Daily Devotions:
by Christina Farris

John 6:24-71 KJV
24 When the people therefore saw that Jesus was not there, neither his disciples, they also took shipping, and came to Capernaum, seeking for Jesus.
25 And when they had found him on the other side of the sea, they said unto him, Rabbi, when camest thou hither?
26 Jesus answered them and said, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Ye seek me, not because ye saw the miracles, but because ye did eat of the loaves, and were filled.
27 Labour not for the meat which perisheth, but for that meat which endureth unto everlasting life, which the Son of man shall give unto you: for him hath God the Father sealed.
28 Then said they unto him, What shall we do, that we might work the works of God?
29 Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent.
30 They said therefore unto him, What sign shewest thou then, that we may see, and believe thee? what dost thou work?
31 Our fathers did eat manna in the desert; as it is written, He gave them bread from heaven to eat.
32 Then Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Moses gave you not that bread from heaven; but my Father giveth you the true bread from heaven.
33 For the bread of God is he which cometh down from heaven, and giveth life unto the world.
34 Then said they unto him, Lord, evermore give us this bread.
35 And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst.
36 But I said unto you, That ye also have seen me, and believe not.
37 All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out.
38 For I came down from heaven, not to do mine own will, but the will of him that sent me.
39 And this is the Father's will which hath sent me, that of all which he hath given me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up again at the last day.
40 And this is the will of him that sent me, that every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day.
41 The Jews then murmured at him, because he said, I am the bread which came down from heaven.
42 And they said, Is not this Jesus, the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we know? how is it then that he saith, I came down from heaven?
43 Jesus therefore answered and said unto them, Murmur not among yourselves.
44 No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day.
45 It is written in the prophets, And they shall be all taught of God. Every man therefore that hath heard, and hath learned of the Father, cometh unto me.
46 Not that any man hath seen the Father, save he which is of God, he hath seen the Father.
47 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life.
48 I am that bread of life.
49 Your fathers did eat manna in the wilderness, and are dead.
50 This is the bread which cometh down from heaven, that a man may eat thereof, and not die.
51 I am the living bread which came down from heaven: if any man eat of this bread, he shall live for ever: and the bread that I will give is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world.
52 The Jews therefore strove among themselves, saying, How can this man give us his flesh to eat?
53 Then Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except ye eat the flesh of the Son of man, and drink his blood, ye have no life in you.
54 Whoso eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, hath eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last day.
55 For my flesh is meat indeed, and my blood is drink indeed.
56 He that eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, dwelleth in me, and I in him.
57 As the living Father hath sent me, and I live by the Father: so he that eateth me, even he shall live by me.
58 This is that bread which came down from heaven: not as your fathers did eat manna, and are dead: he that eateth of this bread shall live for ever.
59 These things said he in the synagogue, as he taught in Capernaum.
60 Many therefore of his disciples, when they had heard this, said, This is an hard saying; who can hear it?
61 When Jesus knew in himself that his disciples murmured at it, he said unto them, Doth this offend you?
62 What and if ye shall see the Son of man ascend up where he was before?
63 It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.
64 But there are some of you that believe not. For Jesus knew from the beginning who they were that believed not, and who should betray him.
65 And he said, Therefore said I unto you, that no man can come unto me, except it were given unto him of my Father.
66 From that time many of his disciples went back, and walked no more with him.
67 Then said Jesus unto the twelve, Will ye also go away?
68 Then Simon Peter answered him, Lord, to whom shall we go? thou hast the words of eternal life.
69 And we believe and are sure that thou art that Christ, the Son of the living God.
70 Jesus answered them, Have not I chosen you twelve, and one of you is a devil?
71 He spake of Judas Iscariot the son of Simon: for he it was that should betray him, being one of the twelve.

Lets for a moment pretend you have no knowledge of scripture and this is the only chapter you have. It was left on a street corner this one page from the Bible. You read I am the bread of life. Then you read that unless "whosoever eat my flesh and drinketh my blood hath eternal life and I will raise him up in last days. Now what ideas pop in your heard. Canabalism might be one of them. If I understand not that a miracle at the time of Moses speaks of God giving the Israelites manna from heaven this idea of bread from heaven is equally foreign to a new reader. Yet the fact that Jesus is the bread of life, and that we too must eat of his body/bread to receive salvation, seems foreign rightfully so. Jesus is speaking to the pagan world and to the Jewish world. He speaking to two cultures here. One understanding that God is the bread of life and he gives life, not just bread that nourishes the body but the bread of life that is for the soul of man which is his word. Jesus would have to break his word and go to the cross for our sins, have to be a payer for the price of sin, in order to bring his word back to society.

In the story people were searching for Jesus because he fed them bread and fish, not because of the manna from heaven that Jesus taught. If a man promises you a job if you follow him, you going in search of gold, or you might be consider a gold digger. Sometimes people following after ministers because of their desire for gold. They look at ministry and see how rich it seems to make some ministers, and they see the act and ability to heal as an scientific art, or magical power that can bestowed on a person. Many seeking Jesus seen his ability and power and wanted it for themselves. Though Christ taught the disciples to pray and to use the power given them because of their faith, some did not understand it was not a power owned by them, so they did not see everyone healed or delivered.

