Worship The Son Of God
05/30/2016

Daily Devotions: by Christina Farris

Matthew 14:25-33 KJV
(25) And in the fourth watch of the night Jesus went unto them, walking on the sea.
(26) And when the disciples saw him walking on the sea, they were troubled, saying, It is a spirit; and they cried out for fear.
(27) But straightway Jesus spake unto them, saying, Be of good cheer; it is I; be not afraid.
(28) And Peter answered him and said, Lord, if it be thou, bid me come unto thee on the water.
(29) And he said, Come. And when Peter was come down out of the ship, he walked on the water, to go to Jesus.
(30) But when he saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink, he cried, saying, Lord, save me.
(31) And immediately Jesus stretched forth his hand, and caught him, and said unto him, O thou of little faith, wherefore didst thou doubt?
(32) And when they were come into the ship, the wind ceased.
(33) Then they that were in the ship came and worshipped him, saying, Of a truth thou art the Son of God.

Worshipping Jesus cannot come without recognizing Him as the Son of God. It was not long before the disciples before the disciples recognized Jesus as the Son of God. Yet the term Son of God can be a reference to any human being just like the son of man. Son of God is more then His Word, but one created by God. Man was created in the image of God, for this reason is also called the son of God. How does one differentiate the difference between the Jesus as the Son of God and the son of God from the rest of society? Jesus was born of the Word. Man was formed from clay and also in the womb. Jesus was not of Clay or earth. He conception was based on the Hovering of the Holy Spirit upon Mary. Not in sexual intercourse, but by the Word of God coming to be in Mary Womb.

One cannot worship Jesus without understanding who He is. Jesus walking on water was not a normal everyday occurrence of life in Israel. In fact Jesus walking across the sea was not upon stones, for even Peter walked on water until the moment his eyes left Jesus and He saw the billowing waves around him. Jesus walked on water by His power. Peter could not stand on the water without the power of Jesus. People talk in some churches about walking the tops of pews. It all sounds like craziness, but so does walking on water. Doing something by God’s Spirit that humanly is not possible. The moment Peter looked at those waves began to pick up, he became afraid. Now one might ask if Peter is an experienced fisherman why would the waves scare him. He was outside the boat of safety trusting in Jesus. A boat is design to take a certain amount of tossing to and fro from waves. Peter would have been use to the tossing of waves inside the boat, but outside he was feeling that water around him. Though he knew how to swim, he was not feeling too confident as the waves began getting a little stronger. Jesus had not changed, but Peter had, and he began to sink when he took his eyes off Jesus and put them on the waves.

Are you willing to walk on the outside of the safety net of faith and look to Jesus for direction, to walk on water trusting Jesus to enable you to do more then humanly possible. As Jesus lifted up Peter when He cried out, Jesus took Peter by the hand and lifted him up and they went into the boat. When those waves become too much, God wants to put us in a place of safety. He wants to cover us and hide us in the ark of safety. He will not leave or forsake us, but a person has to look to Him for protection. We cannot take our eyes off Jesus.

Disciples worshipped Jesus that day calling Him the Son of God. Yet did they fully understand who He was? They understood His power came from God. They understood He taught the ways of God. They understood that the confidence they needed to walk outside the boat came by focusing on Jesus. Fishing was their trade; soul winning was not. To witness to people must come by focusing on Jesus and not the world around them. The disciples had a lot to learn about being outside the ark of safety.

Dear Heavenly Father enable your children to keep focus on Jesus, who walked on water and taught your children how to trust in Him. In Jesus precious name, Amen.
