Daily Devotions:
by Christina Farris

Numbers 12:1-16 KJV
1 And Miriam and Aaron spake against Moses because of the Ethiopian woman whom he had married: for he had married an Ethiopian woman.
2 And they said, Hath the LORD indeed spoken only by Moses? hath he not spoken also by us? And the LORD heard it.
3 (Now the man Moses was very meek, above all the men which were upon the face of the earth.)
4 And the LORD spake suddenly unto Moses, and unto Aaron, and unto Miriam, Come out ye three unto the tabernacle of the congregation. And they three came out.
5 And the LORD came down in the pillar of the cloud, and stood in the door of the tabernacle, and called Aaron and Miriam: and they both came forth.
6 And he said, Hear now my words: If there be a prophet among you, I the LORD will make myself known unto him in a vision, and will speak unto him in a dream.
7 My servant Moses is not so, who is faithful in all mine house.
8 With him will I speak mouth to mouth, even apparently, and not in dark speeches; and the similitude of the LORD shall he behold: wherefore then were ye not afraid to speak against my servant Moses?
9 And the anger of the LORD was kindled against them; and he departed.
10 And the cloud departed from off the tabernacle; and, behold, Miriam became leprous, white as snow: and Aaron looked upon Miriam, and, behold, she was leprous.
11 And Aaron said unto Moses, Alas, my lord, I beseech thee, lay not the sin upon us, wherein we have done foolishly, and wherein we have sinned.
12 Let her not be as one dead, of whom the flesh is half consumed when he cometh out of his mother's womb.
13 And Moses cried unto the LORD, saying, Heal her now, O God, I beseech thee.
14 And the LORD said unto Moses, If her father had but spit in her face, should she not be ashamed seven days? let her be shut out from the camp seven days, and after that let her be received in again.
15 And Miriam was shut out from the camp seven days: and the people journeyed not till Miriam was brought in again.
16 And afterward the people removed from Hazeroth, and pitched in the wilderness of Paran.

God is clear about not only who he choses or calls but who these people are. These people have a meek heart. Poor, humble, weak and afflicted is a good description in Hebrew language of being meek. The description sometimes does not fit the leaders as described in scripture, but we must remember this is a status of the heart and not always the outward demonstration, when one has to take on certain duties. Jesus demonstrated his power, and he was consider poor, weak, humble and afflicted. In fact the shared passage below in Isaiah and Matthew mention these traits of Christ. Similiarities seen in Moses and Jesus both of being humble, poor and weak without the strength and power of God working in their life. Moses often taken the complaints of the heart aches of the people to God, for he felt he could not bear the people problems himself. It takes a good minister to say he needs God to the point he spends more time on his knees in prayer figuratively and sometimes physically to help the church and God's people. To minister to them with a heart of humility. Yet they too have to take that leadership role and demonstrate God's authority in their life to speak to the congregation as well as all people in need of God who are searching with meekness of heart.

The key verse should of been "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. Phillipians 4:13. Paul words of knowing what is was to be abased(humble), in need and weak in Spirit(speaking of Phillipians 4:12. Yet that not where we are going. We looking at Moses call in ministry and those who thought because God had spoken to them should of have the authority and power of Moses, only to be made humble before the Lord. Where is our call? Miraim and Aaron call was not the same as Moses call. They were upset with their brother for taking a Ethiopian wife. The fact these race, ethnic issues occurred in scripture is only proof even in our world today they still exist and it been thousands and thousands of years ago, and man still can't fix it, however God does his part and even this fails in regard of it needs repeating. Not in the life of Miriam or Aaron, for God corrects them, but the life of the world. Miriam would get leprosy for seven whole days before recovering. Can you imagine being in Miriam shoes and waiting on God's healing of restoration? Aaron not dealt with the same way as Miriam, perhaps his role was different in the trouble stirred up against Moses, but for whatever reason it only took Aaron to see his sister cover in leprosy to begin repenting and begging Moses to plead for him. To plead for his sister. To plead because she was his sister, the blood applied, the bloodline applied.

