Daily Devotions: by Christina FarrisProverbs 1:1-33 KJV
1 The proverbs of Solomon the son of David, king of Israel;
2 To know wisdom and instruction; to perceive the words of understanding;
3 To receive the instruction of wisdom, justice, and judgment, and equity;
4 To give subtilty to the simple, to the young man knowledge and discretion.
5 A wise man will hear, and will increase learning; and a man of understanding shall attain unto wise counsels:
6 To understand a proverb, and the interpretation; the words of the wise, and their dark sayings.
7 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction.
8 My son, hear the instruction of thy father, and forsake not the law of thy mother:
9 For they shall be an ornament of grace unto thy head, and chains about thy neck.
10 My son, if sinners entice thee, consent thou not.
11 If they say, Come with us, let us lay wait for blood, let us lurk privily for the innocent without cause:
12 Let us swallow them up alive as the grave; and whole, as those that go down into the pit:
13 We shall find all precious substance, we shall fill our houses with spoil:
14 Cast in thy lot among us; let us all have one purse:
15 My son, walk not thou in the way with them; refrain thy foot from their path:
16 For their feet run to evil, and make haste to shed blood.
17 Surely in vain the net is spread in the sight of any bird.
18 And they lay wait for their own blood; they lurk privily for their own lives.
19 So are the ways of every one that is greedy of gain; which taketh away the life of the owners thereof.
20 Wisdom crieth without; she uttereth her voice in the streets:
21 She crieth in the chief place of concourse, in the openings of the gates: in the city she uttereth her words, saying,
22 How long, ye simple ones, will ye love simplicity? and the scorners delight in their scorning, and fools hate knowledge?
23 Turn you at my reproof: behold, I will pour out my spirit unto you, I will make known my words unto you.
24 Because I have called, and ye refused; I have stretched out my hand, and no man regarded;
25 But ye have set at nought all my counsel, and would none of my reproof:
26 I also will laugh at your calamity; I will mock when your fear cometh;
27 When your fear cometh as desolation, and your destruction cometh as a whirlwind; when distress and anguish cometh upon you.
28 Then shall they call upon me, but I will not answer; they shall seek me early, but they shall not find me:
29 For that they hated knowledge, and did not choose the fear of the LORD:
30 They would none of my counsel: they despised all my reproof.
31 Therefore shall they eat of the fruit of their own way, and be filled with their own devices.
32 For the turning away of the simple shall slay them, and the prosperity of fools shall destroy them.
33 But whoso hearkeneth unto me shall dwell safely, and shall be quiet from fear of evil.
Solomon being the author of Proverbs and also the King of Israel, what made Solomon wise was how he dealt with those he ruled, however when it came to his private life he might not of been thought to have much wisom. After all he had 800 wives, and rich beyond his imagination. His wisdom would lead him to a path of unrighteousness but also of faith. He allowed his wives to sacrifice babies to idols, he built a temple to house God in. Yet God was the one that would give him wisdom. God asked Solomon he could have anything he wanted to name what he would want. Solomon asked for wisdom. Solomon would become the wises king of Israel as far as ruler. Wisdom never means necessarily intelligents, it only means one has something that helps solve problems, give good advice and enables Solomon to rule a people even at a young age. Though Solomon possessed wisdom he did not always obey his own wisdom or insight. That my friend is the headache and heartache of the world we live in today. Wisdom may be had from the Lord, but do we follow the instructions of wisdom from the Lord.
Lord had told Solomon not to take of foreign wives and he did so, and they were women of idolatry and murderer/sacrificers of babies. Yet Solomon when he writes is writing as if instructing his children or his male heir to the throne. Has if he speaking to his children about wisdom.
In chapter 1 of Proverbs we understand to know wisdom and instruction is to perceive understanding. To have wisdom is to perceive or have the concept of wisdom, it does nto means one acts on it. To receive, to receive implies one takes the wisdom and instruction of wisdom, justice and judgment and equity and use it not just hold on to it but to give subtilty to the simple and knowledge with discretion. In other words do not cast your pearls to the swine/hogs. Don't throw the precious wisdom to those that will not use it correctly once receiving it. Yet Solomon did not necessarily obey his own words. To fear the Lord is the beginning of Knowledge. We talk about this year about fearing the Lord, we talk about the Lord's power. Yet we never talked about God's wisdom and that fact it is insightful for us to hear the wisdom of the Lord and obey it, because he sees, he hears and he knows all. It is putting our trust in the Lord when it comes to knowledge and understanding of it.
