Wisdom Is The Principal Of Understanding 05/04/2021
Daily Devotions: by Christina FarrisProverbs 4:1-27 KJV
1 Hear, ye children, the instruction of a father, and attend to know understanding.
2 For I give you good doctrine, forsake ye not my law.
3 For I was my father's son, tender and only beloved in the sight of my mother.
4 He taught me also, and said unto me, Let thine heart retain my words: keep my commandments, and live.
5 Get wisdom, get understanding: forget it not; neither decline from the words of my mouth.
6 Forsake her not, and she shall preserve thee: love her, and she shall keep thee.
7 Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding.
8 Exalt her, and she shall promote thee: she shall bring thee to honour, when thou dost embrace her.
9 She shall give to thine head an ornament of grace: a crown of glory shall she deliver to thee.
10 Hear, O my son, and receive my sayings; and the years of thy life shall be many.
11 I have taught thee in the way of wisdom; I have led thee in right paths.
12 When thou goest, thy steps shall not be straitened; and when thou runnest, thou shalt not stumble.
13 Take fast hold of instruction; let her not go: keep her; for she is thy life.
14 Enter not into the path of the wicked, and go not in the way of evil men.
15 Avoid it, pass not by it, turn from it, and pass away.
16 For they sleep not, except they have done mischief; and their sleep is taken away, unless they cause some to fall.
17 For they eat the bread of wickedness, and drink the wine of violence.
18 But the path of the just is as the shining light, that shineth more and more unto the perfect day.
19 The way of the wicked is as darkness: they know not at what they stumble.
20 My son, attend to my words; incline thine ear unto my sayings.
21 Let them not depart from thine eyes; keep them in the midst of thine heart.
22 For they are life unto those that find them, and health to all their flesh.
23 Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.
24 Put away from thee a froward mouth, and perverse lips put far from thee.
25 Let thine eyes look right on, and let thine eyelids look straight before thee.
26 Ponder the path of thy feet, and let all thy ways be established.
27 Turn not to the right hand nor to the left: remove thy foot from evil.
If one does a little research, one can learn how Solomon spoke words of wisdom but with understanding he did not himself necessarily follow it. Solomon was given a heart of wisdom from the Lord. It heart was not always his outward action. Today man still struggles with the inward heart being not what it should be outwardly. God in his mercy helped Solomon to becoming a King of wisdom. Now imagine as a child Solomon understood as a child, but Solomon is ruling a nation with childlike knowledge, and yet he is wise beyond his years and people notice. What is child like knowledge but the absent of wisdom from experience. Experience life can add a multiple of life lessons to the table if one follows God's word. King Solomon would not have these life lessons when he first began to rule. His wisdom would be in judgment from above. I can almost picture King David as being more of the instructor to King Solomon then Solomon to his children. The reason being is David was more apt to following God, though there was sin even in his life. King David was noted for trusting in God. In the proverbs we find Solomon continuing to endorsement the instructions of parents, his father and mother both having sound doctrine, and not forsake the laws of of God. David would of known the value of not forsaking the laws of God because he was a man of repentance. He also would know of eternal life through faith and obedience of God's laws. Obedience is only because of our love for God, yet to be doer we have to learn to follow God's rule and instructions. You and I have wisdom but do we have understanding for wisdom and undesranding to go together like peanut butter and jelly/banana. To have the principal of wisdom is to understand at the point of knowledge of what is truth. Wisdom in this chapter is still being seen as a woman. Continue instruction of wisdom being the root of knowledge to gain understanding of right and wrong. If you follow wisdom, you follow the straight and narrow path. we are to take hold of the instruction of wisdom and follow it.
