05/29/2016

Daily Devotions: by Christina Farris

Psalms 88:1-18 KJV
(1) A Song or Psalm for the sons of Korah, to the chief Musician upon Mahalath Leannoth, Maschil of Heman the Ezrahite. O LORD God of my salvation, I have cried day and night before thee:
(2) Let my prayer come before thee: incline thine ear unto my cry;
(3) For my soul is full of troubles: and my life draweth nigh unto the grave.
(4) I am counted with them that go down into the pit: I am as a man that hath no strength:
(5) Free among the dead, like the slain that lie in the grave, whom thou rememberest no more: and they are cut off from thy hand.
(6) Thou hast laid me in the lowest pit, in darkness, in the deeps.
(7) Thy wrath lieth hard upon me, and thou hast afflicted me with all thy waves. Selah.
(8) Thou hast put away mine acquaintance far from me; thou hast made me an abomination unto them: I am shut up, and I cannot come forth.
(9) Mine eye mourneth by reason of affliction: LORD, I have called daily upon thee, I have stretched out my hands unto thee.
(10) Wilt thou shew wonders to the dead? shall the dead arise and praise thee? Selah.
(11) Shall thy lovingkindness be declared in the grave? or thy faithfulness in destruction?
(12) Shall thy wonders be known in the dark? and thy righteousness in the land of forgetfulness?
(13) But unto thee have I cried, O LORD; and in the morning shall my prayer prevent thee.
(14) LORD, why castest thou off my soul? why hidest thou thy face from me?
(15) I am afflicted and ready to die from my youth up: while I suffer thy terrors I am distracted.
(16) Thy fierce wrath goeth over me; thy terrors have cut me off.
(17) They came round about me daily like water; they compassed me about together.
(18) Lover and friend hast thou put far from me, and mine acquaintance into darkness.

Jonah as the waves of the storm encompassed him and the calm of the sea began but his feeling of drowning existed, as the waves tossed his body to and fro in the sea. Jonah was sinking and would have the feeling of abandonment while crying out for salvation, when toss overboard from the ship. Weakness of body from struggling against the waves and nearly succumbing to the sea caused Jonah to find himself in the belly of fish.

The drowning in sin will encompass you to feel, as there is no more hope if you go unrepentant of the sin. The weakness of the human soul to survive what our body and brains go through on its own. Without God salvation certain situation would seem hopeless. How many people have cried out to God in the night, or the storms of life without knowing Him? God’s strength comes to a person, during the time of trouble, causing them to only forget Him, the next day.

It not the valleys one goes through that builds strength of faith, it is the stillness of God’s voice and conviction on the heart that enables man to have that relationship with Him, upon the human belief. A storm may cause the turning of the tide, but it will not bring them everyday hope. This Psalms does not end on a good note only in utter despair. As I think of that abandonment of friends and family because of sin, one has to know that even with repentance there is no hope. Without turning to God you might survive the valley of darkness in the night, but eternally your soul will not if you do not survive the night. Beware my friend of the choice you make in life, for your soul unrepented leads to death. Work toward the right relationship with God and all fear is gone, for the hope is because He lived I can fact tomorrow the words of old hymn. Songwriter’s name I actually do not remember at this hour. Yet God knows his or her name just like he knows your name and wants you to live for Him, because His Son rose and died for you to give you salvation for eternity.

Dear Heavenly Father thank you for salvation through your Son Jesus that even when the waves of life’s troubles encompass around, there is hope if we keep our focus on you. In Jesus precious name, Amen.
