Every Sunday A Psalms: Fruitfulness From The Lord Or Thy Own Hand
3/12/2017

Daily Devotions: by Christina Farris

Psalms 128:1-6 KJV
(1) A Song of degrees. Blessed is every one that feareth the LORD; that walketh in his ways.
(2) For thou shalt eat the labour of thine hands: happy shalt thou be, and it shall be well with thee.
(3) Thy wife shall be as a fruitful vine by the sides of thine house: thy children like olive plants round about thy table.
(4) Behold, that thus shall the man be blessed that feareth the LORD.
(5) The LORD shall bless thee out of Zion: and thou shalt see the good of Jerusalem all the days of thy life.
(6) Yea, thou shalt see thy children's children, and peace upon Israel.

Interesting thing occurs when you put your hand to the plow so to speak, vegetables will in general come up if one plants seeds in fertile soil. Yet faith in God produces the ability of plants growing even in the dry heat of summer with no rain. Those that strive without God are missing something important in knowing God. They are missing the hope of what can be even when the elements are not right for production. God’s grace to his people through prayer and trusting him, bring impossible to being possible within the will of God.

When God plants a family it begins with a good husband, and a loving wife that produce offspring that mimic their parents in apelike fashion of political correctness. Faith is different in how it effects a person. With faith and belief in God does not mean all is well or right in the world, it means that fruit around you has to do with faith and fruit of God’s Spirit even at times of difficulty. Until you walk through a valley you do not know about the potholes from a ground hog, or being hit by nuts from a tree from squirrels. You only know the mountaintop of revival of transformation of receiving Christ. Until you learn to walk with God this Psalms seems not to be so believable, for most people believers or not are fruitful if they put their hand to the plow and work. Most people if determined will survive most anything. What can I tell you as a believer what is to walk with God in faith and trust in Christ Jesus the Word of God. It is simple really, the impossible will happen according to the Lord’s will. If you ask God, He is able to take you through those times that pulling up your boot straps is not so easy. Making it easier to pull those boots on, knowing the hope of tomorrow, knowing his love encompasses you.

When I went through cancer it was like an over shadowing of God’s Spirit in my life, different then anything I ever went through before. Then it was God’s mercy and grace to take me through. If I look around my supper table I have a husband and no kids. If I ask where is the fruit of my labor I have to say I hope the carrots will grow that is planted, but it depends on the seeds or my heavenly Father will for those carrots to grow. I feel at times it unfair not to have children and then I am reminded all things for God’s purpose and not our own.

The personal struggle of not seeing this Psalms image becomes so clear for a man with twelve kids knows the product of his love for his wife bared fruit. It is the loving husband that takes time to hang a vegetable garden pot. It is a loving husband that is willing to fix the things wrong if the tools are provide or a way is. It is a loving that reminds a wife not to spend to much after she telling him for months not too. It is a loving wife that sees that bills are paid on time, or cleans house. It is a loving husband that tries all the crazy things his wife ask that does not always work out as well as planned. Yet what caused fruit in marriage is learning the love of God who has unconditional love that must be transferred in our own relationships with people. To forgive unconditional all the mistakes that perhaps should not always be forgiven.

The fruit of one’s family is not on the size but the love that is contained within it and expands in outward show of display of compassion in the fixing of a sink, the drying of dishes, or the walk in the park. An argument is only defines one moment of time, not a whole decade. Yet what makes a good family is learning the ways of God through action that either leads to the heart of change to follow Him and His Word, or learning God’s ways but not believe, yet even learning God’s ways without faith can produce an imitation of peace and tranquility. To walk by God’s Spirit is to follow the planting season of God’s Spirit. To plant the message of faith and hope in someone by sowing of God’s word. God’s word despite where it falls will produce for a season. Yet it will not remain prosperous without faith in fertile soil of someone heart. David had sons that strived after the fruitfulness of David’s labor but not always after the fruitfulness of David faith. Faith of someone else can not produce faith for someone else, it can only be a lamp light to help someone else receive the light of Christ.

The fruit of our lives displayed around the kitchen table is not proof of fruit, but only a shadow of fruit of our life for even evil people sit around tables and grow like poison ivy and not fruit plants. Our prayer needs to be we need to be a lamp post in the life of others. Standing erect in the face of all adversary in our life going forward in faith. Going forward in faith even when one does not want to love or bear fruit of God’s Spirit. Truth heaven’s reward of those that have faith in God, are seeing those that were part of your life or observers of your faith that it touched. In truth we do not know how our life is effecting others or the fruit it bears, but God knows, because He sees the heart of man.

I believe the Psalms in regards to fruitfulness seen, for fruit of Christ does bear in those we know. Yet I think if one only sees the family unit as being fruitfulness of God, I think of Eli that priest with two wicked sons, who loved God but his son’s did not. It was not because Eli failed necessarily it had to do with his son’s choice in life. Yet Eli would raise another boy not his own that would be fruitful in faith his name was Samuel a great prophet in Israel. Do not be heart broken of the things you can not change, but set your heart on the things God gives you to do, and fruitful in the labor before you, that designed by God.

Dear Heavenly Father thank you for the fruitfulness of our labor around us, even when not everything is our way. Make our way yours so the fruit of our labor is fully seen to be your fruit. In Jesus precious name, Amen.

Continual Scripture Study for Devotion:1 Samuel 3:12-15 KJV
(12) In that day I will perform against Eli all things which I have spoken concerning his house: when I begin, I will also make an end.
(13) For I have told him that I will judge his house for ever for the iniquity which he knoweth; because his sons made themselves vile, and he restrained them not.
(14) And therefore I have sworn unto the house of Eli, that the iniquity of Eli's house shall not be purged with sacrifice nor offering for ever.
(15) And Samuel lay until the morning, and opened the doors of the house of the LORD. And Samuel feared to shew Eli the vision.
