1 That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, of the Word of life;
2 (For the life was manifested, and we have seen it, and bear witness, and shew unto you that eternal life, which was with the Father, and was manifested unto us;)
3 That which we have seen and heard declare we unto you, that ye also may have fellowship with us: and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ.
4 And these things write we unto you, that your joy may be full.
5 This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.
6 If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth:
7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.
8 If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.
9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
10 If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us. One of the most sensitive sensations is the since of touch. Touch allows even blind to know the reality of something is in front of them or not. Walk to the edge of a cliff, can you see it is a cliff if you are blind, the only thing you know is there nothing before that you can feel with the thump of a cane. Now a person not blind can see the vast valley below, the crevices in rocks and maybe even how steep the grade to the valley floor is, whether it straight down or a walk down a hill is all it will take to get to the valley below. The human sense of touch is very important, it tells us much of the reality is what is before us. Our eyes can produce a mirage of water, when thirsty that does not exist. The mind does not understanding the need of reality only the wishful thinking and desire to have out ways. The reality of a mirage of well or oasis in the desert might seem real until one taste the sand in one's mouth. The sense of touch making the truth real.
John declares in the first few verse of seeing Christ the Word of life and had handle it. The reality of grabbing hold of Jesus in the flesh after his death, and resurrection. He not only seen but what might of seemed like apparition, wishful thinking(mirage or halucination) was real because he held Jesus with his hands, and had touch him knowing Jesus reality was right before him. He not only seen Christ but he touch the Lord. If you ever had vision of Christ and never touch him no clue if the vision is real, but if you grab hold and touched him the reality of his presence is real. Mary(Jesus' mother) seen angel, Samson's mother and father had a visitor/angel from the Lord, and even Abraham had the Lord visit him, but not one of these ever said they felt the angel, they did not feel the messenger of the Lord but only saw the angel of the Lord, or the Lord himself. Now if you know the verse that says no one has seen the Lord at anytime, one might ask how is it possible to see God, and the answer is God is Spirit. And Spirit is not something that tangible by the sense of touch but by knowledge of God, by knowledge of him dwelling in us teaching us by his Spirit about right and even wrong. The knowledge of his presence within the heart and soul upon receiving him as Savior and Lord. Christ in the flesh is a messenger/Messiah from God but is also God in human flesh and then incorruptible flesh as the only begotten Son of living God.
John knew what it was to phyiscally hold Jesus and to know his reality was before him, perhaps a hand shake or a hug/embrace, holding of the feet for worship coming from the empty tomb when Christ was risen and giving them instruction to meet him in Galilee. His reality was now to share the Gospel of Jesus because he had touch him and beheld him with his eyes, his hands and heard him with his ears. Imagine being healed by the touch of God's Spirit knowing you are healed, but you yourself may of not felt a thing, or may of felt the Spirit touch causing a sensation in the body. The witness of this touch would be healing in some form or fashion. Upon salvation there is often a change in a person and sometimes it takes time or event he testimony of the Spirit that follows a believer to those around them. Yet the work in progress begins with salvation. It begins with the knowledge that all have sinned against God. That our sin is disobedience against God and His Son/word. No One obey God all the time. Sometimes what we do is in opposition to God. When we admit our guilt of this he is faithful to forgive us of our sin. When we repent of sin he forgives us. It the act of unrepentance that cost us unforgiveness.
When we ask Jesus to be Lord or our life, we asking him to be our Savior, and director of our life. Submitting our will to God and to follow his Word and the word of the world. There times we do slip and fall, but God is faithful to forgive us when we admit fault not when we try and cover it up.
Dear Heavenly Father, as those reading that know how your salvation but desire to know your deliverance from sin and the mercy and knowledge of your forgiveness, we ask you into our hearts and receive you as Lord and Savior right now. Know you are just to forgive our sin when we confess it. In Jesus precious name, Amen. If you prayed with me and meant it you received Christ as Lord today and asked him to forgive you of all your sins, God and sin no more or attempt to following after God's word and direction of Christ and His Spirit in your heart.
Thanksgiving Day 7: Thank you for the gift not only of Salvation but those that are witness of Christ and Also Christ's Spirit took time to be a witness to us.
