Emphasing Friendship

Daily Devotions:
by Christina Farris

Proverbs 27:1-27 KJV
1 Boast not thyself of to morrow; for thou knowest not what a day may bring forth.
2 Let another man praise thee, and not thine own mouth; a stranger, and not thine own lips.
3 A stone is heavy, and the sand weighty; but a fool's wrath is heavier than them both.
4 Wrath is cruel, and anger is outrageous; but who is able to stand before envy?
5 Open rebuke is better than secret love.

Brag about abilities, tomorrow you may have none. How many get injured on a job that they love, only to no longer to be able to do the work they once loved. Dive off a cliff, or high dive by old age you might be doing that again. Of course there is an exception to every rule. I can not remember who it was I seen pictures of his sky diving with assistance in old age. However it was quite a feat for his age, not alone to think of that adrenalin rush. Go ice skating or roller blading as a kid, can you still do that today as adult? Some will say sure and brake a hip when they try, others will be successful still. There many things we boast of ability today and loose tomorrow and that my point. You do know what tomoor will hold. Let someone brag about your feat, and not your own mouth. Stones are heavy and a bag of sand is heavy but fool's anger can cause much turmoil and weight more then either. What does that mean it means that rumor mill of the fool's anger will rage for a time by people, never giving thought to how it might effect the individual that is about and more likely not true. Better to be told enough then to have a secret love that you can not speak of. They both burn the heart.

6 Faithful are the wounds of a friend; but the kisses of an enemy are deceitful.
7 The full soul loatheth an honeycomb; but to the hungry soul every bitter thing is sweet.
8 As a bird that wandereth from her nest, so is a man that wandereth from his place.

Friends are still faithful even when hurt, but the kiss of enemy is betrayal. Judas kissed Jesus to betray him in the garden after the last supper of Jesus. When on is hunger no one cares what it taste like and when one is full or satified only the sweet honey will do. God's word when full upon it sometimes one only wants to hear the good things in the word of God, and when one is no longer full, even the judgment of God is heard. A bird and a man have one thing in common they both wander in search of food, or nesting material to build a house. Each working all day long to prove the bases of their needs. Wandering about in search of the best means possible to make a proper home and provide food on the table for their family.

9 Ointment and perfume rejoice the heart: so doth the sweetness of a man's friend by hearty counsel.
10 Thine own friend, and thy father's friend, forsake not; neither go into thy brother's house in the day of thy calamity: for better is a neighbour that is near than a brother far off.

The sweetness of friend and sound advice are pleasent to the soul, and smells sweet to the soul. Don't forsake the friends of one's father and thy neighbors to go in search of help from a brother that lives far away. Think on this to seek distant help what kind of trouble are you in, or what kind of neighbors do you have that will not help.

11 My son, be wise, and make my heart glad, that I may answer him that reproacheth me. 12 A prudent man foreseeth the evil, and hideth himself; but the simple pass on, and are punished.
13 Take his garment that is surety for a stranger, and take a pledge of him for a strange woman.
14 He that blesseth his friend with a loud voice, rising early in the morning, it shall be counted a curse to him.

How many like to be woken by a loud voice, friend or family, it matters not. It the worse alarm coming from the distant room. I rather be woken by a clock or God's timing of the hour of praise and worship in the night then the call of even my husband. It can make a person grouchy and irritable, no better to set your own time frame of rising and sleeping. To think in Proverbs 27:14 he woke him with blessing. but it feels more like curse.

15 A continual dropping in a very rainy day and a contentious woman are alike. 16 Whosoever hideth her hideth the wind, and the ointment of his right hand, which bewrayeth itself.
17 Iron sharpeneth iron; so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend.
18 Whoso keepeth the fig tree shall eat the fruit thereof: so he that waiteth on his master shall be honoured.
19 As in water face answereth to face, so the heart of man to man.

If iron sharpens iron, so does friend sharpen the truthfulness of his friend. Helps him with the truth and facts of the matter. How important is friendship face to face and to hear the heart of each other face to face. We all miss having that friend on friend connection when isolated for while. It always good to see others.

20 Hell and destruction are never full; so the eyes of man are never satisfied.
21 As the fining pot for silver, and the furnace for gold; so is a man to his praise.
22 Though thou shouldest bray a fool in a mortar among wheat with a pestle, yet will not his foolishness depart from him.

Mans are never satisfied, why because hell and destruction are never full, then why is man only looking for these things to be full. Perhaps because when hell and destruction is done, there is no more turmoil, after all heaven will have come. Something to think about.

23 Be thou diligent to know the state of thy flocks, and look well to thy herds.
24 For riches are not for ever: and doth the crown endure to every generation?
25 The hay appeareth, and the tender grass sheweth itself, and herbs of the mountains are gathered.
26 The lambs are for thy clothing, and the goats are the price of the field.
27 And thou shalt have goats' milk enough for thy food, for the food of thy household, and for the maintenance for thy maidens.

Solomon ends his proverb with the same principal of the beginning theme of survival in verse 8, those that tend sheep and goats for clothing, as well as milk and food, and tending to the wives of a man. Man wandering about in the field tending his herd, for survival, and taking care of his family just like a bird tending to his nest. Yet through the proverb comes that issue of talking about friends and the closeness and value of friendship and the curse of friendship as well. Yet we see the betrayal of a thought to be friend in Judas at the garden, a warning of friendship that is not true friendship. Friendship is far different then friendship within the family. Why perhaps it is because the man is in need of friendship outside the home to help encourage and build his self esteem. Did Solomon with all his wives need friends or did he need self control.

What the point of this proverb perhaps the acknowledge of wisdom of choosing friends and not foolish friends, but ones wise with making strong friendship that would build, strength and encourage. These friendship were the same as the perfume of his wives, and attraction to the soul.

What are craving friendship, and family. All take take time to develop but to find strong ties that bind others together. God wants to build friendships around us and being our chief friendship, but not our only friendship. God wants us to build solid family on the foundation of his principals of wisdom. One of the closes friendship recorded in scripture in Jonathan and David, but the very first friendship in regards to God goes to Abraham. What we must remember is God revealed much to Abraham his friend. If God calls us friend how much more will he provide for us even in times of tribulation? Think for a moment if we are not only his children but his friend, his provision is great. Yet do we have the faith to trust in God no matter our circumstances? It is a hard journey of faith, yet God does not put on us no more then we can bear.

Dear Heavenly Father, help each of us to build strong unity of family and frienship with those around us. In Jesus precious name, Amen.

Continual Scripture Study: 1 Samuel 18:1-4 KJV
1 And it came to pass, when he had made an end of speaking unto Saul, that the soul of Jonathan was knit with the soul of David, and Jonathan loved him as his own soul.
2 And Saul took him that day, and would let him go no more home to his father's house.
3 Then Jonathan and David made a covenant, because he loved him as his own soul.
4 And Jonathan stripped himself of the robe that was upon him, and gave it to David, and his garments, even to his sword, and to his bow, and to his girdle.
