Daily Devotions: by Christina Farris

Ezekiel 39:1-29 KJV
(1) Therefore, thou son of man, prophesy against Gog, and say, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I am against thee, O Gog, the chief prince of Meshech and Tubal:
(2) And I will turn thee back, and leave but the sixth part of thee, and will cause thee to come up from the north parts, and will bring thee upon the mountains of Israel:
(3) And I will smite thy bow out of thy left hand, and will cause thine arrows to fall out of thy right hand.
(4) Thou shalt fall upon the mountains of Israel, thou, and all thy bands, and the people that is with thee: I will give thee unto the ravenous birds of every sort, and to the beasts of the field to be devoured.
(5) Thou shalt fall upon the open field: for I have spoken it, saith the Lord GOD.
(6) And I will send a fire on Magog, and among them that dwell carelessly in the isles: and they shall know that I am the LORD.
(7) So will I make my holy name known in the midst of my people Israel; and I will not let them pollute my holy name any more: and the heathen shall know that I am the LORD, the Holy One in Israel.
(8) Behold, it is come, and it is done, saith the Lord GOD; this is the day whereof I have spoken.
(9) And they that dwell in the cities of Israel shall go forth, and shall set on fire and burn the weapons, both the shields and the bucklers, the bows and the arrows, and the handstaves, and the spears, and they shall burn them with fire seven years:
(10) So that they shall take no wood out of the field, neither cut down any out of the forests; for they shall burn the weapons with fire: and they shall spoil those that spoiled them, and rob those that robbed them, saith the Lord GOD.
(11) And it shall come to pass in that day, that I will give unto Gog a place there of graves in Israel, the valley of the passengers on the east of the sea: and it shall stop the noses of the passengers: and there shall they bury Gog and all his multitude: and they shall call it The valley of Hamongog.
(12) And seven months shall the house of Israel be burying of them, that they may cleanse the land.
(13) Yea, all the people of the land shall bury them; and it shall be to them a renown the day that I shall be glorified, saith the Lord GOD.
(14) And they shall sever out men of continual employment, passing through the land to bury with the passengers those that remain upon the face of the earth, to cleanse it: after the end of seven months shall they search.
(15) And the passengers that pass through the land, when any seeth a man's bone, then shall he set up a sign by it, till the buriers have buried it in the valley of Hamongog.
(16) And also the name of the city shall be Hamonah. Thus shall they cleanse the land.
(17) And, thou son of man, thus saith the Lord GOD; Speak unto every feathered fowl, and to every beast of the field, Assemble yourselves, and come; gather yourselves on every side to my sacrifice that I do sacrifice for you, even a great sacrifice upon the mountains of Israel, that ye may eat flesh, and drink blood.
(18) Ye shall eat the flesh of the mighty, and drink the blood of the princes of the earth, of rams, of lambs, and of goats, of bullocks, all of them fatlings of Bashan.
(19) And ye shall eat fat till ye be full, and drink blood till ye be drunken, of my sacrifice which I have sacrificed for you.
(20) Thus ye shall be filled at my table with horses and chariots, with mighty men, and with all men of war, saith the Lord GOD.
(21) And I will set my glory among the heathen, and all the heathen shall see my judgment that I have executed, and my hand that I have laid upon them.
(22) So the house of Israel shall know that I am the LORD their God from that day and forward.
(23) And the heathen shall know that the house of Israel went into captivity for their iniquity: because they trespassed against me, therefore hid I my face from them, and gave them into the hand of their enemies: so fell they all by the sword.
(24) According to their uncleanness and according to their transgressions have I done unto them, and hid my face from them.
(25) Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; Now will I bring again the captivity of Jacob, and have mercy upon the whole house of Israel, and will be jealous for my holy name;
(26) After that they have borne their shame, and all their trespasses whereby they have trespassed against me, when they dwelt safely in their land, and none made them afraid.
(27) When I have brought them again from the people, and gathered them out of their enemies' lands, and am sanctified in them in the sight of many nations;
(28) Then shall they know that I am the LORD their God, which caused them to be led into captivity among the heathen: but I have gathered them unto their own land, and have left none of them any more there.
(29) Neither will I hide my face any more from them: for I have poured out my spirit upon the house of Israel, saith the Lord GOD.