Today the biggest deception in the church is those that seek God's power for wealth, for gain and for they can achieve. To eat of Christ body is nothing more then believing in Christ and consuming his word, and his death and resurrection for our forgiveness for sin. Receivin of his death and resurrection on the cross, not necessarily having to sacrifice our own life in like manner but we will, but to receive first his sacrifice. What do I mean we will to be sacrificed. No I did not say you had to be nailed to a physical cross. It is about sacrificing your life for the spread of the Gospel, to share the word of truth so others can meet Jesus. It can however lead to opposition from other people and persecution. If we look at many religions we see this form of persecution is not uncommon. Yet the cross Christ would bear was different then all other world religions that would follow. No other leader would die for the sins of the entire world. Jesus only one that made that claim. God's word is the only word that can take away the sins of the world, the mercy upon the world. Yet he requires us to believe to have eternal life.

We look at the story of Noah and the flood and we see the word given, the warning sounded, and no one listening. I sure there were those looking for a job that might of said Noah I be glad to hammer a nail for you for a couple of days for x amount of money or trade. No doubt when Noah started building that ark, some people asked for worked. Yet Noah took 100 years to build that ark, and only eight people were saved.

Christ gathers the people in large crowds, and with the power of miracles and power of wonders no doubt the crowd swiftly seen gold. Yet they understood not this power was from above. Moses was not the one that gave the Israelites bread, it came from God above. Today we have what people call faith healers, and they distribute items donated to them by individuals, and people see this and believe individuals are rich, but are they, some trully are, others see it as a church effort to feed the poor by their own physical ability. Yet we all heard the story of stone soup, where a stone is placed in a pot and soon the whole neighborhood is donating items to put in that pot of soup. It soon enough to feed the entire village. There are those gifts that man can provide with a little help from others and there are true miracles that can only come from above. Salvation is the first miracle that can be given from God to all generations. The first generation from Adam to Noah knew about the sacrificial lamb. Jesus is called the sacrificial lamb. From Noah to Abraham the sacrifical lamb was till around and to the time of Moses, then the customs and laws of the people were established along with the religious law of the sacrificial lamb. Then when Christ comes he is declared as the sacrificial Lamb for the sins of the world In the pagan world man children had been sacrificed but non took away the sins of the world. In Israels culture the blood of one bull only took sins away for a year, nothing coverd the sins for all eternity. Only Jesus blood sacrifice could. Only His death and his resurrection paid the price for eternity if one would believe and repent from their sins, turn from their wicked ways. God gives his word and then God destroys the sinners like in the day of Noah when it began to rain. Those left behind on the day of Christ return are those that are not saved and will face the wrath of God.

The understanding the power of God verses the power of man within the church world, yet God bless the work of man because it is established by God to help others. Yet there is work only God can do within the church and that miracles, and his power of wonder, for there time even the church has prayed for rain and rain comes. Why then are we blind to the everlasting power of God to save us through eternity, it is because we are conditioned by what our own hands and hands of others can do. We follow the leaders that produce the work of labor and not the work of sharing the Gospel of Jesus. We strive to do the work but fail to share the reason we do these things for others. To share the hope of Jesus, that eternal life comes to those that will receive it, that God in heaven has the power to raise the dead through his Son. That Christ will call his people home for eternity. In truth some see only what man can do and can not receive the blessing of salvation, because they see not the power of what God is doing in the lives of his people or the ministry of the people of God.

Those that seek the gold leave the church when no gold is produced and others remain with the doors continuing in the work God has called them too. To share the salvation message. Do not promise the gold that can not deliver one from hell, but share the promise of the eternal life that leads to streets of pure gold. For truth of the matter is their are business people that share gold to produce more gold to anyone willing to work for it. It a way of life, but to produce salvation the Gospel message must be told and retold that Christ paid the price for our sin of the entire world. That all can be saved with faith and trust in consuming the truth of his word. To take it to the belly and soul and knowing the bitter truth it painful to know What Christ had to do for our sin. Yet we must of eat of his bread/body and drink his blood to receive his salvation. We must be a spiritual canabalism to receive Christ. To receive his word and eat upon it and his flesh and blood.

Dear Heavenly Father, help us to understand their is a need to eat of the sacrifice you gave, to dine on the word of your Son to feast and to drink of the sacrifice offered for our sins. In Jesus precious name, Amen.

Continual Scripture Study: 1 Corinthians 11:23-27 KJV
23 For I have received of the Lord that which also I delivered unto you, That the Lord Jesus the same night in which he was betrayed took bread:
24 And when he had given thanks, he brake it, and said, Take, eat: this is my body, which is broken for you: this do in remembrance of me.
25 After the same manner also he took the cup, when he had supped, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood: this do ye, as oft as ye drink it, in remembrance of me.
26 For as often as ye eat this bread, and drink this cup, ye do shew the Lord's death till he come.
27 Wherefore whosoever shall eat this bread, and drink this cup of the Lord, unworthily, shall be guilty of the body and blood of the Lord.
