Adopted By The Father

Daily Devotions:
by Christina Farris

Galatians 4:1-8 KJV
1 Now I say, That the heir, as long as he is a child, differeth nothing from a servant, though he be lord of all;
2 But is under tutors and governors until the time appointed of the father.
3 Even so we, when we were children, were in bondage under the elements of the world:
4 But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law,
5 To redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons.
6 And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father.
7 Wherefore thou art no more a servant, but a son; and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ.
8 Howbeit then, when ye knew not God, ye did service unto them which by nature are no gods.

To be adopted by God, to be able to call him Father. To know that when we go to him in prayer he hears us, but the Spirit of His Son that he sent to us cries Abba(Father). To know that God the Father is our father by spiritual birth. It is different then having an earthly father though our earthly father's are very important in our life unless abused by them. They determine biologically the sex of what we would be, they give us several of their features, from facial to skin tones and blood type. Earth father's hopefully give clear godly advice and wisdom. Yet some fathers only teach the ways of the world. Nothing wrong with teaching about the world for education purposes, but to follow the ways of evil is not cool. Though many things look good it not always what it seems.

Paul in Galatians because to compare servanthood to a child. Does not a parent teach a child how to do things, so they do not always have to do them, like chores around the house. Hopefully there is a payment of an allowance given for such chores so they are not a slave but a hired for the task need doing. Yet as a family member you also learn to do things without payment because it part of being a family. Yet a family that works together stays together. Yet the child is not the boss in the task the parent is. Just like a servant they do the work for their boss. In God's house he has no servants but adopts his children and gives them the ability to do the task he called them to do.

God calls us to be adopted by him and no longer subject to the world of sin and destruction. He calls us to come to him to allow him to remove that sin from our hearts and soul and replace it with the spirit of his Son to where we now call God Father(Abba in the greek). It is something that no one can take away from you. God the Father always wants the best for you. What he teaches his his laws through His Spirit. Teaches you about the elements of this world are meant for destruction. This old world will pass away but we will be with the Father in the New Jerusalem. Our only task is to believe and to follow after his commandments and one is to the Love the Lord thy God with all thine heart, mind and soul and the other is to love others as yourself. That is the main law of God to follow by the direction of the Holy Spirit. You can love without God.

Have you ever experienced a warning such that the person you talking to is not only being polite by formality and when you turn away only to look back you see the scrowl on the person's face or the mouthing of words that tell you, your instinct was probably right. The point being those of God love with the love of God not with the hidden scrowl. The elements of this world are such that even those we meet might seem or appear to be loving but in truth they are not. If we call God Father, love should be for others as God loved us despite our human failures called sin.

Let us be genuine people of God and not only call God with our lips Father, but mean it in our hearts, soul and mind, to love him because he first loved us and gave his Son for the ransome of many. Let us not forget to love others as God first loved us, seeing our failures and knowing what God was able to do in changing our hearts, mind and soul for his glory.

As we think of our own fathers, often they want to see has grow and change into productive people. Some think they are God to the point they can control every part of their children and their lives and even the life of the wives. The fact somethings might be good, but control is never good thing or a helpful thing. God does not control his children in slave like fashion. He loves them and aids them in the work he called them to and the work and things not ordain maybe but are desires of the heart that are not in the will/ministry of God. Not all God does in our life is about glorifying his name, for he desire good things for us and things we enjoy in life. Yet those things will also glorify God because we know those good gifts are from above also. Those blessing and those open doors.

A family in the summer time going white water rafting not necessarily the will/ministry of God but an activity that can be fun and a time of closeness for a family. God works is not always about ministry but unity, those ties that bind people together. Those things that are different that helps bring others together. Families need time together. As you reflect on Father's day, think of time when you spent with your Father that had nothing to do with the general daily living of the family. May a vacation, maybe a walk, or maybe just hanging out. The point being our time with God sometimes has nothing to do with the open book of the Bible, reading his instructions, sometimes it admiring his handiwork like a sunset, or the fur coat of a dog. It maybe as simple as seeing a person in need and lending a helping hand and only payment is a smile of appreciation for kindness. These times of God are equally important as study of God's word. To know by his word we are adopted by faith in Christ Jesus. That as a child of God we can make a difference for God in another person's life.

Dear Heavenly Father thank you for adoption through your Son and giving us your Spirit to be able to know to call you Father. That your name is above every name on earth and in heaven. In Jesus precious name, Amen.

Continual Scripture Study: Luke 11:11-13 KJV
11 If a son shall ask bread of any of you that is a father, will he give him a stone? or if he ask a fish, will he for a fish give him a serpent?
12 Or if he shall ask an egg, will he offer him a scorpion?
13 If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?
