Backdraft 10/6/2020
Daily Devotions: by Christina FarrisMatthew 6:22-23 KJV
22 The light of the body is the eye: if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light.
23 But if thine eye be evil, thy whole body shall be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in thee be darkness, how great is that darkness!
This is fire fighter prevention month. One reason I highlight is my husband use to be a volunteer fire fighter, but also this is fire season, because of dry leaves and fortunately this summer and fall we had a lot of rain in my region and through out the south. Maybe more then a normal year. There is a movie called "Backdraft", it is a favorite among many fire fighters. In one the final scenes the fire captain played by Kurt Russel ask the city councilman running for mayor if he seen the little light in his eye and he tells him that his despensation light that was fixing to expire. He was the man that behind all the accidently fires in the area. He was having certain people killed that was interfering with his running for office, basically. Now I am reflecting on the movie, and it been a while since I seen it so, my commentary may need a little improving. Yet it is with all of us we have this little light in our eye, that seems to be the light to our soul. If there be one eye/one light then the whole body full of light. If the eye is evil/darken then it full of evil. Darkness within has consume your soul. There is point when Jesus comes into the heart of man, his light shines through out the body, yet the soul itself is changed to produce light, changed inside to no longer harbor the darkness. The new beleiver ways are no longer full of evil. Our ideas are no longer full of hate, anger and lies. Somethings take time to change but the changing of the soul from dark to light, is the difference between day and night. The light that was fading in the politician eye was the light that others thought they seen in this guy, but the truth of the matter there was only darkness, and his sin was fixing to be revealed to the world. His sin reveal, would bring a shame to his office and council seat.
It is the day that Christ reveals what kind of light is in our soul is the day he declares us his child or not his child. It is the day that our true nature is known to the world which is the day of judgment. If our ways were evil and our heart never received Christ has Lord, then we no better off then the devil who believes but never allowed God to be Lord. Allowing Christ Lord is surrendering everything to Him, but not everything to everyone that ask. We need to understand the difference when it comes to giving the light of Christ to someone. The light that shines in us and out of us. We are not protectors of what man can not destory, we only carriers of the light of Christ. The devil even carries the light of God's word, but there is no light in his soul.
We need to understand the light of Christ dines with our soul, but does not control our soul, we make our choices to live and surrender all to him, or we choose to hear the word and not surrender our life to him. Only carrying bits of pieces of the word of God like one carries a history book or the latest song within the heart. Where are you this morning do you sing I surrender all, or do you feel the backdraft of God's ready to put your light out. Backdraft, God's word backdrafts on the heart of sin. Catching the soul of darkness in the eternal lake of fire. Yet the soul that surrenders to Christ and his will, finds his soul not backdrafted but moving forward with Christ, all the way into eternity.
Dear Heavenly Father, help us to surrender our hearts and soul to you, so that on they day of judgment we are seen with your light shine all the way through our soul. In Jesus precious name, Amen.
Continual Scripture Study: Luke 11:34-36 KJV
34 The light of the body is the eye: therefore when thine eye is single, thy whole body also is full of light; but when thine eye is evil, thy body also is full of darkness.
35 Take heed therefore that the light which is in thee be not darkness.
36 If thy whole body therefore be full of light, having no part dark, the whole shall be full of light, as when the bright shining of a candle doth give thee light.
Isaiah 5:20-21 KJV
20 Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!
21 Woe unto them that are wise in their own eyes, and prudent in their own sight!
