Thanksgivings Countdown 25 Days: The Cup 11/14/2021
Daily Devotions: by Christina FarrisLuke 22:17-20 KJV
17 And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and said, Take this, and divide it among yourselves:
18 For I say unto you, I will not drink of the fruit of the vine, until the kingdom of God shall come.
19 And he took bread, and gave thanks, and brake it, and gave unto them, saying, This is my body which is given for you: this do in remembrance of me.
20 Likewise also the cup after supper, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood, which is shed for you.
I wonder how many noticed I went through what is known as the Beautitudes in Matthew 5 up til this point, and now cutting it off because we know those who are saved must be humble, meek, merciful, a light and so forth as Christ himself was when paying the price and atonement for sin. Christ was bold to speak in the temple, in the city streets, answering the questions of leaders, and explain who he was as Son of God in the flesh. Yet as he begins the thanksgiving of the Lord's supper one can not stop but take note the cup itself was divided among the disciples. The shedding of blood cup for remission of sins. The cup that cover the door post of the homes in Egypt the night the killing of the first born, and Christ being the first born of God in human flesh and the only one born of flesh. His blood would be poured out for you and me. His blood covering our sins upon repentance. Each of the disciples took a portion of the wine that symbolized the blood and drank of it. Blood being the life flow of the Lamb. The life of flow of the testament of faith, the testament of the word of God. Why is the blood divided, one cup, the only cup being Christ that can take away the sins of the world divided also among the disciples for their own cleansing of sin, and the fact they would also would share in the cup of atonement for sin. There own blood not worthy to cover the sins of the world, but they too had a cup they had to bear in sharing the testament of Christ. His word divided within our Gospels today of Christ story, only as proof the dividing of burden of Christ cup for you and me. Many ministers preach the water down version of the cup of Christ. Sticking to the basic principals about the blood atonement, and bread being Christ body broken for you and I. Yet if we go digging around in the New Testament we see a broad picture of the crucifixion story and not just a glimpse of the cross of Christ.
The passage in Revelation 14 perhaps explains something about God's wrath being poured out on the city of Babylon. Let me explains something more this Babylon symbolizing the people not of God, and on judgment day God wrath being poured out. Blood of the saints being gather, and then poured out in the winepress. Our blood can save no one, yet like the soldiers in war their blood is poured out for us, and yet the persecuted of faith blood is often poured out without any saving pour of its own. God in his mercy of his children will revenge his people, but with Christ blood there is no revenge. God's mercy on those that persecuted the Lamb for forgiveness of sin. The blood only being poured out on the lost for persecution of his people. When does it take place the end of time. For even our own persecution of each other is forgiven by the blood of the Lamb, when we take the cup offered for forgiveness and new life. Paul found forgiveness in Christ for his own persecution of the saints.
Can we grasp God's love for us because we step up to the plate to share who he is, facing whatever will come in this life we live, whether persecution or peace, it matters not. That one cup we might sip on as our portion of sharing his cup, but our cup can not save anyone when people believe on the apostles, disciples, prophets and teachers as if they are little gods, our prayer to the saints in heaven can do nothing for us. Our prayers to God the Father by Christ by His Spirit availeth much. There is power in blood of Jesus, there is power in the name of Jesus. There is power in the cup of Christ, for he said forgive them as he hung on the cross for you and me. Christ blood, Christ cup already poured out by the beating and his body being the final offering, the bread of life broken for you and I.
When we think of the cup of Christ and it is offered to his disciples to divide, it is a cup we can not bear without the blood of Christ. We can not bear it on our own. Daniel found himself in the lions den, with the angels that had closed the mouths of lions, only for the next day hear the wrath of God pour out, when the men that had caused his punishment for worshipping God was thrown into the lions and the lions began to eat their flesh. The King bowed to the God of Daniel. People will try and put you in hell to punish you for the wrath they know they will endure if they do not repent.
Last night a sweet kitten did his best to put my husband and I through a night of torment behavior, keeping us both up. Kittens do this, I know this, because we had our fair share of baby animals. However it the process of trying to sleep this kitten would not quit he had a mind of his own, he was going to do what he wanted to do, despite what we try to tell him otherwise. Do Christians not warn others of God's wrath and demonstrate God's love sometimes all at the same time, yet the devil of a person continues to be a devil, with no regard to our needs or wants. Our cross to bear, but God's judgment will come without their repentance. Do we not love the kitten, do we not love those that maybe are fighting against faith in regards to knowing we once did too.
It is when God finally gets a hold of a new believer his path is clearly seen, with the words keep your eyes on Jesus, His wrath is coming to the children of disobedience not you. You are covered by the blood of the lamb, you are protected by the seal of the Holy Spirit. Your faith is whole, you are healed spiritually. Yet in our humanity we sometimes become like the kitten running to and fro, without understanding we can rest, it takes time of learning to divide the word of truth, to divide the cup of Christ between us so others may see the love of Christ. If we had the full impact of the cross could we receive it. Probably not in one gulp. We first need to see his love of going to the cross, before we see the full reason he went and how it applies to obedience. Daniel story of his cross simple, but Christ cross more difficult because of who He is as Lord of Lords and King of kings. The portion of the cup, the portion of unity as believers with the gift of God given to each and everyone of us that believe. The portion of the cup that we receive from Christ comes from Christ alone and then given to us as forgiveness from others when we sin against man, then we can understand we need to strive in faith by living by the word which was broken for you and I, by the death on the cross to only be raised back up, with his word giving us everlasting hope as a believer in Christ. Our portion being his word, his Spirit and his blood covering in our life. It it to be shared by all of his followers that believe.
