How quick is to stone the one that appears to act like God before us without a trial. How quick are we to stone the Messiah with his words. We can not read scripture without finding riddles of the language within it, with stronger meanings then we fully understand. If we fail to understand the first part of the riddle, we fail to understand the full meaning of it. Jews knew scripture, but the gentiles did not. People in town knew little about sheep perhaps, but those in the countryside knew much about sheep. If I speak to people about the city living unless you are from the country you might not understand the words of the city folks without a lot of question. If you raised in the city all your life you will not understand much about country living without some experience. If you spend time in country you learn quickly in the city if you find others from back home or similiar areas growing up. It is a rule of thumb. City people are use to everyone knowing your business even business you don't want known because of everyone living so close. If you spread apart by miles, you are use to the gossip line of untruths being past to one's neighbor, with a little truth mixed in. Though city people will gossip as will there is a level of truth filtered by lies that surface of what more believable the tale or the talebearer.
There is a point to my madness this morning if you read the above chapter you confused by why would anyone want to stone Jesus in the first place what did he do. If you grab an online Bible or your physical Bible and open it up you find Jesus told a story about sheep and more prophetic speech of who he was and what would happen to him in the future.Yet I did not post because it not necessary for this discourse beyond understanding these people still question Jesus authority as Messiah, as Son of God and so forth, yet he could open blind eyes. The language of Christ plain to those that are believers and know scripture, but those never hearing are a little blind to the outcome in scripture.
More I ponder this thought I see Christ language is like speaking to the blind and also perhaps the deaf at times, thought they hear they do not understand the meaning of the words and some knowing scripture of the scrolls of Old Testament understand faintly but not enough to explain it to their neighbor. It like starting a new task with some knowledge of what happening but having to ask for more knowledge to finish what one started. Meaning ever perceiving but never fully grasp the entire picture of the project until complete. Read the road map and see the route but only can imagine reaching the end of the map and finding the burried treasure at the end of the journey. When we read scripture we often have to dig for what something means, because we have no knowledge of the meaning of the speaker, though it be in plain english. Most books you read once and very little hidden within the book, no secrets to try and figure out. You read a book of a historical time period you read a book that you have to study that time period perhaps to figure out what a person may of understood at that time by the technology that was developed then or political events of the time period. Yet the Jews life was and still is to a point based on scripture and what scripture declares and says. Christians today still the same to a point, it is the sole scripture of faith without it our faith only evidence is brought by the Holy Spirit by his grace.
These people are angry at Jesus not because of the miracle but because of his language that makes no sense to them because of scripture, because their unlearned of hebrew language perhaps, and maybe culture glitch because of the location they were raised in. We read scripture and ever learning over time what things mean, and a good cross reference Bible helps with those things, but it not full proof. It helps when it comes to Old Testament reference not to local jargon of the day. If five preachers get together and they pull out their Bible they will understand each other quit well, but if they talk about coal fields, nuclear power plants, steel mill, and working at walmart, who do you think will be more understood. Walmart more understandable because one might shop there, but location of all three other places might not ever been invisioned.
For example a county in WV had a local water problem, the water pump and filter needed cleaning that had been installed. Those who had dirty water had no knowledge of the cleaning process nor the town, but by newer picture it appeared that some told them what was causing the water issue. Problem solved. Lack of experience the lack of knowledge and the lack of what the problem can cause without education. Jesus had knowledge of God's word because he was the Son of God not because he sat and necessarily studied scripture for hours. those who have no knowledge of how this cross referencing works. We learn about something in one chapter and go to another reference and find the key to solve part of the riddle based on how it is applied. Jesus is called the Son of God, but Jews were known as sons of God. Difference capital letter on Son, and lower case letter distinguishing what authority one has. The term little gods. First the Jews believed not Jesus was the Messiah, second they looked to nail him with his words and even claimed he blasphemed, but he did and did not based on the understanding that Jesus is who he declares and based on Old Time scripture of Old Testament. His words gaining knew knowledge with scripture. Yet we also understand that Old testament scripture means he was teaching as a religious teacher about God's word and what it says, that they to were sons of God but did not have authority to do certain work of God, no they had power of prayer, but did they pray? Did they pray for the blind man to be healed. Did they pray and seek God for the solution. Perhaps but God choose that hour of healing to reveal who Jesus was to those not blind. Those blind he used it to bring the begining uprising against Jesus his Son. He was showing the quick response was not always the correct response if they only would listen. If they were going to examine who Jesus claimed to be they needed to study scripture and apply some of what is said to self.
We might not at times like to hear what God speaks to our hearts or read what is in scripture and say we don't agree which is like stoning Jesus. But at the same time are we better then those that desire to stone Jesus back during his life on earth, definitely not. We all have our moments of not understanding scripture, do not despair, do not stone the teacher, but examine, search and dig for the truth of what being said. You do not have to understand any antedote the minister might use, but you can learn to understand the scripture. A good story teller can make the steel mill, the power plant and the coal fields come alive, walmart already alive by to most of us. Now if you only order groceries and never take your child into a store it going to loose meaning very quickly. It could become a thing of the pass shopping in stores at the rate ordering online effect is having. Yet it does increase the job market for gathering orders.
Point being we are all watching we ever perceiving our time period, what about the time of Christ are we fully grasping his time, and time in which he speaks. I believe we can with good educators, and people willing to listen. That time period not much different then our own, though the political world was different then it is today. Religious world only changes by the countries laws and how much imput those laws have in the religious realm. Let's not stone the messengers of Christ or stone Jesus without first understanding the backround of knowledge they may or may not have. Understanding the only language needed to learn is scripture and a good story teller can explain the rest of the language of the scripture. The Holy Spirit teaches the heart to listen and to pray for understanding and wisdom.
Dear Heavenly Father, let us not stone for a lack knowledge, but give us wisdom and understanding of things we can not fully grasp in one sitting or several sitting and studying of God's word. In Jesus precious name, Amen.