The filth of our garments only need a humble spirit and blood of Christ to plead for our deliverance and to receive it. The blood of Christ being life atoning element to set us free from sin and a yoke of bondage. God promised if we learned to be meek and lowly he would give us rest. That his burden was light. Interesting point I sort of made once in my thinking but I like to clarify it here. Christ told his disciple to go to the women and them their king was coming, meek and riding on an ass. Stage preparation perhaps maybe not, but it is in reference to what the Triumphal entry. Jesus though humble this one time exalt who he is as king, in demonstration of what would be understanding by the Jews as his kingship, by riding into Jerusalem on ass. Christ taught we needed to show humility, and yet he made preparations to ride into Jerusalem like a king with the power and authority to do so which was question by the religious leaders, but when the money tables got turned over they were ready to crucify Jesus. Yet the very Priest Caiaphas propheside in John that one man needed to die for the nation, because Priest wanted to exalt his own authority and power above the chosen one of God. For this reason God would allow his Son to die to raise him back up to bring liberty to the captives and opening the prison to them that are bound.

The here am I send me, might be more of the story of Moses in his early call to ministry to say Lord I think you making a mistake of calling me attitude, and yet God enables and empowers people to rise above their own inability, own poverty, their own needs, their own humbleness before him to deal with his people of faith, to preach and to teach his people, who have not yet yielded to the call of faith in their own humility, to their own knowledge of the truth of God's word.

The most humble statement I can give is when God begins a message in my heart, it maybe three to four days in coming, not saying it is always written or expressed will, but my hope is that God will use it for his glory and honor. Because I figure if it takes that long for God to teach me to piece something together God speaking to me about, then it should be written down, then it going to speak to someone else. Someone maybe struggling with their own station in life, but knowing God still wants to use them for his glory and honor. Something else the way men and women in power are chosen in the world is not the same way God choose men and women of faith to step up in leadership. Though each station in life God may call a person within a particular area because of skill, but the skill of communication may not be already there for the job and position. However the world seldom understands the godly call in your life. That must be accept as part of the ministry of faith, no matter where you go in faith. Take the call of faith in the manner of people of faith with humble and lowly heart, a person that knows what need is, and not what wealth of the world is. To take position in the world one needs to be able to take it in a worldly manner, and that not always of God.

Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for being the one to teach us what need is, so when we reach in our poverty of faith, that you will strength and grow our faith from mustard seed to a beautiful tree by your power and might and not our own. In Jesus precious name, Amen.

Continual Scripture Study: Isaiah 61:1-11 KJV
1 The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me; because the LORD hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound;
2 To proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all that mourn;
3 To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the LORD, that he might be glorified.
4 And they shall build the old wastes, they shall raise up the former desolations, and they shall repair the waste cities, the desolations of many generations.
5 And strangers shall stand and feed your flocks, and the sons of the alien shall be your plowmen and your vinedressers.
6 But ye shall be named the Priests of the LORD: men shall call you the Ministers of our God: ye shall eat the riches of the Gentiles, and in their glory shall ye boast yourselves.
7 For your shame ye shall have double; and for confusion they shall rejoice in their portion: therefore in their land they shall possess the double: everlasting joy shall be unto them.
8 For I the LORD love judgment, I hate robbery for burnt offering; and I will direct their work in truth, and I will make an everlasting covenant with them.
9 And their seed shall be known among the Gentiles, and their offspring among the people: all that see them shall acknowledge them, that they are the seed which the LORD hath blessed.
10 I will greatly rejoice in the LORD, my soul shall be joyful in my God; for he hath clothed me with the garments of salvation, he hath covered me with the robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom decketh himself with ornaments, and as a bride adorneth herself with her jewels.
11 For as the earth bringeth forth her bud, and as the garden causeth the things that are sown in it to spring forth; so the Lord GOD will cause righteousness and praise to spring forth before all the nations.

Matthew 11:29 KJV
29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.

Matthew 21:5 KJV
5 Tell ye the daughter of Sion, Behold, thy King cometh unto thee, meek, and sitting upon an ass, and a colt the foal of an ass.

1 Peter 3:3-4 KJV
3 Whose adorning let it not be that outward adorning of plaiting the hair, and of wearing of gold, or of putting on of apparel;
4 But let it be the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price.
