The Paul makes it clear to young Timothy that he needed to study to know God’s word. Young Timothy was a minister. As minister he needed to know his scripture. Does study scripture help you know God. God is a God that does not change. With that in mind we know scripture aids in understanding about who God is Prayer is what helps us hear God better by knowing His word and what he done in the past. God is consistent. God is a God that speaks to our hearts. Do we need the Bible to teach us. Abraham did not have but a preliminary Book probably of maybe how the world began if that. The word book is mention in Genesis 5. Earliest record of the word book/scroll had history of the genealogy of the people. Probably as language develop and time for writing by those interested began to record history of the ancients as we know it today. Yet what we do know is God speaks to man. Noah was a man that worshipped God and found grace in God’s eyes. We know he preached because he obeyed God in building the ark. A hundred years of demonstrating faith in God has he built the ark. Abraham was told by God to go to the promise land. We know the land was owned by another tribe who gave him the land of promise, where he settled. Jacob experienced God through a dream, who Jacob promised he would worship if He brought him back to this place after he became prosperous.
What the point of going through the history of man with God to know the things we are experience is older then time itself. It is the alone time with God that allows us to know Him on a personal level. It is to know God on a daily adventure with Him. It more then charity work, and witnessing. It knowing what God whispers to his people on a regular bases. It knowing His secrets meant only for the believers heart. I still remember when God spoke to me in a church Bible study, and I did not understand then, but I understand what He now as truth. Sometimes what God reveals is not understood, but if we wait God will unfold the meaning to us in his time. God is not going to leave you without understanding if you seek him.
Children learn to read scripture through church attendance, but they learn also the history of the scripture. Church is needed for several things to teach the history so one knows what it means for the time it was written so if God speaks of time current to the believer they understand it. Anyone believer or non believer can understand the history of the Bible, but it is the prophesy of today in the foretelling most seldom understand, unless it meant for the hear and now and evident in the hear and now.
The relationship with God comes with listening to God as He speaks to your heart. Studying comes to know the history of God’s people, and to know the knowledge of what God will and will not do. Can you ace an exam without studying the answer is no, but you can walk with God without studying, but you may miss a step because you failed to realize that what you thought was not truly God. God gave his word for us to learn by, but it is only man record, inspired by God. It is the inherent word of God, and yet we know the laws changed over time in society, but God’s laws of spirituality never changed. Faith always being the key to unlocking that relationship to God, but it is more then that, faith comes with believing God sent His Son to die for you and me. When we study we learn history and the culture of a people. We learn about how people interact with one another as well as God. To know God is important part of faith. Study scripture and understand how it applies to your life correctly and not just picking a verse and claiming it without understand of what it means. A verse by itself does not always explain what the chapter is about or what is actually being said. One has to look at verse preceding to understand what scripture is talking about. Yet one verse is important to understand, it applies to even now, so separated it still has the same meaning as it did within the chapter. Study to show yourself approve a workman not to be ashamed.
Dear Heavenly Father work with our hearts and teach us all your word says. Teach us to know the history of the ancients past. To know so we understanding who you are, but also know the reality of your presents in our life today. In Jesus precious name, Amen.
