Daily Devotions:
by Christina Farris

Proverbs 13:1-25 KJV
1 A wise son heareth his father's instruction: but a scorner heareth not rebuke.
2 A man shall eat good by the fruit of his mouth: but the soul of the transgressors shall eat violence.
3 He that keepeth his mouth keepeth his life: but he that openeth wide his lips shall have destruction.

A wise son heareth his father's instruction, but the one that hears not the rebuke scorns/hates his fathers. There are times in our world to heed someone advice is more folly then instruction especially if a father brings a child to wrath. (Ephesians 6:4) We have to ask what is the situation and what is the problem.

4 The soul of the sluggard desireth, and hath nothing: but the soul of the diligent shall be made fat.
5 A righteous man hateth lying: but a wicked man is loathsome, and cometh to shame.

Those that are lazy in their faith will not have a fat soul. What are they talking about if you practice you faith and not just speak your faith, or place it on a shelf you grow with fruit of from the Spirit of God. Kind of like tomato plants in mid summer over growing yield as many round tomatoes ripe for plucking. Branches sometimes a little over loaded, but when they ready God will pick them and use the fruit from the tomato vine. See the righteous man hates rotten fruit, he wants his life to produce the Spirit of love, hope and faith to share with others in need of love, hope and faith. Wicked care nothing about sharing their faith.

6 Righteousness keepeth him that is upright in the way: but wickedness overthroweth the sinner.
7 There is that maketh himself rich, yet hath nothing: there is that maketh himself poor, yet hath great riches.
8 The ransom of a man's life are his riches: but the poor heareth not rebuke.
9 The light of the righteous rejoiceth: but the lamp of the wicked shall be put out.

Yes a lot of repetition in Proverbs that why a missionary once advised some young girls that to read a Psalms and Proverb a day would help in their spiritual well being. Why do we need the repetition of what the righteous will inherit and what the wickedness will not gain for eternity? Simply to remind the righteous of the hope we have in faith to keep striving in good works and deeds, and the hope that if the sinner/wicked hear the words of faith they will repent and follow in faith the word of God. The wicked darkness will be put out.

10 Only by pride cometh contention: but with the well advised is wisdom.
11 Wealth gotten by vanity shall be diminished: but he that gathereth by labour shall increase.
12 Hope deferred maketh the heart sick: but when the desire cometh, it is a tree of life. 13 Whoso despiseth the word shall be destroyed: but he that feareth the commandment shall be rewarded.
14 The law of the wise is a fountain of life, to depart from the snares of death.
15 Good understanding giveth favour: but the way of transgressors is hard.
16 Every prudent man dealeth with knowledge: but a fool layeth open his folly.

The law of the wise is a fountain of life, meaning it is overflowing with good things that is continual. Wisdom is not something to sneer at but something to gain hope.

17 A wicked messenger falleth into mischief: but a faithful ambassador is health.
18 Poverty and shame shall be to him that refuseth instruction: but he that regardeth reproof shall be honoured.
19 The desire accomplished is sweet to the soul: but it is abomination to fools to depart from evil.
20 He that walketh with wise men shall be wise: but a companion of fools shall be destroyed.
21 Evil pursueth sinners: but to the righteous good shall be repayed.

No one wants evil person to bring them a message but only those who are ambassadors of well being/health. You want good teachers of faith that exercise their faith. No teacher is perfect and neither is any minister. The real young ministers have yet to get their feet wet and the old ones still make those mistakes with out meaning to, or just having bad day. Yet what the point, our humanity needs to reflect what we teach. Yet what we teach is sometimes in our actions and what we say.

22 A good man leaveth an inheritance to his children's children: and the wealth of the sinner is laid up for the just.
23 Much food is in the tillage of the poor: but there is that is destroyed for want of judgment.
24 He that spareth his rod hateth his son: but he that loveth him chasteneth him betimes.
25 The righteous eateth to the satisfying of his soul: but the belly of the wicked shall want.

A good father leaves his children an inheritance, but that might not be so. A poor one leaves maybe his faith with his children, when he taught them about the Lord, but as far as material and tangible possession it might not be so. I was listening to a minister speak how in their early ministry, their biggest concerns were food, shelter and the need for air conditioner, and now he was worrying about looking at his bank account whether they be enough. His wife took him around the house and she said you see what God is providing, a place to sleep, food in the cupboard and a roof over your head and look even AC. Now with that in mind, the point is many of us have experience where we lacked in provisions, been through storms, and yet God has provided time and time again. That is the type of faith you want to pass on to your children, to your grandchildren and your friends. That is the inheritance you want to be able to pass on.

There time of instruction of parents that are wise and welcoming, it also time of correction, but it when God corrects his children. He does so, that each of his children know his love for them and how he desires to remain on the right path. Something maybe hard grasp but in truth the righteous prevails because they continue to desire to live and strive in faith even when they fail. Correction is to yank us back into the right direction.

Dear Heavenly Father thank you that your word is a fountain of life to be given freely to all that will receive it. In Jesus precious name, Amen.

Continual Scripture Study: Revelation 21:6-8 KJV
6 And he said unto me, It is done. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give unto him that is athirst of the fountain of the water of life freely.
7 He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son.
8 But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.