1 The proverbs of Solomon the son of David, king of Israel;
2 To know wisdom and instruction; to perceive the words of understanding;
3 To receive the instruction of wisdom, justice, and judgment, and equity;
One of the first thing children of godly parents need to do is learn to hear the instruction of their father and not to forsake the laws of their mother. Mother's know what children need to learn when it comes to their father. If they listen to their mother, they will know when not to disturb dad, not disturb but to hear and listen to his instruction. Cain found himself not listening to God when it came to killing his brother, though God spoke to him. The first crime of a child was murder and disobedience to God. Yet what is more horrific is Solomon warning to children not to get involved with men of greed, desire to murder, and commit crimes. Instead stay away from these types of people. If a child is learning to shop lift we have to ask one question, did parents teach it or another child. At what point is the child guilty the moment he steals, with knowledge that it is a crime or before his knowledge that it is a crime. The answer is it depends on the circumstances. Solomon says to stay away from such people, and God had instruct Cain to not become such a man, but he would not listen to God's instruction.
Solomon implies wisdom to be a woman has he refers to wisdom as a she, or her in scripture test. Wisdom speaks even in the streets, but when will people put away destruction and do the instruction of God. The struggle of man begins when he hears good instruction and choose evil instead, He refuses knowledge of God the wisdom of God to do good. Whether one believes in God a person still can choose the wisdom of God and to do the right thing and not to go down and path of destruction. Yet the one not hearing the wisdom of God will find themselves laughed at by God? Yes at some point God turns man over to destruction and laughs at him because he refuses to listen. It not comedians of years gone by despite what they do on stage in silence, it what they are not seemly able to control that leaves the audience in stitches. The comic always doing things the wrong way, despite his desire to try and do it right, he fails to follow the correct way without something happening. He gets hit in the head, knock to his knees, falls down and climbs back up only to do it all over again, just because he can not obey the rules of the people on the street who interact with him and even try and help him. God does try to help us, but when evil people continue to fail to heed his warning, and fails to listen, God is going to laugh at their destruction, because it is opposition to his authority, his wisdom, his judment and his integrity of life.
24 Because I have called, and ye refused; I have stretched out my hand, and no man regarded;
25 But ye have set at nought all my counsel, and would none of my reproof:
26 I also will laugh at your calamity; I will mock when your fear cometh;
If we obey God and hearken to him, we are promised to dwell in safety and will not live in the fear of evil. If one does something wrong they often live in fear of getting caught. If they confess the sin, often people are forgiving unless it is a crime that has to be punish because of they type of crime it is. God however is just to forgive us if we repent and turn to his instruction of wisdom, knowledge and justice. It sounds like a tall order, but it truth it is not, when we choose to yield to God's spirit, God will be a reward to those that obey.
Dear Heavenly Father thank you for wisdom and instruction to obey you because you know what we do not know about the evilness of life that leads to destruction. In Jesus precious name, Amen.

1 Therefore thou art inexcusable, O man, whosoever thou art that judgest: for wherein thou judgest another, thou condemnest thyself; for thou that judgest doest the same things.
2 But we are sure that the judgment of God is according to truth against them which commit such things.
3 And thinkest thou this, O man, that judgest them which do such things, and doest the same, that thou shalt escape the judgment of God?
4 Or despisest thou the riches of his goodness and forbearance and longsuffering; not knowing that the goodness of God leadeth thee to repentance?
5 But after thy hardness and impenitent heart treasurest up unto thyself wrath against the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God;
6 Who will render to every man according to his deeds:
7 To them who by patient continuance in well doing seek for glory and honour and immortality, eternal life:
8 But unto them that are contentious, and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness, indignation and wrath,
9 Tribulation and anguish, upon every soul of man that doeth evil, of the Jew first, and also of the Gentile;
10 But glory, honour, and peace, to every man that worketh good, to the Jew first, and also to the Gentile:
11 For there is no respect of persons with God.
12 For as many as have sinned without law shall also perish without law: and as many as have sinned in the law shall be judged by the law;
13 (For not the hearers of the law are just before God, but the doers of the law shall be justified.
14 For when the Gentiles, which have not the law, do by nature the things contained in the law, these, having not the law, are a law unto themselves:
15 Which shew the work of the law written in their hearts, their conscience also bearing witness, and their thoughts the mean while accusing or else excusing one another;)
16 In the day when God shall judge the secrets of men by Jesus Christ according to my gospel.
17 Behold, thou art called a Jew, and restest in the law, and makest thy boast of God,
18 And knowest his will, and approvest the things that are more excellent, being instructed out of the law;