If you ever try and walk a chalk line and are totally sobber, you will know you might as well be drunk if you have no balance or coordination. The problem with chalk line to test soberiety. Some drunks if not totally drunk can still walk it and touch their nose at the same time. What is my point by this analogy? King Solomon though in gross sin of many foreign wives still had a wise heart. His since of balance in his own life went out when he failed to follow the instructions of God and still married foreign wives. His personal life was a struggling acrobatic act, between palace life and home life and some of this even crisis crossing from public to private. Yet he was walking with the knowledge of wisdom, and yet still very seeped in the inability to obey the wisdom once he received and understood it. We often glorify the good we see and never speak of the evil we understand about Solomon because he was the wisest king Israel ever had.
Are we following the ways of wisdom or living like Solomon? I have to ask myself these question too. Do we have understanding of wisdom without obedience to wisdom. If wisdom is of God why is our feet not cleansed from mud and grim as we walk the earth. It has to do with experience in life. How many things did we understand as a child not to do but later in life did them for one reason or another? One takes a drive education class and know all the rules, pass the test and then break law. I smile and say to myself that the example of Solomon. He heard all the instructions from God and from his father and mother, and yet the warning not to do something still happened in his life.
Until the instruction is not only received but obeyed the wisdom is only the words of truth, and become no better then Adam and Eve, Cain, King David, Moses(when he hit the rock twice) and Gideon testing God. We desire the forbidden fruit called sin more the actions related to the wisdom we understand and know. Yet God wisdom outweighs man because of his heart of wisdom that he also gave to Solomon in his anointing as king. God knew of our inability to obey his wisdom to the point he sends his own son to die in our place. To pay the price for our inability to live up to wisdom from Him.
Our sin is foolishness and folly. It is the opposite of God's instruction to mankind, and the opposite of truth. To see truth for what it is. Give you example if the stimulus package continue to help the people in times of hardship, what party truly tried to prevent the stimulus package. Yet it takes both parties to get it passed, and so how did your congressmen vote? Was the insurrection folly, or really downfall of blind eyes. President Trump refused to sign, Biden is signing. How will it effect our nation economics? Time will tell the truth on all these things. Raise increase means prices will go up and poor people will be more in proverty then before possibly. The point wisdom means with prices going up, it also means people spend less, but business have to recover pay increase. It is a roller coaster of problems, economic stimulus package is suppose to offset these problems. It really not cov19 recovery plan, it how to keep our land functioning without loosing economic shutdown with increases. It is walking the chalkline of potential disaster but it still might be the only solution to the problem.
Let's say the stimulus package was like government using credit that they only hope be repaid with economics increase, but the problem is what if the economic does not increase because people are not willing to spend more then normal. No extra spending and less spending defeat the plan and government not paid back. It happens when people get to far in credit card debt too. Would a simple economic recovery package help, only if that is used to change the credit/economic debt. The question then occurs is our country strong enough financially to handle all this. How many recessions does it take during which time period and which party. It a balancing act with each step either straight and narrow or crossing over to find oneself no longer able to keep the sin a secret. The economic credit not being repaid because of less spending by the people.
Solomon wisdom was seen by the world and all the countries that surrounded him, but so was his sin. His sin became an issue and God talked to him about it. No one knows if Solomon repented or not. We know God dealt with the problem. Peter walking on water looking to Jesus, until he begins to sink because he looking at those noisy waves and had to look to see what that was all about. He knew the waves were there but he had to look away long enough to understand that all he need to do was keep focused on Jesus.
Dear Heavenly Father, the wisdom you show your children is often becomes our sin, not because we do not desire to obey, but our humanity fails us to obey. Our heart may say obey you Lord and walk the path of true righteousness, but we are often looking at the tightrope and seeing the ravine below and not understanding that Jesus is our safety net, Your word, your Son, our faith, when we fail to focus on you, and your still there to pick us up and put us on the right path if we will listen to you. Help us to keep our eyes on Jesus, walking in his footsteps, and not our own error. In Jesus precious name, Amen.

1 Would to God ye could bear with me a little in my folly: and indeed bear with me.
2 For I am jealous over you with godly jealousy: for I have espoused you to one husband, that I may present you as a chaste virgin to Christ.
3 But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ.
