Receive God's Word And HIde His Commandments In Your Heart
05/02/2021

Daily Devotions:
by Christina Farris

Proverbs 2:1-22 KJV
1 My son, if thou wilt receive my words, and hide my commandments with thee;
2 So that thou incline thine ear unto wisdom, and apply thine heart to understanding;
3 Yea, if thou criest after knowledge, and liftest up thy voice for understanding;
4 If thou seekest her as silver, and searchest for her as for hid treasures;
5 Then shalt thou understand the fear of the LORD, and find the knowledge of God.
6 For the LORD giveth wisdom: out of his mouth cometh knowledge and understanding.
7 He layeth up sound wisdom for the righteous: he is a buckler to them that walk uprightly.
8 He keepeth the paths of judgment, and preserveth the way of his saints.
9 Then shalt thou understand righteousness, and judgment, and equity; yea, every good path.
10 When wisdom entereth into thine heart, and knowledge is pleasant unto thy soul;
11 Discretion shall preserve thee, understanding shall keep thee:
12 To deliver thee from the way of the evil man, from the man that speaketh froward things;
13 Who leave the paths of uprightness, to walk in the ways of darkness;
14 Who rejoice to do evil, and delight in the frowardness of the wicked;
15 Whose ways are crooked, and they froward in their paths:
16 To deliver thee from the strange woman, even from the stranger which flattereth with her words;
17 Which forsaketh the guide of her youth, and forgetteth the covenant of her God.
18 For her house inclineth unto death, and her paths unto the dead.
19 None that go unto her return again, neither take they hold of the paths of life.
20 That thou mayest walk in the way of good men, and keep the paths of the righteous.
21 For the upright shall dwell in the land, and the perfect shall remain in it.
22 But the wicked shall be cut off from the earth, and the transgressors shall be rooted out of it.

Solomon a type of Christ speaking the words of God, saying if you receive my words and hide my commandments then it will go with you all the day of your life. Receiving God's word is half the battle in life. We often hear the words of God but never receive the word of God. When God sent his Son to die to the cross for our sins, he sent the tangible flesh of man to man as promised. He sent his precious heir to pay the price for sin. He sent his Son as the word that became flesh, for you and me, the word of prophesy coming to life born of a virgin. Yet when God sent his Holy Spirit into our hearts he writes his commandments on our heart. The beginning of understanding is when we receive Christ, in Solomon day it was to receive God's word as truth and to follow God's commandments. Christ in the flesh had not come yet. To believe in God's word was salvation, but now we have Christ to look to only, no we must look to the teaching of Christ words both Old and New Testament as well as the Spirit working within our own heart as a believer.

A teacher gives an assignment at school to the entire class and only 2/3 of the class complete the task completely. What the 2/3 did to complete the task was write the assignment down in their notebook to make sure they followed the instruction correctly. Anything they did not understand they either asked each other or asked the teach to gain knowledge of how to do the assignment. The other 1/3 of the class heard the instruction and said that sound easy enough, and went home some attempting what they remember of the assignment and other half of the 1/3 not doing any of the assignment at all. Who was trying to learn, who was only half heartly trying to learn, and who care nothing about the assignment? The story clear but is the lesson to be learned. To know what God wants we have to listen, we have to sometimes write down his instructions, maybe even unlining it in God's word/Bible and then we have to follow those instructions. We can not be lazy and saying oh I remember and doing what is common place for average person in regards of obedience to the word of God, it must be more thought out then that. We write do not commit adultry but do we in our heart? We say obey God but do we obey God? We say honor God but do we honor God?

We say we seek knowledge of understanding of the things of God but do we? Do we go beyond the act of flippantly opening God's word, reading it only to shut the book and said okay I read it. It like flipping on the tv only to forget as soon as it is off what was on it with no meaning. The other day I got interested in a movie and missed half of the movie, only to learn it be playing again the very next afternoon. Yeah, I had to go through the menu to figure this out on the tv. The next afternoon the first fifteen minutes it did not have my attention and I had to ask hubby to explain what was going on, by the time hubby took a break he missed about fifteen minutes of the same movie and when he came back into the room, I said well I figure out the last half of the movie from the first, we can go to the gym now. Five minutes later he agreed because he seen almost all of it with the next scene.

What if we took God's word and was as attentive as I was watching a movie, and said lets dig a little deeper into scripture to understand what is being said had to do with ancient history of faith and God's word, do a comparison, was Jesus and Paul in the New Testament talking about the Old Testament at times? Sure they were. What they spoke implied to the ancients as well as to their time period and now even to our time period, because it about spirituality and knowledge and wisdom that comes from God alone. No there were no tvs and computers back then, but spirituality still has to do with the heart, spirituality is not technology and a changing with the times.

One first of all must be willing to receive God's word to be true, second to receive it has knowledge and to seek for understanding of that knowledge. We must hide what we learn in our heart so we obey it has truth. God gives sound wisdom to the righteous and is a buckler/ or salvation to all that walk upright, or walk in faith. Then we see something more God will keep the saints feet from slipping and preserve them for everlasting life. His judgment and wisdom given to all that have faith in him.

To the wick they will stumble and judgment will befall them. It is that simple, yet sometimes we have to see it to believe it. God's word should be the most precious commodity to the believer. It should be the vegetables and meat for the soul and it should taste sweet as honey. It can taste bitter when we sin, or fail to follow God's instructions. There so much to learn but the first thing we must do is receive God's word, that is to receive Christ as Lord and Savior, not just that he came in the flesh, but that he is the spirit of prophesy to come and is coming back also in the flesh. That he can still speak to our hearts of events that will come into our everyday today life.

Dear Heavenly Father, we receive your word today, and Christ as Lord and Savior. We receive your word of wisdom and seek for knowledge and understanding of your word. so that we will honor and obey your word with not only in our hearts but your word will be rooted in our actions. In Jesus precious name, Amen.

Continual Scripture Study: Hebrews 10:16-20 KJV
16 This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, saith the Lord, I will put my laws into their hearts, and in their minds will I write them;
17 And their sins and iniquities will I remember no more.
18 Now where remission of these is, there is no more offering for sin.
19 Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus,
20 By a new and living way, which he hath consecrated for us, through the veil, that is to say, his flesh;

James 1:21-25 KJV
21 Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls.
22 But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.
23 For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass:
24 For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was.
25 But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.