It is a strange thing to think of God almighty using his own people as sacrifice to the heathens to teach them His power. If God is against you, it better be because of sin and not because you choose to be enemy of God. In today’s world I really do not think no believers or even believers necessarily go looking at victory as always being of God or not of God. There are religious groups today that still do. Islam seen the towers fall only to believe it was victory for their faith, until America and the world chase their leaders down. What is victory but a chance to say I big and tougher then you or is it about the power of God tearing the enemies or his people down for a purpose. Ezekiel in his day was looking at the sins of the people from his faith side of things. God was speaking to Him, and declare the exile was for a lesson to His people and for the heathens. Sacrifice of God’s people because of sin. They would die in their sin and be taken into captive those that remained, only to be returned to their land. The stories of war and victory would fill the palates of those that hunger and thirst for the stories of war. The enemy would get their fill of the stories of victory, yet God was going to declare that their victory was not their doing but the power of God.

I am not sure how many of go thinking about the power of God rising and building up or tearing things apart, but God is able. It is not part of the language of the world I am sure of, but to hear it in the church of God tearing it or raising it up, I do not think it talked about either beyond a scriptural study. Understanding God spoke these words to Ezekiel only helps the picture that it was not the genius of man that plan the psychological warfare on the enemy. To be told by Israel’s prophet that you did not win this war by your own power but the power of God allowed you to win. That like playing a game of checkers or chess only to hear the words of your opponent I let you win. Yet God’s purpose in letting the enemy know He let them win was so their hearts might be turned to Him, that they would understand their own sin was like the sin of Israel against this God of Israel. That their sin would cause their downfall and their eternity without repentance. The return of Israel would be a sign to the heathens of a forgiving God, and a God that could rebuild his people.

From a world’s view this chapter does not work for a soul in today’s world. It sounds like psychological mumbo jumbo, until you believe in God or can see the act of a loving God upon his people the sacrifice or destruction of sin among his people can not be understood. Why not bring the people out of their destruction sin to deliver them out without loosing to the enemy for a time period. Simply this allowing his people of faith to be scattered, it allowed the working of yeast in a loaf of bread so to speak. Love that comes from God and his people will change lives. Kindness from a stranger goes a long way. If you knew that kindness was because of faith would it matter to you? If the actions of a people was because of faith would it make a difference. The testimony of faith of God’s people matter. God declare those in Israel that were sinning his people, yet he was going to destroy them for their sin. Does a child stop being a child of a parent after correction only if the child’s correction came with abuse. How long is God suppose to take the abuse of His people? How long is he to tolerate sin? No one is exempt from God’s wrath. We all are God’s children, but not all believe or understand the victory or lose of war.

Sometimes people have to see where sin of their choosing will take them and so Israel was going into a heathen land. One must remember God turns people over to sin. God showing the heathen what it like to be in God’s favor for a time. What it means to have the blessing of Israel bestow upon you, only for you to be cut down because of your own wickedness, to see the children of Israel returned to the land of morality, a place you rather not be. Giving them back their land because you can not stand their preaching of righteousness.

The fact is people do not mind people having churches, as long as what they preach remains inside, it is when it flows out the door the heathens have issues until they get a taste of the change God can do for them. When God begins to work his love among people not his own, through miracles, through signs and wonders a great revival has happened. The miracles might quiet or they might not be as much in need as before because his people called by his name, are walking as they should and not as they should not.

Yesterday as I was examining a commentary one of the things spoken about had to do with the idea of the world becoming silent as Christianity spread that their was no real new creativity. If one consider the need of creativity to destroy sin, or to cover sin, one needs to think again. The creativity that comes from sin, or evil is not needed, but the creativity to make life easier will always remain. Less energy on how to clean up destruction and more on how to better life seems like a better choice, or call of productivity.

God will tear down and build up for his glory, His people will come home, and his people in foreign world they are exile to will demonstrate God’s love to draw people in. God’s Spirit will empower his people in difficult times to bring them to better roads ahead. Believers in Christ let us look now at Israel and their victory, yet remember the road of Christ is not finished. Christ is returning to awake Israel to truth of his power and His promise of the Messiah is true.

Dear Heavenly Father thank you for the hope of being your children even when the world around us is not so right, whether in exile or at home, we find your hope and deliverance in times of storm. In Jesus precious name, Amen.

Continual Scripture Study for Devotion:Romans 11:11-14 KJV
(11) I say then, Have they stumbled that they should fall? God forbid: but rather through their fall salvation is come unto the Gentiles, for to provoke them to jealousy.
(12) Now if the fall of them be the riches of the world, and the diminishing of them the riches of the Gentiles; how much more their fulness?
(13) For I speak to you Gentiles, inasmuch as I am the apostle of the Gentiles, I magnify mine office:
(14) If by any means I may provoke to emulation them which are my flesh, and might save some of them.
