Daily Devotions:
by Christina Farris

Judges 13:1-25 KJV
1 And the children of Israel did evil again in the sight of the LORD; and the LORD delivered them into the hand of the Philistines forty years.
2 And there was a certain man of Zorah, of the family of the Danites, whose name was Manoah; and his wife was barren, and bare not.
3 And the angel of the LORD appeared unto the woman, and said unto her, Behold now, thou art barren, and bearest not: but thou shalt conceive, and bear a son.
4 Now therefore beware, I pray thee, and drink not wine nor strong drink, and eat not any unclean thing:
5 For, lo, thou shalt conceive, and bear a son; and no razor shall come on his head: for the child shall be a Nazarite unto God from the womb: and he shall begin to deliver Israel out of the hand of the Philistines.
6 Then the woman came and told her husband, saying, A man of God came unto me, and his countenance was like the countenance of an angel of God, very terrible: but I asked him not whence he was, neither told he me his name:
7 But he said unto me, Behold, thou shalt conceive, and bear a son; and now drink no wine nor strong drink, neither eat any unclean thing: for the child shall be a Nazarite to God from the womb to the day of his death.
8 Then Manoah intreated the LORD, and said, O my Lord, let the man of God which thou didst send come again unto us, and teach us what we shall do unto the child that shall be born.
9 And God hearkened to the voice of Manoah; and the angel of God came again unto the woman as she sat in the field: but Manoah her husband was not with her.
10 And the woman made haste, and ran, and shewed her husband, and said unto him, Behold, the man hath appeared unto me, that came unto me the other day.
11 And Manoah arose, and went after his wife, and came to the man, and said unto him, Art thou the man that spakest unto the woman? And he said, I am.
12 And Manoah said, Now let thy words come to pass. How shall we order the child, and how shall we do unto him?
13 And the angel of the LORD said unto Manoah, Of all that I said unto the woman let her beware.
14 She may not eat of any thing that cometh of the vine, neither let her drink wine or strong drink, nor eat any unclean thing: all that I commanded her let her observe.
15 And Manoah said unto the angel of the LORD, I pray thee, let us detain thee, until we shall have made ready a kid for thee.
16 And the angel of the LORD said unto Manoah, Though thou detain me, I will not eat of thy bread: and if thou wilt offer a burnt offering, thou must offer it unto the LORD. For Manoah knew not that he was an angel of the LORD.
17 And Manoah said unto the angel of the LORD, What is thy name, that when thy sayings come to pass we may do thee honour?
18 And the angel of the LORD said unto him, Why askest thou thus after my name, seeing it is secret?
19 So Manoah took a kid with a meat offering, and offered it upon a rock unto the LORD: and the angel did wondrously; and Manoah and his wife looked on.
20 For it came to pass, when the flame went up toward heaven from off the altar, that the angel of the LORD ascended in the flame of the altar. And Manoah and his wife looked on it, and fell on their faces to the ground.
21 But the angel of the LORD did no more appear to Manoah and to his wife. Then Manoah knew that he was an angel of the LORD.
22 And Manoah said unto his wife, We shall surely die, because we have seen God.
23 But his wife said unto him, If the LORD were pleased to kill us, he would not have received a burnt offering and a meat offering at our hands, neither would he have shewed us all these things, nor would as at this time have told us such things as these.
24 And the woman bare a son, and called his name Samson: and the child grew, and the LORD blessed him.
25 And the Spirit of the LORD began to move him at times in the camp of Dan between Zorah and Eshtaol.

There always been people that have been chosen by God for a particular purpose even before conception. To study Christ birth we know his conception was a preplanned birth. Samson's conception was preplannec as well. He was to be a Nazarite to the Lord, and not one hair would be shaved. The significance of the shaved head had to due with the custom of shaving the hair of a Nazarite and burning it has a peace offering to God on an altar and it would end his day of separation from the world.

Samson's parents did all that was right in raising Samson, In fact Manoah his father was so concerned about this conception he ask Lord to send the angel back that spoke to his wife the first time about the conception of a child. The angel returned to Manoah's wife to speak to her husband about how to care for this child. The angel told the things his wife was to eat while pregnant too. An offering was offered on the altar and the angel ascended upward with the flames.

The preparation of the Nazarite began at the womb. This baby conceived was not to have wine or strong drink, or eat anything consider unclean by Jewish dietary laws. It matters not how much parents obey the Lord in the raising of a child or doing all that proper at some point the child will choose whether to do things God's way.

The time of Samson's birth the Spirit of the Lord seem to be moving in the camp of Dan between Zorah and Eshtaol. Why is this important. A child was born for a reason a Nazerite. He was conceived by a barren woman to a man who probably given up on his wife ever having a child, but perhaps had not ceased praying for a child. The fact is God had given this family a child for a purpose for the child was to be a Nazarite to his death.

The role of Nazarite of being dedicated to the work of God to the role of dedication for a purpose and this purpose was war. Yet we can not understand it was war until we realize the law of Nazarite was not to shave one's head tell the time it is offered on the altar as a peace offering and his duties were done, he could go back to normal life. Samson's life would not be normal. He would be offered as a Nazarite before birth and his hair was never to be shaved so he would fulfill the will of God in his life until death. This week for a few days at least we be looking at this call and how this man would actually land up fulfilling God's will even through his disobedience to God.

Just because God called us, never means we do it God's way at first, but to fulfill God's will, we become intuned to God's way or pay a price for our sin as anyone would in disobedience to God. The ordination of God can come at a price for all. We are all called to do the will of God, but not all yield to the will of God and thus fulfills God's will by our disobedience as example of consequences of disobedience to obedience. Manoah and His wife did there part in raising their son, down to seeking information on how to raise this child, but that does not mean a child will seek God in the way to do things. As we explore Samson's life we can understand God's will would be fulfilled in the destruction of the Phillistines.

Dear Heavenly Father, grant your people with the understanding that our obedience does not mean others will obey too, but our obedience is not based on others but our own choices just like Manoah and his wife choice to obey and even seek advice on how to obey. Help us to seek your instruction. In Jesus precious name, Amen.

Continual Scripture Study: Numbers 6:13-21 KJV
13 And this is the law of the Nazarite, when the days of his separation are fulfilled: he shall be brought unto the door of the tabernacle of the congregation:
14 And he shall offer his offering unto the LORD, one he lamb of the first year without blemish for a burnt offering, and one ewe lamb of the first year without blemish for a sin offering, and one ram without blemish for peace offerings,
15 And a basket of unleavened bread, cakes of fine flour mingled with oil, and wafers of unleavened bread anointed with oil, and their meat offering, and their drink offerings.
16 And the priest shall bring them before the LORD, and shall offer his sin offering, and his burnt offering:
17 And he shall offer the ram for a sacrifice of peace offerings unto the LORD, with the basket of unleavened bread: the priest shall offer also his meat offering, and his drink offering.
18 And the Nazarite shall shave the head of his separation at the door of the tabernacle of the congregation, and shall take the hair of the head of his separation, and put it in the fire which is under the sacrifice of the peace offerings.
19 And the priest shall take the sodden shoulder of the ram, and one unleavened cake out of the basket, and one unleavened wafer, and shall put them upon the hands of the Nazarite, after the hair of his separation is shaven:
20 And the priest shall wave them for a wave offering before the LORD: this is holy for the priest, with the wave breast and heave shoulder: and after that the Nazarite may drink wine.
21 This is the law of the Nazarite who hath vowed, and of his offering unto the LORD for his separation, beside that that his hand shall get: according to the vow which he vowed, so he must do after the law of his separation.
