakedness, and she see his nakedness; it is a wicked thing; and they shall be cut off in the sight of their people: he hath uncovered his sister's nakedness; he shall bear his iniquity.
Deuteronomy 27:22 KJV
22 Cursed be he that lieth with his sister, the daughter of his father, or the daughter of his mother. And all the people shall say, Amen.
Galatians 3:12-29 KJV
12 And the law is not of faith: but, The man that doeth them shall live in them.
13 Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree:
14 That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.
15 Brethren, I speak after the manner of men; Though it be but a man's covenant, yet if it be confirmed, no man disannulleth, or addeth thereto.
16 Now to Abraham and his seed were the promises made. He saith not, And to seeds, as of many; but as of one, And to thy seed, which is Christ.
17 And this I say, that the covenant, that was confirmed before of God in Christ, the law, which was four hundred and thirty years after, cannot disannul, that it should make the promise of none effect.
18 For if the inheritance be of the law, it is no more of promise: but God gave it to Abraham by promise.
19 Wherefore then serveth the law? It was added because of transgressions, till the seed should come to whom the promise was made; and it was ordained by angels in the hand of a mediator.
20 Now a mediator is not a mediator of one, but God is one.
21 Is the law then against the promises of God? God forbid: for if there had been a law given which could have given life, verily righteousness should have been by the law.
22 But the scripture hath concluded all under sin, that the promise by faith of Jesus Christ might be given to them that believe.
23 But before faith came, we were kept under the law, shut up unto the faith which should afterwards be revealed.
24 Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith.
25 But after that faith is come, we are no longer under a schoolmaster.
26 For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus.
27 For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ.
28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus.
29 And if ye be Christ's, then are ye Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise.
