Thanksgivings Countdown 25 Days: Thankful to God For Those that Thirst After Righteousness 11/07/2021
Daily Devotions: by Christina FarrisJeremiah 17:5-8 KJV
5 Thus saith the LORD; Cursed be the man that trusteth in man, and maketh flesh his arm, and whose heart departeth from the LORD.
6 For he shall be like the heath in the desert, and shall not see when good cometh; but shall inhabit the parched places in the wilderness, in a salt land and not inhabited.
7 Blessed is the man that trusteth in the LORD, and whose hope the LORD is.
8 For he shall be as a tree planted by the waters, and that spreadeth out her roots by the river, and shall not see when heat cometh, but her leaf shall be green; and shall not be careful in the year of drought, neither shall cease from yielding fruit.
The heat of the hot summer sun pour down upon the woman, as she worked in the fields, waiting for someone to bring water from the well. The heat being unusually hot, but the work had to be done. As the hour past and the next, with the appearance that the man was not coming with water to quench the thirst of the woman. She began to wonder what had happened to the man bringing the water. The walk was over a mile to the nearest creek or well, and the journey to find out would only slow the work down, it was better to wait a little while longer, something may of happened no fault of the one fetching, but the delay was making the situation worse with the weakness and dizzy coming with the lack of water in the hot sun was making the work even hard. No water in sight, the hour ticking, the sweat pouring and the headache that came with the heat, no water, and a hard days work, was coming upon the woman in desperate need of water, as she took her hoe and worked a little harder, waiting a little longer. As the woman began to not only feeling faint, the hour of evening was coming upon her, and she knew whatever had delayed the water from coming had to be something major. She had not only felt hot, tired, dizzy, she now a scream headache, but her stomache was at a point of being ill from the heat. She headed towards the house, the well, and hope to discover the reason for the delay. She gets home and her husband was no where in sight, obvious something wrong, yet what as she took a long drink of cool water and nearly drowning herself as she pour water over her to cool herself off. She looks at the house and wonders where is her husband. She enters in the house, and begins to hunt for her husband once more. He was still no where to be found. The moral don't wait on a man to quench your thirst.
If you ever been poor one tends to seek the least affordable housing. The property with the least cost, that often cost more, and a place of warmth. In the desert people seek an oasis, but often rely on the technology of man to produce water and carry water. Often landing in salt mine instead of the beach. The oasis abandon by availability of human technology, never considering what will happen if technology of man fails. Yet the poor still choose the least costly means of survival, and with or without technology, all people feel the thirst of the soul.
Lot the nephew of Abraham choose the green grass and gives Abraham dry grass and bearing desert land, but Abraham finds a oasis of faith and not wealth. Lot though it looked wonderful the land of plentiness was a land wealth, immorality, and a place without the desire for God, and no place to really raise your children, but it appearance it looked like a land of opportunity.
In Jeremiah we see Israel being offered not just exile but freedom if they just leave Israel. Meaning exile or leave when forced to leave. A land of opportunity but a land equally as sinful as Israel had become. Babylon rich in hanging gardens, beauty of wealth, was soon be conquering Israel and to force them into a place of ungodliness. A place in the need of knowledge of God with people thirsty for God. This salt of the earth, the people of faith, a location and oasis designed by God in the wilderness of dry and thirsty land for him. A place in need of a minister to preach good news. Often we are unable to see our need for just the basics in life and yet in truth, we survive in a world that is often govern by want and not need. If the government based every crisis on need and not desire, what money would they save, and what money would produce more availability to meet the real need of the people, instead of a lot of waste of red tape and bureaucratic wants of governmental officials in power. What does a gold toilet cost tax payers as the old saying maybe larger in life in truth. Yet the truth of the matter is government is often seen putting wants of military guns in enemies hands as strategic enterprising for the population war they want to fund instead of focusing on health care, well being, food, and shelter for the people in enemy territories which is far more important then handing them guns or selling them guns. What is the point. These are issues the world is plagued with and yet failing to see if a country would do this and that for its people. Instead focusing on raising better education, environmental issues and genuine care for the people of a land then desiring destruction. Instead of caring for needs of a country first and not last for negotiation of peace treaties and talks around the world. A godly message and not one of evil and destruction of lives, but production of fruit that increases good fruit back hopefully.
What is God's message today about looking at the world not as a battle field, but at the needs of the people in need of God's love and not man's revenge, but compassion. A world that needs a heart for God and not the heart of the devil. A land that wants to choose faith in God and the ways God instead of the ways of the devil. How many countries in our world that our nation has helped, desire to send aid in our disasters. Now if we are helping others, how are we helping and if we loving then how are we helping, with a godly righteousness, so when we are in drought, famine, hardship, or when a time of war is not upon us that others will send hope and extended hand of love back to us, when we are in need ourselves.
If I could say the world be better if we live godly and believe in the ways of God, our nation would be more productive and people need that come to our nation would experience hope and not war of anger. Needs are not wants and wants are definitely not needs. However our world needs God. God in Old Testament seems sometimes about war until the truth of matter about the situation comes to light. If we look at the New Testamnet and only see love and not hardship contain there we looking only at faith blindly not seeing the full picture of God's love and compassion for man even in the storms.
If you make it known to God that you are thirsty for his word, his love, his compassion, his mercy, his grace and the need of his Son, you are not going to be thirsty, but provided for by God grace of the hope only he can bring and provide. Those is seek the Lord will be abundantly blessed. Those who desire to know God will be open to his world and his truth.
Dear Heavenly Father thank you for this day, give us a thirst that only you can quench with the knowledge of who you are, the blessing of being thirsty to know you and to be with you in spirit and mind even on this earth as we walk daily in faith. Trusting in who you are to keep our roots moist with your word, and spring forth life in our branches of faith and fruit. In Jesus precious name, Amen.
