Bodily Exercise Profits Not

Daily Devotions: by Christina Farris

1 Timothy 4:6-14 KJV (6) If thou put the brethren in remembrance of these things, thou shalt be a good minister of Jesus Christ, nourished up in the words of faith and of good doctrine, whereunto thou hast attained. (7) But refuse profane and old wives' fables, and exercise thyself rather unto godliness. (8) For bodily exercise profiteth little: but godliness is profitable unto all things, having promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to come. (9) This is a faithful saying and worthy of all acceptation. (10) For therefore we both labour and suffer reproach, because we trust in the living God, who is the Saviour of all men, specially of those that believe. (11) These things command and teach. (12) Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity. (13) Till I come, give attendance to reading, to exhortation, to doctrine. (14) Neglect not the gift that is in thee, which was given thee by prophecy, with the laying on of the hands of the presbytery.

Bodily exercise profits not, unless you are a fitness coach. I been on a fitness mode since last fall. When I realize my fatigue for even a simple task was to much to handle and it was not something very hard to do. I actually got mad at myself. People go through periods where they feel the need to increase their daily exercise for either weight loss or health issue. If one is morbidly obese or with an eating disorder the desire for weight loss might be there. With using two extremes one might say, I never do that. Yet weight creeps up and mental status changes to cause people to do what they never thought they do. Godís word says bodily exercise profits not. Is there truth in subject it has little value. Only if one mental status is not to be content on earth until time to go home.

The spiritual health of humanity is at risk of decay and is a problem for those with spiritual starvation and spiritual gluttony. Is there is a spiritual neutral that is safe. For the believer the exercise of our faith is important daily. Yet to become to spiritually minded can make us no earthly good. With two extremes of spirituality, there must be in our life a balance that enables us to be humanly productive. Though our human productively has no heavenly value. One has to stop and think then what is to much spirituality, it is when our faith causes us to keep our nose in scripture till we can not exercise what we know in daily living. Sometimes it better to be able to exercise what we know then to memorize it to perfection.

Spiritual faith and knowledge is important for eternity, in one since. Without knowledge of salvation, death is eminent spiritually. If one believes as Christians do in eternal hope of salvation through Christ Jesus we know our faith begins with hope but expands to that daily walk of faith and learning to live in obedience to God and His word. Spiritual speaking we have the ability to lead others to faith by daily walking. Walking by studying scripture and putting it to practice. We lead others to Christ through willing to suffer for our Christian beliefs. In other words laying side from actively following the crowd to follow Jesus sometimes cause us to face persecution, it that true of anyone going against the crowd and some will follow devils because they agree with going against the grain of society. Jesus went against society when He talked to people that were gentiles or people that were not purity of faith.

I enjoyed seeing a church in a park this past Sunday. It was nice to see a crowd gather to worship and fellowship. As I continue my walk, I found myself thinking how much it blessed me by the hearing and the listening of the music as I walked. The point is we do not know how or what we do effects others. What if church was everyday in the parks and sidewalks, what impact would it have on our communities. Truth is it is a ministry that could be explored for those in that type of outreach and evangelism.

Purity of faith and honor of faith is necessity. One does not always to live up to how we ought too, that is why we need to exercise our faith and practice so it becomes a part of our life and not just something we say or do when it is convenient. Earthly exercise has value it value is keeping us healthy as best as possible until our demise. It also strengthens us physically to hopefully maintain health weights, but not always. Every movement counts toward health goals. Raising arms keep one strengthen something used to feed oneself. Moving legs keeps one propelling forward. Without arms and legs one still can move and be part of society. These things do not stop a person from living only from being like everyone else as far as having legs and arms. Not all that have arms or legs can move them, but they still learn to do things that are beneficial to good health like eating regularly. A good spiritual diet is necessary of Godís word. Good healthy diet of practice what one preaches is good, unless what one preaches is evil. Does not matter your age your spiritual health, nutrition and exercise must begin immediately if it not already effective in oneís life.

Dear Heavenly help us to daily exercise our faith and spiritually. Keep us working out for you in our hearts, minds and action. In Jesus precious name, Amen.

Continual Scripture Study for Devotion: Romans 8:1-7 KJV
(1) There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.
(2) For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death.
(3) For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh:
(4) That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.
(5) For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit.
(6) For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.
(7) Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be.
