Every Sunday A Psalms: In The Shadow Of The Almighty
05/01/2016

Daily Devotions: by Christina Farris

Psalms 84:1-12 KJV
(1) To the chief Musician upon Gittith, A Psalm for the sons of Korah. How amiable are thy tabernacles, O LORD of hosts!
(2) My soul longeth, yea, even fainteth for the courts of the LORD: my heart and my flesh crieth out for the living God.
(3) Yea, the sparrow hath found an house, and the swallow a nest for herself, where she may lay her young, even thine altars, O LORD of hosts, my King, and my God.
(4) Blessed are they that dwell in thy house: they will be still praising thee. Selah.
(5) Blessed is the man whose strength is in thee; in whose heart are the ways of them.
(6) Who passing through the valley of Baca make it a well; the rain also filleth the pools.
(7) They go from strength to strength, every one of them in Zion appeareth before God.
(8) O LORD God of hosts, hear my prayer: give ear, O God of Jacob. Selah.
(9) Behold, O God our shield, and look upon the face of thine anointed.
(10) For a day in thy courts is better than a thousand. I had rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God, than to dwell in the tents of wickedness.
(11) For the LORD God is a sun and shield: the LORD will give grace and glory: no good thing will he withhold from them that walk uprightly.
(12) O LORD of hosts, blessed is the man that trusteth in thee.

Even the sparrow and swallows have found a place to nest and rest in the wall of the temple of the Lord. One can not ignore how birds build their nest in buildings and crevices between the rocks of a wall of a building. They build there for protection and perhaps the lack of trees. Yet few people bother them when they do. People hoping to see baby birds that hatch. It matters not for a season to allow these birds to rest, but knowing that the holes be filled up to prevent the next years arrival. Yet for this time the birds rest and nest in the house of the Lord. In the walls perhaps of even your own home. A place for birds to raise the young to encourage them to take flight from. A place to learn about the Lord. To spread their wings and soar, spreading the seeds from their bill, in hopes to plant the word of God in fertile soil.

To rest in God’s house to pay loyalty to God alone, to rest in the shadow of the Almighty, is the one place to find hope in the valley, where the well never runs out of water. God’s people should be able to find rest is dwelling in the shadow of the Almighty. It is better to be a doorkeeper of God’s house then to find one’s self in the ways of darkness. To dwell in God’s word is better then to be alone.

Dear Heavenly Father, lay your protective hand over your children may we raise our children in your house. In Jesus precious name, Amen.
