Daily Devotions:
by Christina Farris

Proverbs 10:1-32 KJV
1 The proverbs of Solomon. A wise son maketh a glad father: but a foolish son is the heaviness of his mother.
2 Treasures of wickedness profit nothing: but righteousness delivereth from death.
3 The LORD will not suffer the soul of the righteous to famish: but he casteth away the substance of the wicked.

Somethings are just self explanatory this morning when reading Proverbs 10, but other things may not be. Treasure of the wickedness profit nothing, but righteousness are delivered from death. Those of faith soul will not face famine, because he cast away the food of the wicked. What is Solomon talking about is the people of faith do not starve from lack of food faith, but the wicked profit not or receive food for survival because what they build is built for destruction. If we look at the world with a left and right hemisphere and at night it covers half the earth only for the other half be full of light. Faith against wickedness is the same as how light is crossing our earth. There may seem to be a gray shadowing area that part is when a person is sort of wanting only light but still dabbling in potential darkeness/wickedness. God only works with light and darkedness will one day be destroyed.

Most of us understand the concept of evil and good but not many can wrap our head around the idea of us not having a choice anymore, but it only being God's way. Most of us live in a Solomon state of mine in our world. We put God on a shelf til Sunday morning, only to take our Bibles and go to church on Sunday to only return the book to the shelf. We desire the ways of God but we not ready to live up to what that truly means. Even if we testify and strive to live for God their are times God still on a shelf and not in the things we do. Now no one has to preach 24/7, we have to work to live and we have to do things to survive, but in truth do we allow God to be a part of what we do as teaching us how to be more loving or Christ centered in what we do and say, despite what the world around us is speaking.

4 He becometh poor that dealeth with a slack hand: but the hand of the diligent maketh rich.
5 He that gathereth in summer is a wise son: but he that sleepeth in harvest is a son that causeth shame.

Is your proverty because unwillingness to work or inability to work? Some have to decide which is for themselves, but a richman toiled all day long in his work. In truth we have to ask are we working while we are able to work, are we working while we can? The ant stores aways his food for winter, and a bird looks for food all winter long. What is the point those on social security have worked many hours to receive it, and those that get a state handout have not worked enough hours to gain their social security for one reason or another. Did what the government plan help the elderly survive in their golden years unto death, did it help the disabled. Before social security the elderly had to hope they saved enough and the care of their children in old age. Disabled were the same type of burden as the elderly, yet some disabled still found they could help even if they could not pull a full shift of work. Errand running, taking people places, doing some of the work no one else had time to do, but needed doing, so they earned their keep in their family though unable to do a full days work.

6 Blessings are upon the head of the just: but violence covereth the mouth of the wicked.
7 The memory of the just is blessed: but the name of the wicked shall rot.
8 The wise in heart will receive commandments: but a prating fool shall fall.
9 He that walketh uprightly walketh surely: but he that perverteth his ways shall be known.
10 He that winketh with the eye causeth sorrow: but a prating fool shall fall.
11 The mouth of a righteous man is a well of life: but violence covereth the mouth of the wicked.
12 Hatred stirreth up strifes: but love covereth all sins.
13 In the lips of him that hath understanding wisdom is found: but a rod is for the back of him that is void of understanding.
14 Wise men lay up knowledge: but the mouth of the foolish is near destruction.
15 The rich man's wealth is his strong city: the destruction of the poor is their poverty.
16 The labour of the righteous tendeth to life: the fruit of the wicked to sin.

Today our society tries hard to justify sin, what I mean they make sin houseable or respectable. Couples of same sex marriages because acceptable in society because they work, they do live respectable lives despite their flaw of marrying same sex. God says leave them alone I turned them over to their sin(Romans 1:17-end of chapter.) So I leave the issue alone of the corruption from God's original design for mankind knowing it too will passaway. Yet I sit not in judgment but look at how easy we ignore the word of God on issues because they look respectful. The criminal mind of the business world working to gain money that was done without respect is maybe a better place to pick at. It is the drug lords of society that now drive limos and build towers of wealth, only for their lives to come to a crashing halt. We justify things by the appearance that this maybe okay because they are rich and we are not. No we can not justify it that way. We must understand God allows evil to rise and that evil puts on a face mask of respectability to deceive the nation. Those that know not God's word may not grasp the concept of these things happening in their life time as long as the wicked are reigning, but a time of jubilee and the time of God's grace will flourish. God allows the wolf in sheep clothing for a long period of time before he destroys sometimes. Yet sin will one day be destroyed completely. The ability to disobey God will not last.

