Daily Devotions: by Christina Farris

2 Kings 20:1-21 KJV
(1) In those days was Hezekiah sick unto death. And the prophet Isaiah the son of Amoz came to him, and said unto him, Thus saith the LORD, Set thine house in order; for thou shalt die, and not live.
(2) Then he turned his face to the wall, and prayed unto the LORD, saying,
(3) I beseech thee, O LORD, remember now how I have walked before thee in truth and with a perfect heart, and have done that which is good in thy sight. And Hezekiah wept sore.
(4) And it came to pass, afore Isaiah was gone out into the middle court, that the word of the LORD came to him, saying,
(5) Turn again, and tell Hezekiah the captain of my people, Thus saith the LORD, the God of David thy father, I have heard thy prayer, I have seen thy tears: behold, I will heal thee: on the third day thou shalt go up unto the house of the LORD.
(6) And I will add unto thy days fifteen years; and I will deliver thee and this city out of the hand of the king of Assyria; and I will defend this city for mine own sake, and for my servant David's sake.
(7) And Isaiah said, Take a lump of figs. And they took and laid it on the boil, and he recovered.
(8) And Hezekiah said unto Isaiah, What shall be the sign that the LORD will heal me, and that I shall go up into the house of the LORD the third day?
(9) And Isaiah said, This sign shalt thou have of the LORD, that the LORD will do the thing that he hath spoken: shall the shadow go forward ten degrees, or go back ten degrees?
(10) And Hezekiah answered, It is a light thing for the shadow to go down ten degrees: nay, but let the shadow return backward ten degrees.
(11) And Isaiah the prophet cried unto the LORD: and he brought the shadow ten degrees backward, by which it had gone down in the dial of Ahaz.
(12) At that time Berodachbaladan, the son of Baladan, king of Babylon, sent letters and a present unto Hezekiah: for he had heard that Hezekiah had been sick.
(13) And Hezekiah hearkened unto them, and shewed them all the house of his precious things, the silver, and the gold, and the spices, and the precious ointment, and all the house of his armour, and all that was found in his treasures: there was nothing in his house, nor in all his dominion, that Hezekiah shewed them not.
(14) Then came Isaiah the prophet unto king Hezekiah, and said unto him, What said these men? and from whence came they unto thee? And Hezekiah said, They are come from a far country, even from Babylon.
(15) And he said, What have they seen in thine house? And Hezekiah answered, All the things that are in mine house have they seen: there is nothing among my treasures that I have not shewed them.
(16) And Isaiah said unto Hezekiah, Hear the word of the LORD.
(17) Behold, the days come, that all that is in thine house, and that which thy fathers have laid up in store unto this day, shall be carried into Babylon: nothing shall be left, saith the LORD.
(18) And of thy sons that shall issue from thee, which thou shalt beget, shall they take away; and they shall be eunuchs in the palace of the king of Babylon.
(19) Then said Hezekiah unto Isaiah, Good is the word of the LORD which thou hast spoken. And he said, Is it not good, if peace and truth be in my days?
(20) And the rest of the acts of Hezekiah, and all his might, and how he made a pool, and a conduit, and brought water into the city, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah?
(21) And Hezekiah slept with his fathers: and Manasseh his son reigned in his stead.

It is the aloof attitude that will kill more people needing salvation from hell. There are so many laws in our world that one might like to fight against because of how it effects our nation spiritually. Yet the laws protect bigotry from causing someone else harm or starvation, that is only what makes a law good in some cases. God never intend destruction of a people to exist, but evil ways of man causes God’s wrath to come. God judgment of sin is clear from the garden, but it is also clear he desired to protect us outside the garden with coats of fur, from harsh elements of the world. Knowing God desired to protect from elements, God also desires to protect his people from evil. He has never stopped warning people of spiritual destruction and even sometimes physical destruction. God still desires to heal his people.

Being plagued with the thoughts of what to do in certain situations can be the one thing people hope they never have to face, from fire drills being a reality, to a learning rescue techniques only hoping never fully having to use them, but know a person probably will. Most common sense people prepare in some way for danger. Even if it only a basic first aid kit. However I can honestly say I do not remember the last time I personally bought a band aid, yet it should be kept in stock. There is a point mishaps happen, but it is the knowledge of what are you do harming someone else, and why would you do it.

The King Hezekiah in all his kingly wisdom remember the old ways when he found himself dying because of boils on his feet. The infection causing pain and suffering and apparently was not getting any better. Isaiah comes and then leaves, only fore casting his death. Isaiah gets not out of the middle gate of the palace and turns around at the request of God. He goes back and tells the King he will not see the destruction of Israel. It is only because Hezekiah repented that God was lenient with him. And Isaiah spoke the sign of the Lord, that Hezekiah ask for, when God gave it to him. Hezekiah had need of proof that he would not die yet, was a lack of faith in the word of God.

The horror of the story is when King Hezekiah allowed the devils into the palace and temple and showed them the wealth of the Lord, after being healed. People not of his country to see the grandeur of the God of Israel and the nations wealth. Hezekiah had been given fifteen more years. Hezekiah cared little of what would happen to the nation or the temple. Isaiah comes back and wants to know what Hezekiah has done. And the promise of the ripping of the nation was coming. Hezekiah did not cared, unless it happen in his life time.

The error of the world we live in is not on what will happen to our soul but what is going to happen to the world we live in. To take aloof attitude to the spread of the Gospel is to take the attitude of who cares what happens to someone else, I am saved and why should I care. It is a dangerous attitude because Christ loves all people. Jesus loves me this I know, what about Jesus loves you this I know for the Bible tells me so. It is the rise of the me and here generation that will and can destroy the world, or bringing hope of faith to the non believer, knowing tomorrow may not come. The selfishness of one generation can destroy the passing on of faith to the next.

Free love generation passes on sensual kind of love, but not the love of Christ, not the love of warning of what God can and will do to the unrepented generation. Why is there no warning the devil is coming to our world and is already ruling, because they understand not that government can not save a person for eternity but makes many promises to protect. Whether a nation is strong or not, makes little difference how it falls eventually. Though I believe in the strength of the nation I live in, I also see that it is capable of destroying itself without fully realizing what it is doing. The government is suppose to protecting their people, but what if they fail to do so, is it because they are hoping what happens will not effect their generation or happen in their life time.

Hezekiah king had power to refuse the devil and could of refused the desire to show the wealth of the kingdom and temple of Israel. It is the eye of greed that will destroy the world perhaps. If a person realizes all that seen is attainable, and strive for the wealth of the world. The wealth of the world will cost a person something, yet it can buy you anything you want even friends. Yet one’s wealth will not buy you eternity, or guarantee protection in a crisis situation.

God’s timetable of destruction might not effect you in this world, but it will effect you in the hereafter. In the time to come upon death if one is unsaved. Yet to be a believer and care not is the ways of the devil. Today I hope that what you see is a king who cared not about his people. I am proud of my nation’s leaders for fighting on health care issue, though it still is not enough, but it is a help. Though our nation is grand, it can not save my soul from hell, only Jesus can. It when the leaders care for the people that makes them the true servants in our government and the nation. Doing what they were called to do, to protect the people.

Israel kings had stopped caring for their people. Cared only what they could brag about and make themselves look good. A dangerous world when the leaders care not the effects this has on other nations to seek and destroy.

Dear Heavenly Father thank you for the saving grace provide through belief in Jesus. That the governments of our world can not save us but only grace. In Jesus precious name, Amen.
