Daily Devotions:
by Christina Farris

Proverbs 26:1-28 KJV
1 As snow in summer, and as rain in harvest, so honour is not seemly for a fool.
2 As the bird by wandering, as the swallow by flying, so the curse causeless shall not come.
3 A whip for the horse, a bridle for the ass, and a rod for the fool's back.
4 Answer not a fool according to his folly, lest thou also be like unto him.
5 Answer a fool according to his folly, lest he be wise in his own conceit.
6 He that sendeth a message by the hand of a fool cutteth off the feet, and drinketh damage.
7 The legs of the lame are not equal: so is a parable in the mouth of fools.
8 As he that bindeth a stone in a sling, so is he that giveth honour to a fool.
9 As a thorn goeth up into the hand of a drunkard, so is a parable in the mouth of fools.
10 The great God that formed all things both rewardeth the fool, and rewardeth transgressors.
11 As a dog returneth to his vomit, so a fool returneth to his folly.
12 Seest thou a man wise in his own conceit? there is more hope of a fool than of him.

A fool/arrogant person is not one to be honor is compared to weather being out of sink with the natural fury of it all. In the mountains it not so unusual to have snow in winter. Yet I personally never seen it that cold here in summer, but my husband tells a tale of it being up to his knees coming home from the store in the middle of July. Yet rain in harvest causes straw and hay to mildew and sinking up to the knee in mud in the garden bed. The fool is one that speaks without thinking and boastful of his uncommonly success. His arrogant nature or stupid actions causing him more stupidity. The old saying there no stupid questions, but I have heard a few in my life time. Is the arrogant of the question that needs not repeating or a response the same as fool speaking without rhyme or reason, because it common sense or knowledge in general. No it is about the fool doing the obvious mistake, twisting the natural course to unnatural, abnormal that causes destruction instead of improvement. It like snow destruction in summer and rain in harvest, makes no sense to those farming, but it does to God for whatever reason God does not allow a successful year to exist for the farmer.

I planted a crop that did not grow and wonder why it did not grow. Bad seed, to much rain, not the right soil, to much fertilizer maybe to much of many things. Yet that year was a hard financial year, the garden a necessity. What I found is God using it to teach me something much needed for survival, a different way of doing things that all could try if they desire to learn to freeze a meal or two.

What the point many people learn to do some things without a coach and others learn to do it by another example, some know it because grandparents, parents did it. Knowledge gained. My garden died or produce, but God took what I had and help me create plenty for the winter.

If we look at things from our own arrogance we find it lacking ability or strength in due time, yet when we say Lord I am depending on you for supply and wait on his supply, he knows the need. He knows the need of work, the need of learning to just praise the Lord, the duty of faith looking foolish, only finding the grace and supply by God's hand.

Hoping never to learn what it means for a dog to turn to his own vomit, after getting a new fur baby the other day and he is only three years old. See the truth of the matter dogs often return to their own vomit, why because a dog has no way to clean up his messes. If you watch a cat in the litter box, he double scratches the box even when he does not cover his mess. Why because he returns and smells the odor, and knows it is not clean.

The fool tells a dirty joke, fails to deliver a message to the person it is for, but has no trouble making others look foolish and pointing out their mistakes. His boastful arrogant ways only demonstrate his folly. It is better for someone to see another ability then to only hear the boastfulness of their words.

13 The slothful man saith, There is a lion in the way; a lion is in the streets.
14 As the door turneth upon his hinges, so doth the slothful upon his bed.
15 The slothful hideth his hand in his bosom; it grieveth him to bring it again to his mouth.
16 The sluggard is wiser in his own conceit than seven men that can render a reason.
17 He that passeth by, and meddleth with strife belonging not to him, is like one that taketh a dog by the ears.
18 As a mad man who casteth firebrands, arrows, and death,
19 So is the man that deceiveth his neighbour, and saith, Am not I in sport?
20 Where no wood is, there the fire goeth out: so where there is no talebearer, the strife ceaseth.
21 As coals are to burning coals, and wood to fire; so is a contentious man to kindle strife.
22 The words of a talebearer are as wounds, and they go down into the innermost parts of the belly.
23 Burning lips and a wicked heart are like a potsherd covered with silver dross.
24 He that hateth dissembleth with his lips, and layeth up deceit within him;
25 When he speaketh fair, believe him not: for there are seven abominations in his heart.
26 Whose hatred is covered by deceit, his wickedness shall be shewed before the whole congregation.
27 Whoso diggeth a pit shall fall therein: and he that rolleth a stone, it will return upon him.
28 A lying tongue hateth those that are afflicted by it; and a flattering mouth worketh ruin.

Why is Solomon warning others of foolish people, lazy people, mad men and so forth. He is warning to keep people away from those that act in evil ways, so it does not reproduce more folly, more laziness and mad people in response to the already crazy world in which we live. All these things lead to destruction. Something to think on how many of us are arrogant at times, lazy about something and sometimes a bit foolish.. What does laziness do, it bring about physical weakness, cause one to be late and so forth. Yet life goes on, and those that want to achieve do so, whether in their arrogants or in their folly, or in their moral concept of righteousness by faith, without realizing God is wanting to tear these things from our life and allow us to rely on him. Paul speaks about our own wisdom in I Corinthians 1:19-26 and compares it to the foolishnesss of God being stronger then men and God's weakness stronger then men. God has used the foolish things of this world to confound the wise. God has used the weak things of this world to confound the strong. Meaning despite what we see has being correct, for example King David being the youngest of Jesse children, to be king, and his weaknees of a sling shot to take down a giant, when the king had swords and spears to battle with. God taking the impossible to make it possible. To show us his glory and honor by simplest means possible and imaginable. Next you read Proverbs 26 consider all this folly, weakness and arrogants is for a purpose if it is God's weakness, arrogants, and folly. God's wisdom can not compare to our own. God's wisdom is greater then all our wisdom combined.

Dear Heavenly Father help us to rely on you by faith and not in arrogants of our own ability, strength or desires. In Jesus precious name, Amen.

Continual Scripture Study: 1 Corinthians 1:19-31 KJV
19 For it is written, I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and will bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent.
20 Where is the wise? where is the scribe? where is the disputer of this world? hath not God made foolish the wisdom of this world?
21 For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe.
22 For the Jews require a sign, and the Greeks seek after wisdom:
23 But we preach Christ crucified, unto the Jews a stumblingblock, and unto the Greeks foolishness;
24 But unto them which are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God.
25 Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men; and the weakness of God is stronger than men.
26 For ye see your calling, brethren, how that not many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called:
27 But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty;
28 And base things of the world, and things which are despised, hath God chosen, yea, and things which are not, to bring to nought things that are:
29 That no flesh should glory in his presence.
30 But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption:
31 That, according as it is written, He that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord.
