Daily Devotions: by Christina Farris

Mark 4:1-4 KJV
(1) And he began again to teach by the sea side: and there was gathered unto him a great multitude, so that he entered into a ship, and sat in the sea; and the whole multitude was by the sea on the land.
(2) And he taught them many things by parables, and said unto them in his doctrine,
(3) Hearken; Behold, there went out a sower to sow:
(4) And it came to pass, as he sowed, some fell by the way side, and the fowls of the air came and devoured it up.

When Jesus speaks in scripture of God taking care of the sparrow, one might ask would this first part of this parable fit. Just because a seed is meant for sowing, does not mean it land in the appropriate spot for growth. The seed that falls maybe feeding the birds of the air. It may be feeding life into others. One’s mistakes are often food for someone else to try and repeat to see if same result will happen or to learn from the mistakes made. Sports people often watch films of their players to see how to improve the game. To correct a play makes it a better play and team.

Seed of the word of God might fall for potential hears but the bird might also being needing repair work or nourishment from a long week of spiritual warfare. For a Bald Eagle a rotten would be a much better food to eat on, but for a sparrow the seed is just enough to fulfill its daily food. Even the sparrow likes an earthworm or bug to eat. Yet the sparrow can live off the seed, the eagle will surely die if it had only seed to eat.

Here the point as new believers just the simple evangelistic message is needed, but for spiritual growth beyond the evangelistic message, one needs meat to continue being nourished. God will either leave you in a place you can help see other saved or find yourself in a place where the sower will provide both meat and bread for the heathen, the babes in Christ or the well-aged believer. Every ministers sows the seed of life, but not all minister sow food for the soul, in fact that food must come from God. It is the Spirit speaking to the heart of man. When you plant and grow your garden remember to plant a seed for the bird as well. They need food too.

Dear Heavenly Father feed your birds the bread of life, the seed of life daily in our hearts. The seed is your word and I thank you for it. In Jesus precious name, Amen.
