The Watchman

Daily Devotions: by Christina Farris

Ezekiel 33:1-33 KJV
(1) Again the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,
(2) Son of man, speak to the children of thy people, and say unto them, When I bring the sword upon a land, if the people of the land take a man of their coasts, and set him for their watchman:
(3) If when he seeth the sword come upon the land, he blow the trumpet, and warn the people;
(4) Then whosoever heareth the sound of the trumpet, and taketh not warning; if the sword come, and take him away, his blood shall be upon his own head.
(5) He heard the sound of the trumpet, and took not warning; his blood shall be upon him. But he that taketh warning shall deliver his soul.
(6) But if the watchman see the sword come, and blow not the trumpet, and the people be not warned; if the sword come, and take any person from among them, he is taken away in his iniquity; but his blood will I require at the watchman's hand.
(7) So thou, O son of man, I have set thee a watchman unto the house of Israel; therefore thou shalt hear the word at my mouth, and warn them from me.
(8) When I say unto the wicked, O wicked man, thou shalt surely die; if thou dost not speak to warn the wicked from his way, that wicked man shall die in his iniquity; but his blood will I require at thine hand.
(9) Nevertheless, if thou warn the wicked of his way to turn from it; if he do not turn from his way, he shall die in his iniquity; but thou hast delivered thy soul.
(10) Therefore, O thou son of man, speak unto the house of Israel; Thus ye speak, saying, If our transgressions and our sins be upon us, and we pine away in them, how should we then live?
(11) Say unto them, As I live, saith the Lord GOD, I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked; but that the wicked turn from his way and live: turn ye, turn ye from your evil ways; for why will ye die, O house of Israel?
(12) Therefore, thou son of man, say unto the children of thy people, The righteousness of the righteous shall not deliver him in the day of his transgression: as for the wickedness of the wicked, he shall not fall thereby in the day that he turneth from his wickedness; neither shall the righteous be able to live for his righteousness in the day that he sinneth.
(13) When I shall say to the righteous, that he shall surely live; if he trust to his own righteousness, and commit iniquity, all his righteousnesses shall not be remembered; but for his iniquity that he hath committed, he shall die for it.
(14) Again, when I say unto the wicked, Thou shalt surely die; if he turn from his sin, and do that which is lawful and right;
(15) If the wicked restore the pledge, give again that he had robbed, walk in the statutes of life, without committing iniquity; he shall surely live, he shall not die.
(16) None of his sins that he hath committed shall be mentioned unto him: he hath done that which is lawful and right; he shall surely live.
(17) Yet the children of thy people say, The way of the Lord is not equal: but as for them, their way is not equal.
(18) When the righteous turneth from his righteousness, and committeth iniquity, he shall even die thereby.
(19) But if the wicked turn from his wickedness, and do that which is lawful and right, he shall live thereby.
(20) Yet ye say, The way of the Lord is not equal. O ye house of Israel, I will judge you every one after his ways.
(21) And it came to pass in the twelfth year of our captivity, in the tenth month, in the fifth day of the month, that one that had escaped out of Jerusalem came unto me, saying, The city is smitten.
(22) Now the hand of the LORD was upon me in the evening, afore he that was escaped came; and had opened my mouth, until he came to me in the morning; and my mouth was opened, and I was no more dumb.
(23) Then the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,
(24) Son of man, they that inhabit those wastes of the land of Israel speak, saying, Abraham was one, and he inherited the land: but we are many; the land is given us for inheritance.
(25) Wherefore say unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Ye eat with the blood, and lift up your eyes toward your idols, and shed blood: and shall ye possess the land?
(26) Ye stand upon your sword, ye work abomination, and ye defile every one his neighbour's wife: and shall ye possess the land?
(27) Say thou thus unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD; As I live, surely they that are in the wastes shall fall by the sword, and him that is in the open field will I give to the beasts to be devoured, and they that be in the forts and in the caves shall die of the pestilence.
(28) For I will lay the land most desolate, and the pomp of her strength shall cease; and the mountains of Israel shall be desolate, that none shall pass through.
(29) Then shall they know that I am the LORD, when I have laid the land most desolate because of all their abominations which they have committed.
(30) Also, thou son of man, the children of thy people still are talking against thee by the walls and in the doors of the houses, and speak one to another, every one to his brother, saying, Come, I pray you, and hear what is the word that cometh forth from the LORD.
(31) And they come unto thee as the people cometh, and they sit before thee as my people, and they hear thy words, but they will not do them: for with their mouth they shew much love, but their heart goeth after their covetousness.
(32) And, lo, thou art unto them as a very lovely song of one that hath a pleasant voice, and can play well on an instrument: for they hear thy words, but they do them not.
(33) And when this cometh to pass, (lo, it will come,) then shall they know that a prophet hath been among them.

