The Giving Of A Child
5/17/2020

Daily Devotions:
by Christina Farris

1 Samuel 1:19-28 KJV
19 And they rose up in the morning early, and worshipped before the LORD, and returned, and came to their house to Ramah: and Elkanah knew Hannah his wife; and the LORD remembered her.
20 Wherefore it came to pass, when the time was come about after Hannah had conceived, that she bare a son, and called his name Samuel, saying, Because I have asked him of the LORD.
21 And the man Elkanah, and all his house, went up to offer unto the LORD the yearly sacrifice, and his vow.
22 But Hannah went not up; for she said unto her husband, I will not go up until the child be weaned, and then I will bring him, that he may appear before the LORD, and there abide for ever.
23 And Elkanah her husband said unto her, Do what seemeth thee good; tarry until thou have weaned him; only the LORD establish his word. So the woman abode, and gave her son suck until she weaned him.
24 And when she had weaned him, she took him up with her, with three bullocks, and one ephah of flour, and a bottle of wine, and brought him unto the house of the LORD in Shiloh: and the child was young.
25 And they slew a bullock, and brought the child to Eli.
26 And she said, Oh my lord, as thy soul liveth, my lord, I am the woman that stood by thee here, praying unto the LORD.
27 For this child I prayed; and the LORD hath given me my petition which I asked of him:
28 Therefore also I have lent him to the LORD; as long as he liveth he shall be lent to the LORD. And he worshipped the LORD there.

Perhaps women have had it right more then once, Yet women have had to sacrifice more then anyone else in one since, for they carry a child nine months longer then any man will ever carry their child. It not the same to have flesh and blood attached til birth as it is the heart. Man carries the child in his heart, but never been attached to the child physically. What did Hannah know about her own son, he was a gift from God and a gift meant he was already chosen by God for a work of his. Her husband Elkanah did not object to her raising the child until he was weaned from her breast and be given to the Lord and to have the priest raise their son. At this point in the story we do not know he would grow up to be a great prophet in the land of Israel. All we see is a mother giving up a son she had prayed for. Yet God does not return her son as God had Abraham. Instead he preparing the heart of women as Mary would have to see her son on the cross dying for the sin of the world.

As Mary wept at the cross, John comforter and Jesus gave Mary another son, and yet he was not son that could be replaced in heart or soul. Mary not understanding about the resurrection would soon know Jesus would come forth from the grave and then forty days later ascend into heaven. Mary did not understand the full scope of it, and know doubt the Spirit of God was Mary enabler that day. As the hospital during Coronavirus pandemic received children, parents had to walk away not knowing what would happen. Hardest thing is walking away and not being able to help a child in need. Yet knowing by doing so is the best thing. No doubt Hannah understanding of the gift of God and prophetic of Samuel birth knew this was best place to learn the ways of God for the call of God on his life.

These two women sacrificed much to the Lord, and yet at the same time their world was shook by the dynamic leadership of Samuel and Jesus. Sacrifice of a mother as a child goes off to school, camp, or the first time walk to a local store, is only a reminder of the tear of the heart knowing one day that child will not return to the home, but continue forward into the world unknown, only to visit and not to remain at home once more.

The process of mother hood, of giving up of a child can painful, but also a joy as you know you did a job will done, that the child is able to survive in that world unknown. As many parents watch there teenagers go into the adult world they know that life is just truly begining for them as they seek jobs and higher education. No one ever expecting it to be this hard for this generation to have to reach through a change in normal life to life of the effects of a panademic. Yet this class of 2020 is going to be facing the world in a new light. Many spreading wings for the first time and parents still needing to catch them from time to time as the learn to run on their own two feet in the world of unknown. Parents do not fear for your kids, pray for your kids that they will have the strength and the mindset of the Lord to carry them through. Dedicate their future to God and allow God to return them to you and your embrace.

Dear Heavenly Father may your will be done in the lives of the generation of 2020 that mother hearts not be broken, but father and mother be able to see their victories of their children as they run into the world of unknown possibilities. In Jesus precious name, Amen.

Continual Scripture Study: John 19:26-27 KJV
26 When Jesus therefore saw his mother, and the disciple standing by, whom he loved, he saith unto his mother, Woman, behold thy son!
27 Then saith he to the disciple, Behold thy mother! And from that hour that disciple took her unto his own home.
