Walk In Love
05/18/2016

Daily Devotions: by Christina Farris

Ephesians 5:1-21 KJV
(1) Be ye therefore followers of God, as dear children;
(2) And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweetsmelling savour.
(3) But fornication, and all uncleanness, or covetousness, let it not be once named among you, as becometh saints;
(4) Neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor jesting, which are not convenient: but rather giving of thanks.
(5) For this ye know, that no whoremonger, nor unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, hath any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God.
(6) Let no man deceive you with vain words: for because of these things cometh the wrath of God upon the children of disobedience.
(7) Be not ye therefore partakers with them.
(8) For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light:
(9) (For the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness and righteousness and truth;)
(10) Proving what is acceptable unto the Lord.
(11) And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them.
(12) For it is a shame even to speak of those things which are done of them in secret.
(13) But all things that are reproved are made manifest by the light: for whatsoever doth make manifest is light.
(14) Wherefore he saith, Awake thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall give thee light.
(15) See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise,
(16) Redeeming the time, because the days are evil.
(17) Wherefore be ye not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is.
(18) And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit;
(19) Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord;
(20) Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ;
(21) Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God.

The call of every believer is to walk in love. No this is not speaking about romantic love, but love of God. To walk not in anger or hate. I rather talk for a dozen days on how to walk by faith then to talk about the judgment of God. Yet in the passage it is a small speech about judgment against unbelievers, idolaters, fornicators/sexual immorality and so forth. We are called out of the life style of sin, not to return to sin. Yet what if you are trapped in sinful life style and can not just walk out. Ask God for a way out, his provision is greater then you. Yet it always God’s timing not yours. It is allowing God to take you out of Babylon into the life of freedom to live according to God’s will for your life. Who am I talking to when I talk about those trapped in a world of sin, the harlot the drug dealer and so forth. The one’s living on the outside of both religious and countries laws. Yet there are places that one can not flee from certain life styles so easily. God wants to provide one with a way out. The first step is excepting Jesus as Savior and Lord and allow him to provide the solution.

An alcoholic might be able to put down his booze, but he can not so easily forget his friends. Sometimes changing friendships when they will not listen to the change God has made in your life is the only recourse you have. Sometimes you are a child in abusive situation. Might not be able to leave home, but God in your life maybe the light to your family. Receiving Jesus will help you live that life that might not be so freely able to get rid of, til freedom comes. Israel did get trapped by life style of Babylon. Joseph enslaved in Genesis. Esther was a queen but her husband had many lovers.

Anger can take a person further then they want to go away from God. Profanity can cause one to loose their since of direction. People when they cuss talk much about God and hell, never realizing what they are truly saying. One temptation is only a temptation, until it becomes sin. That sin will separate you not from the love of God, but from being filled continually by His Spirit. When the Spirit God left King Saul an evil spirit enter in and wreck his life, because he obeyed not God, but the spirit that tormented him. Profanity is like a demon that one might wrestle with for a time, but God will even slow this down and eliminate it from your vocabulary if you will let him. Jesus came to set mankind free of sin, so they could live a life pleasing to God.

Jesus called us to be holy before Him. Called us to walk in the ways of God his Father. He called us to walk in love. To walk in love is to walk showing mercy to others who are not living as you choose to live. To show compassion and not afraid to speak out about sin that causing harm to others. Sometimes you have to allow people to learn what a hot oven is on their own when they will not listen, yet you have to pick battles to be effective. God picks his battles beginning with unbelief, and adultery towards him and/or idolatry that effects a persons relationship with Him. He starts with relationship to Him, to His Son Jesus. One can be the man in the gospels that said help my unbelief Lord. The first acknowledgment of God comes with help my unbelief and a desire to believe. One learns to walk by faith as one faith is stretched. Faith begins with a mustard seed of faith and will grow into a huge tree if one will allow it to grow. Trusting in God might not be easy but aperson is call out of the world to trust and believe in God and Jesus. To believe in His Spirit who is able to keep one in faith. To encourage the believers to have faith. Another human does not have to build someone else’s faith, but we are called to be builders of the faith as part of the building blocks of God’s kingdom. Our testimony might be the one testimony that helps another believer. Seeing the light of faith in another’s life might be the one light that keeps a person holding on. Yet it is not what holds another believer in check. God is able to correct his own. Why God allows his kids to stray is only because of their willful rebellion and they have to learn lessons the hard way sometimes.

To walk in love is to walk in faith in God and his ability not only to change your life but the lives of others. You do your part of walking in faith by God’s Spirit, living holy as example of faith and not worry about what so and so is doing in their faith, unless it against the law and sometimes not, depending on the situation. Even the law is lenient sometimes. Hear is the point, God desires us to grow in his love by trusting Him and demonstrating the love He demonstrated to us. Not to be a lord over someone or to whip them with the word of God. Yet to use his word has He directs. Sharing his word in faith, by being a living testimony by walking in God’s ways. Learning to turn from sin and if trapped seeking God on how to get out of the trap of sin. We are called to walk in the light of God’s word not to walk in sin. Do not use this message to justifying sin, because God does not justify sin. God frees a person from sin. Walk in the calling of God on your life as a believer, turning from sinful nature of mankind and putting on the yoke of love.

Dear Heavenly Father teach us to walk in love and compassion toward others not of faith and trust in you. Demonstrating love to fellow believers and unbelievers. In Jesus precious name, Amen.