The simple truth of the problem of our world, is to many nosey neighbors with too many logs in their own eyes. I have meet a few minister that would seem to be a watchman over their area and church. If you ever meet one that seems to have that prophetic type of gift do not be alarmed. It is his calling and way of ministry. Today the ministers do not all condemn or judge sin. In fact some would consider the church as become complacent in their duty to warn people of sin. Read one prophet book or teach it, including the law of God and you have done your duty as far as warning that group of people. However to seem to have eyes in the back of your head as well as in the front, seeing all that goes on is only a parents watchful gaze and the listening to other adults rat you out. Yet the watchful gaze of a minister should be on Christ alone and to walk by the Spirit of God communicating all the Spirit says. The ministers duty to speak the words of God is his calling. He needs not to know your situation to utter words of God to you that needs spoken. In fact the Holy Spirit came to speak to the believers heart, but even King David had need of a prophet at times in his life. The Prophets Nathan and Samuel both minister to David.

Ezekiel had a warning to tell the people to turn from idols, if they did not the temple and their land would be destroyed. Second God uses the symbol of the warning of the gatekeepers in the tower that would sound if the enemy approached the gates of the land of Israel. The watchmen were to blow a trumpet to warn the people. It could be heard far and wide. If the people did not get their weapons and prepare they would not escape the wrath of doom from the heathens. Yet like the Helen of troy the enemy had come within their land to destroy them and were within the gate with their heathen practices. No one that did not fight or prepare for battle would win, they would be killed and maybe worse raped and defiled. The cost and horror of wars by the heathens were barbaric. Some would say America is barbaric when it comes to war. Yet the truth is what is far to get information from those that would do worse to us, is consider barbaric. We need to think again how only a few soldiers are cross the line as far as bad behavior goes. Far less compared to some nations we have warred with. The Geneva convention was set up for agreements of what could and could not be done in war. Crazy talk or trying to keep people from being brutal.

The call of Ezekiel to warn the heathens of sin, to warn Israel and Jerusalem of sin of Idolatry. Yet if he did not warn he would have blood on his hands if they died by the sword. Just like the watchman that did not warn the people would loose his life and the life of those around him. Ezekiel had a call to warn the people of sin. Most ministers warn of sin, but some will literally come up and say you sinner to someone face. Some might call it old school style of ministry. Many ministers choose to allow God’s word to speak and to speak the Gospel of Love verse condemnation on a society. Both are callings of God and not of one’s own choosing. To chose not to speak by the Holy Spirit by the calling God places on your life is sin. It will cause judgment on the watchmen that fail to preach it.

Don’t be alarmed by these people calling for you to might have a time period in your life to preach the judgment and not always love. If you never warn your kids of the consequences of sin, they will be faced with the judgment of society and perhaps God has well. If you never teach your children respect you loose the ability to expect them to have respect for you or anyone else. Yet society takes care of what you fail at.

The truth is many watchmen never wanted to preach judgment, because with that calls comes the actions of those of disagreement. Many ministers were killed at the time of Queen Jezebel and King Ahab and yet Queen would loose all her prophets of Baal a false idol of her day by the sword and by the fire from heaven upon God’s sacrifice that would fall. When Israel seen God was for them, God’s people arose and slaughter the prophets of Baal.

Today if we warn not against the prophets of Baal and worse we will see our nation destroyed. I have no issue with people of other faith, God has an issue with you. God has a problem when you receive not his word or His Son. It the call of ministers to warn. Most do not like it when ministers speak truth about pagan practices. The practices of kill your children on altars, killing babies and so forth for your own desire or sacrifice. Abortion is an easy way out to be able to go after your own desires instead of growing up and raising a baby to adulthood. One might not worship idols that abort, but you still serving the idol worship of yourself and your selfish desires. Can God forgive the answer is yes. God can and will have mercy if you repent if you do not realize it was sin or understand the cost. One has to come to a desire to change and to make positive choices in one’s life following after the will and instruction of God. To love first God and then others. Denying your selfish desires.

Truth it is a choice we all have to make. This year I set some goals for myself for me. One thing you learn over the years you do have to take care of yourself before you can help someone else sometimes. And sometimes taking care of someone else helps you take care of you. Yet some times you have to lay your own desires aside to help another. I will never regret taking time to share God’s word with people or the time it took. I will however regret time I fail to take care of my own self or my husband and family or friends.

Truth is a call to minister to be a watchman as Ezekiel was left a judgment also on himself and he would see the results of disobedience through those who refuse to obey. Ezekiel would know his own judgment if he refuse to preach as God instructed by seeing what others did. The call of a watchman see the consequences to be able to have the boldness to speak the word of God despite any consequences that might follow. Consider your calling, and walk by the Spirit of God. Judging only as God calls you to judge and not to point fingers and condemn, but only to turn a sinner from sin. For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. Give more compassion then judgment. Love works always, judgment needs to be spoken only by the Spirit of God.

Dear Heavenly Father thank you for the call of ministers to speak truth of sin and the warnings, so those that are lost might be saved. In Jesus precious name, Amen.

Continual Scripture Study for Devotion:Matthew 7:1-5 KJV
(1) Judge not, that ye be not judged.
(2) For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again.
(3) And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye?
(4) Or how wilt thou say to thy brother, Let me pull out the mote out of thine eye; and, behold, a beam is in thine own eye?
(5) Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother's eye.
