Daily Devotions:
by Christina Farris

Acts 16:11-15 KJV
11 Therefore loosing from Troas, we came with a straight course to Samothracia, and the next day to Neapolis;
12 And from thence to Philippi, which is the chief city of that part of Macedonia, and a colony: and we were in that city abiding certain days.
13 And on the sabbath we went out of the city by a river side, where prayer was wont to be made; and we sat down, and spake unto the women which resorted thither.
14 And a certain woman named Lydia, a seller of purple, of the city of Thyatira, which worshipped God, heard us: whose heart the Lord opened, that she attended unto the things which were spoken of Paul.
15 And when she was baptized, and her household, she besought us, saying, If ye have judged me to be faithful to the Lord, come into my house, and abide there. And she constrained us.

The women of hospitality is a unique gift and not one all women seem to have. Some women are natural born come on in my house sit down and have a cup of tea. Others have no trouble just talking to people, but are not consider hospitable in nature. Perhaps it is that precausting because of harm from a stranger or the rule of strangers that keep people at more then six foot distancing in our world. If you go to a region that people talk to even strangers and go to a place you can get barely a howdy a do, you know quickly that you now in a new world. I was talking to a cashier the other day and told we really need to work on hand jestures or greetings because our expressions on our mask tell little about our emotions and yet another had a smile on her mask. See we greet each other by smile and nod and expression not ignored. We think little on these things until they taken from us. Just like freedom to be friendly to be kind, to be loyal, stolen from by mind control, governmental ears and constant brainwashing of what government rather you see, not what the news world truly captures and hides for embrassement sake at times.

Lydia a seller of purple cloth a women of God when Paul approach these women sat down and began to talk and listen to the things Paul had to say, her heart was open to the word of the Lord. Lydia and her whole household was saved. Paul a stranger, but one that Lydia beckon into her home to stay because of her faith in God that these men could use a meal and place to rest during their work.

There was a time when women opened their doors in the land as weary travelers came by and need of food or a place to rest and no one thought a thing about it but to be feed the people on their journey. Today if someone enters a city there is no greating and in some states a sign that says go home(wv I think took that sign down finally and says you can pass through). Yet a time when people hospitality and chariety was greeted with news of the outside world. The information glean from travelers told fo fake news as well as reality coming to their world.

Hospitality is a gift of the Holy Spirit, it was demonstrated in the life of Lydia a woman of God before receiving Christ into her heart and being baptized, and afterwards. There are gifts of God demonstrated in all believers like Rahab the harlot that hide the spies of Israel, and helped them escape out her window and saved her and her household that were in her room when the return to destroy the city of Jericho. God used women both sinner and saints to perform his will, for good. Women's roles are far greater then we imagine at times in the history of hospitality. Lydia maybe an innocent women, but not innocent of culture of her day or practice of entertainment of a meal and place to stay. Not all women that show hospitality are harlots and not all harlots are women without faith. How do you know which is with, by perhaps by culture, language and actions. Lydia one thing she ask if you consider me faithful to the Lord, please come and abide in my house. Faithful in God not in the life style of loose living. God preaches against sinful lust of the flesh and sin acts of the flesh. If we going to show hospitality as believers should gluttony be part of that in hospitality, not just taboo on sex. As believers we have a moral duty to live clean, be clean and look clean unless we just walked through a mud puddle waist high. You can walk through mud puddle, but you can not remain their. You need a water hose and bucket of soap. God does not want you to remain in sin, or continue in sin, so hospitality must only be to meet a basic need. If we are smart and will pray before just letting anyone enter the door that God will send people that need to hear his word as well as people that will be respectful of our life style. Showing hospitality by God's Spirit as Lydia did.

Dear Heavenly Father teach us wisdom of hospitality of who we let in our doors. Lord help us to be faithful to your word and your ministry of faith. Let us be lead by your Spirit in the role of hospitality. In Jesus precious name, Amen.

Continual Scripture Study: Hebrews 11:31 KJV
31 By faith the harlot Rahab perished not with them that believed not, when she had received the spies with peace.

1 Timothy 5:9-11 KJV
9 Let not a widow be taken into the number under threescore years old, having been the wife of one man,
10 Well reported of for good works; if she have brought up children, if she have lodged strangers, if she have washed the saints' feet, if she have relieved the afflicted, if she have diligently followed every good work.
11 But the younger widows refuse: for when they have begun to wax wanton against Christ, they will marry;
