Daily Devotions: by Christina Farris

2 Timothy 1:1-7 KJV
(1) Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God, according to the promise of life which is in Christ Jesus,
(2) To Timothy, my dearly beloved son: Grace, mercy, and peace, from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord.
(3) I thank God, whom I serve from my forefathers with pure conscience, that without ceasing I have remembrance of thee in my prayers night and day;
(4) Greatly desiring to see thee, being mindful of thy tears, that I may be filled with joy;
(5) When I call to remembrance the unfeigned faith that is in thee, which dwelt first in thy grandmother Lois, and thy mother Eunice; and I am persuaded that in thee also.
(6) Wherefore I put thee in remembrance that thou stir up the gift of God, which is in thee by the putting on of my hands.
(7) For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.

Part of parenthood is teaching your children about your faith and trust in God. Some parents allow their own kids to decide what they believe and other seem to dedicate it which often cause rebellion in some children. It the attitude of you go and sit on the church pew because this is what this family does. Now sitting on a church pew never saved anyone, but learning what is taught about faith did. Some parents never learn to teach beyond the pew sitting. The drinking on Friday and Saturday night is what some parents teach. They have no recognition that partying with friends most of the weekend only to crawl into a pew on Sunday morning is the thing to do because their father and mother did it too. If children never hear about faith they never hear about hope of Jesus Christ. If we do not live our faith from Sunday to Sunday, our children will never know how to live it. It is the testimony of Christian children that remember their parents bowing for prayer over issues that arose in the family, that is only a reminder of the need for prayer in the home and to testify and teach how to pray, by first telling a child to talk to God has you would your friends. Jesus wants to be your friend, but he also wants to be your Lord. In other words Jesus being Lord is making him part of every aspect of your life. It not hard choice but not always easy to allow him in ones life Sunday to Sunday.

Timothyís mother Lois and grandmother Eunice according to Paul had great faith and their faith dwelt in Timothy. No great testimony can be said of a Christian mother and grandmother. The faith of Timothy Father is unclear, but what we do know he was Greek, meaning probably a Gentile. Yet we know the faith of the women in Timothy young life was great influences by the women.

Faith has to be taught, but it no signs that it will grabbed a hold to as the person teaching faith. Yet faith and testimony of someone often produces faith. People claiming to seeing aliens are often convinced they seen alien. Only those knowing the person before the experience know if their person really believe what they think they saw. Is there any truth behind it, only God knows and perhaps the government. There is a point with out faith demonstrated in the home, faith will never survive beyond the home of a believer. When one begins to pray with your children, one needs to show how God answered prayer, especially when it was highly unlikely to be possible without God. Testimony of evidence of the ability of God to respond through answer prayer. It is important. It important for children to know about scripture and what it says about Jesus. To know sound doctrine. Faith will not survive if you never share it. It is the responsibility of each generation to testify. History of scripture speaks of generations that fail to teach about faith in God and what happened, yet God always was able to raise someone up that believed the testimony of God.

As we approach next week the countdown to motherís day will begin. The though of motherís in scripture who taught about God and prayer for children. Who faith were strong in the Lord and testimony of their faith were testified in scripture. Lois and Eunice testimony of faith was spoken about by Paul to encourage a young Timothy to press on for Jesus, to stand in the faith in which he was taught and remained in him. Telling young Timothy that God had not given him a Spirit of fear which he received by the laying on of hands, but given a Spirit of power, love and a sound mind.

One can not be partying and keep a sound mind when alcohol or drugs are involved. Yet some think they can. The effects of faith is the power to obey God and to love has God loved us. To have a sound mind is important to faith, it keeps the testimony to be believed as truth.

Dear Heavenly Father thank you for sound mind and ability to share my faith publicly and in my home. Remind me as a believer in Christ it is my duty to testify of your mercy and grace. In Jesus precious name, Amen.

Continual Scripture Study for Devotion:Hebrews 11:1-3 KJV
(1) Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.
(2) For by it the elders obtained a good report.
(3) Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear.