17 He is in the way of life that keepeth instruction: but he that refuseth reproof erreth.
18 He that hideth hatred with lying lips, and he that uttereth a slander, is a fool.
19 In the multitude of words there wanteth not sin: but he that refraineth his lips is wise.
20 The tongue of the just is as choice silver: the heart of the wicked is little worth.
21 The lips of the righteous feed many: but fools die for want of wisdom.
22 The blessing of the LORD, it maketh rich, and he addeth no sorrow with it.
23 It is as sport to a fool to do mischief: but a man of understanding hath wisdom.

A person going in the right direction of life does to things follows instruction and heeds reproof of mistakes. Just because you make a mistake, it in itself is wrong, but how do you handle the error. The tongue of the just is worth money, and the heart of the wicked have little worth, meaning the just have value where the wicked advice does not. Yet the wicked might for a time survive on lies, and half truths, their ways will not last. Abiding in the ways of righteous does not mean you might not survive in the world we in, but you have the eternal hope of all eternity through Christ. Justification coming not only by our faith, but living out our faith, though our works will not save us for salvation is a free gift from God to all that believe and receive him as Lord.

24 The fear of the wicked, it shall come upon him: but the desire of the righteous shall be granted.
25 As the whirlwind passeth, so is the wicked no more: but the righteous is an everlasting foundation.

How many storms wipe away the wicked from the earth, and how many find God in the middle of clamity. Anyone that calls on the name of the Lord will be saved. As the tornado blows through some learn the truth of the verse when they walk out of a storm, and others did not that were right beside them. While other dying and receive salvation at the time of death, God see the heart of man. Yet the wicked still perish for eternity. Eternity is a long time.

26 As vinegar to the teeth, and as smoke to the eyes, so is the sluggard to them that send him.
27 The fear of the LORD prolongeth days: but the years of the wicked shall be shortened.
28 The hope of the righteous shall be gladness: but the expectation of the wicked shall perish.
29 The way of the LORD is strength to the upright: but destruction shall be to the workers of iniquity.
30 The righteous shall never be removed: but the wicked shall not inhabit the earth.
31 The mouth of the just bringeth forth wisdom: but the froward tongue shall be cut out.
32 The lips of the righteous know what is acceptable: but the mouth of the wicked speaketh frowardness.

Vinegar does not taste good and smoke in the eyes cause them to be irritated, and so the sluggard/slowpoke is often aggravating to those that wait on him that slower then them. There are times when driving down the road one is moving so fast, yet there are times when one is in a hurry that one might feel they can out run the car, but in truth you can not. To have patience with someone that slower then you is like remaining in the car instead of trying to out run the car. Because to get out of the car would be foolish, the car would beat you. Running the race with God is not taking the short cut the devil just showed you. It is taking the route that might seem longer then the short cut of the devil, to continue foreward with God. Yet we promised long life. Take the way of the devil and the road is not longer, but the ways is of destruction.

Watching Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and old classic. The car goes off the ledge only to the surprise of the children it did not crash but the car begins to fly. The leap of faith is much like the Chitty Chitty Bang Bang car that leaps, with all the equipment to keep it flying. See when one has God on their side, the car is not going without wings to keep from crashing, it going with wings to soar for God. First thing that car has is faith, but it is the fruits of the Spirit that God is able to keep the car soaring.

The point being read the Proverbs think on God's word and keep your mouth from evil, keep your steps from evil, keep yourself away from wickedness. Choose God's way and follow the path of Christ Jesus. We are created as believers for eternity by God's power and not our own. Let us climb aboard for the ride and let Christ be our copilot in our life.

Dear Heavenly Father, give us strength to obey your word. To rely on Christ Jesus to keep our feet from slipping as we obey your word.. In Jesus precious name, Amen.

18 And the Lord shall deliver me from every evil work, and will preserve me unto his heavenly kingdom: to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.