There those that follow the story of Christ but never receive it beyond the idea of good works, they get too the cross and never accept it. I had been wondering when God was going to show me the reason for this path I been running in scripture, perhaps it has to do with those that follow Christ, knows his word, obeys his truth and stops because they can not receive their portion of the cup and the bread of everlasting life. We need to share the cross of Christ before those face God's wrath with no understanding why. Not just ministers sharing the cross but all sharing the story of the cross, the full measure in small doses so all can handle it. The large dose is very strong dose. Yet like vaccines and antedotes given to much it might save, but it leaves the smile off one's face, of why am I left behind and those others taken. Get your shot, there is a reason God is throwing you a life line through science, it is to testify one more time of his grace and love, that he has a call on science to show his mysteries unfolding for our knowledge of how vast and wonderful God creation truly is in our world and how God wants us involved in taking care of our planet as well as testifying of spiritual truths.
Dear Heavenly Father, help us to share our portion with others of your redeemption in our life and life of others. That you saved us through your Son's cup and he offered that cup to his disciples so they would have a share in his cross, though they be not salvation for the soul. In Jesus precious name, Amen.
Continual Scripture Study: Revelation 14:1-20 KJV
1 And I looked, and, lo, a Lamb stood on the mount Sion, and with him an hundred forty and four thousand, having his Father's name written in their foreheads.
2 And I heard a voice from heaven, as the voice of many waters, and as the voice of a great thunder: and I heard the voice of harpers harping with their harps:
3 And they sung as it were a new song before the throne, and before the four beasts, and the elders: and no man could learn that song but the hundred and forty and four thousand, which were redeemed from the earth.
4 These are they which were not defiled with women; for they are virgins. These are they which follow the Lamb whithersoever he goeth. These were redeemed from among men, being the firstfruits unto God and to the Lamb.
5 And in their mouth was found no guile: for they are without fault before the throne of God.
6 And I saw another angel fly in the midst of heaven, having the everlasting gospel to preach unto them that dwell on the earth, and to every nation, and kindred, and tongue, and people,
7 Saying with a loud voice, Fear God, and give glory to him; for the hour of his judgment is come: and worship him that made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and the fountains of waters.
8 And there followed another angel, saying, Babylon is fallen, is fallen, that great city, because she made all nations drink of the wine of the wrath of her fornication.
9 And the third angel followed them, saying with a loud voice, If any man worship the beast and his image, and receive his mark in his forehead, or in his hand,
10 The same shall drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out without mixture into the cup of his indignation; and he shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels, and in the presence of the Lamb:
11 And the smoke of their torment ascendeth up for ever and ever: and they have no rest day nor night, who worship the beast and his image, and whosoever receiveth the mark of his name.
12 Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus.
13 And I heard a voice from heaven saying unto me, Write, Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth: Yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labours; and their works do follow them.
14 And I looked, and behold a white cloud, and upon the cloud one sat like unto the Son of man, having on his head a golden crown, and in his hand a sharp sickle.
15 And another angel came out of the temple, crying with a loud voice to him that sat on the cloud, Thrust in thy sickle, and reap: for the time is come for thee to reap; for the harvest of the earth is ripe.
16 And he that sat on the cloud thrust in his sickle on the earth; and the earth was reaped.
17 And another angel came out of the temple which is in heaven, he also having a sharp sickle.
18 And another angel came out from the altar, which had power over fire; and cried with a loud cry to him that had the sharp sickle, saying, Thrust in thy sharp sickle, and gather the clusters of the vine of the earth; for her grapes are fully ripe.
19 And the angel thrust in his sickle into the earth, and gathered the vine of the earth, and cast it into the great winepress of the wrath of God.
20 And the winepress was trodden without the city, and blood came out of the winepress, even unto the horse bridles, by the space of a thousand and six hundred furlongs.
James 5:4-16 KJV
4 Behold, the hire of the labourers who have reaped down your fields, which is of you kept back by fraud, crieth: and the cries of them which have reaped are entered into the ears of the Lord of sabaoth.
5 Ye have lived in pleasure on the earth, and been wanton; ye have nourished your hearts, as in a day of slaughter.
6 Ye have condemned and killed the just; and he doth not resist you.
7 Be patient therefore, brethren, unto the coming of the Lord. Behold, the husbandman waiteth for the precious fruit of the earth, and hath long patience for it, until he receive the early and latter rain.
8 Be ye also patient; stablish your hearts: for the coming of the Lord draweth nigh.
9 Grudge not one against another, brethren, lest ye be condemned: behold, the judge standeth before the door.
10 Take, my brethren, the prophets, who have spoken in the name of the Lord, for an example of suffering affliction, and of patience.
11 Behold, we count them happy which endure. Ye have heard of the patience of Job, and have seen the end of the Lord; that the Lord is very pitiful, and of tender mercy.
12 But above all things, my brethren, swear not, neither by heaven, neither by the earth, neither by any other oath: but let your yea be yea; and your nay, nay; lest ye fall into condemnation.
13 Is any among you afflicted? let him pray. Is any merry? let him sing psalms.
14 Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord:
15 And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him.
16 Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.
