Why is heeding a warning so important? Ask those who have faced the deadly tornadoes this season, why it is important to heed the warnings of the sirens, texts, tv signals and so forth? It is for one to take cover or hid under the protection of storm shelter. Though no shelter or safety measures are full proof that man makes, the protection is there for all that heed God's call.
Ahab was king that feared the Prophet Elijah and even seen him as his enemy. Ahab understood he was enemy of God for obeyed his wife and her prophets. Ahab had gotten a vineyard by plot against an innocent man named Naboth. He killed him and took possession of the vineyard, because of its beauty.
God instructed Elijah to go to King Ahab and tell him the curse that was going to befall him and Queen Jezebel for such a treasonist act against one of his own countrymen. What if it happened in America. Trust me it probably has more then once when government takes land they desire and only way to get it is to kill someone, or force them from their land through bullying them. Most would say does that really happen today, because it never happened to them or anyone they know. Yet some would testify it is true. Those on the side of the government laugh with glee when someone innocent is destroyed and yet think nothing about it. They care little about Naboth of our world.
What happens when Elijah warns him of his death to come, Ahab repents, but does not truly turn to God. He had a fear of God but not fear enough to continue in God's way despite the warning of God. The word of God might be said to been snatched from him. If one exams the full story of King Ahab he has a fear of God but not faith in God. Devil fears and trembles(James 2). Yet his fear is not enough to bring true everlasting change. His fear is enough to keep him inline for a time frame.
God gives us a choice to serve him and a choice to obey him. To serve is not slavery, it to heed the warnings of God, do the will of God and to believe his word and follow it for one's own safety and because one loves God back because he first loved us.
Ahab had a warning from God told to him by Elijah. Ahab repented. God said destruction would not come to him but the next generation because he humbled himself before God. God does not take away his wrath with the repentance only says it be for the next generation, until what occurs Ahab repentance is not long lasting.
The repentance looks sincere until we continue the story of Ahab with his death in I Kings 22 and II Kings 9 tells of Jezebel destruction and Ahab offspring. What example of the warning not heeded and God's wrath fully prevailing on the life of Ahab, Jezebel and their offspring.
God delivered his own Son to be put to death but the law of the people. Yet he had sinned not. He allowed his own son to face death for how the world preceived his crime. Then God raised Jesus back up saying you better believe, because Jesus is your only salvation. It not enough to repent once and say I am covered by the blood of Jesus without true change continuing. Do we turn to the way of destruction? Or do we obey God by living for Jesus in obedience to his word. To love God and to love our neighbor has ourself.
God not asking for the impossible life style, he asking for us to consider love above our own wants and desires. To not press toward our greed, our desires, our lust and our meanest. God is asking us not to follow false gods and goddesses. God is asking us to follow him in truth and righteousness of faith.
Dear Heavenly Father remind us that there is consquences of evil, may it turn the heart to you and teach us to live in righteousness and faith all the days of our life, obeying your truth, because not to can mean uncertainity of destruction and death. In Jesus precious name, Amen.
