Daily Devotions:
by Christina Farris

Exodus 2:1-10 KJV
1 And there went a man of the house of Levi, and took to wife a daughter of Levi.
2 And the woman conceived, and bare a son: and when she saw him that he was a goodly child, she hid him three months.
3 And when she could not longer hide him, she took for him an ark of bulrushes, and daubed it with slime and with pitch, and put the child therein; and she laid it in the flags by the river's brink.
4 And his sister stood afar off, to wit what would be done to him.
5 And the daughter of Pharaoh came down to wash herself at the river; and her maidens walked along by the river's side; and when she saw the ark among the flags, she sent her maid to fetch it.
6 And when she had opened it, she saw the child: and, behold, the babe wept. And she had compassion on him, and said, This is one of the Hebrews' children.
7 Then said his sister to Pharaoh's daughter, Shall I go and call to thee a nurse of the Hebrew women, that she may nurse the child for thee?
8 And Pharaoh's daughter said to her, Go. And the maid went and called the child's mother.
9 And Pharaoh's daughter said unto her, Take this child away, and nurse it for me, and I will give thee thy wages. And the woman took the child, and nursed it.
10 And the child grew, and she brought him unto Pharaoh's daughter, and he became her son. And she called his name Moses: and she said, Because I drew him out of the water.

The flags in the pond is a place of safety. A good fishermen knows among the weeds along the bank of any pond or river it is a huge bass waiting to be caught and brough to the surface. A good angler knows how to throw the lure into the weeds or just outside to keep from get hung up in those weeds. And hidden in the weeds is a fish or two, that either went in for shade or found a nice place to make his home there out of the sun and in the shade. Everyone wants to cut those weeds down and it actually destroys the water ways and life structure of a good pond or river way. A little cut will not hurt, but to cut it all, there no place for fish to hide along the bank and no insects to fall into the water for the fish to snap. In Isaiah we see the death of the pond and riverways because of destruction of Egypt to come. It talks how the reeds wither away and be no more. The fishermen would mourn and they that cast along the brook would mourn. Now to understand that the Isaiah 19 comes many thousand of years after the book of Exodus is important, but is also known that Egypt rose up more then once in history to choose the way of idols and wickness over the God of Israel.

A baby cried that was hidden in the flags at the sight of the Princess, only for the Princess to fall in love with him. As soon as the baby hidden in a basket made of bulrushes hidden in the flags along the river was found, it became a vessel not only safety but a hidden treasure in the Pharoah's palace. This child taken care of by his own mother for a time, until he could be taken to the palace after he been weaned, for he still needed milk. The Princess called him Moses because she drew him out of water.

Anglers draw many fish out of water, by the reeds, and flags around a pond or river. The purpose of cutting of the weeds around the ponds and river during time of battle is keep the enemy from hidding within. Moses was the enemy though he became a protected enemy by the hand of God. God took one his children and placed him in the devil den for a time, to see the enemy at work. Moses would learn the ways of Egypt and still be a child of God. He would know his own family outside the gates of the palace, for did not Aaron come to meet him when he came back into Egypt to help talk to the Pharoah for Moses and lead in the escape of the Hebrew people out of Egypt.

One of the biggest threats to angler is snakes within the weeds, but most never worry about it, for the love of the fishing is greater. For Egypt the Princess drew out a snake, for Hebrew People the Princess drew out their savior. Isaiah 19 Egypt destruction by the hand of God dried up everything including the water and the flags and reeds along the water. God's mercy changed with destruction of the reeds and flags destruction. God used the flags to protect his own, but also to bring protection to his own. Giving Pharaoh place time to know who he was before he brought destruction on the land of Egypt, for Moses family would bear witness within the walls of Egyptian palace of him. First God stormed the banks with a baby that one day would be a warrior shepherd of his people. Then when Egypt fell it would build again, and years down the road Egypt would be brought down to destruction once more, this time, the troops would march through dry land and not through the flags of safety. A savior would come to Egypt as well, for there were some that speak the language of Canaan and they would bow to Lord God in the time of trouble. They would understand the word of the Lord and they would be saved.

To be still and know the power of God is to be still and know God has mercy for time and time again. A land not willing to bow to God is not without warning and not without mercy for a time, but eventually they will crumble if they never surrender to God. God sent a Savior his name is Jesus, he sent him to Egypt for two years as a baby before he was allowed to return to Israel and live among his Father God people. We know little of this time, but we know he was there for a time of safety as Moses was in the Palace for the time of safety. God does not frown on those people that protect his leaders or his people. He gives them warning and opportunity to kneel to His power before destruction. He gives them signs of his presence to those that follow Him.

How much destruction does a country need before God either destroys, or a country repents, only God's knows, but evil can not remain in the land of even the heathens, for destruction will come to even his people who are in disobedience to him. If I could sum up the history within the books of the Bible would be nations rise and fall, and any in disobedience to God will be destroyed, but a remnant of the faithful will survive that put their hope and trust in Jesus(God's word in the flesh), God the Father and the Holy Spirit.

America's flag waves true but it only offers the protection of those laws that are obeyed by the constitution. If the country of the US does not hold to those rights of freedom of all America, the flag might as well no longer stand in protection of our land. The stand of a believer in Christ who holds to the protection of Christ is shelter in the flags around God's pond, but sometimes God places his people in places far and wide to leave his mark among a people different then theirs. It does not necessarily change the people, but it will change a few. It is those few that will carry a torch for Jesus and truth of his word. His word is not in opposition of our country freedom but it is often thought ot be, by the extremous that fail to recognize those outside their own circle of faith that do exist.

May the first flag of protection be those flags over Moses and then the banner of love over God's people name Jesus, who paid the price for our sins and set us all free, upon belief in Him. American flag only as true as it holds to faith in God and country and the laws of our land. Let us not forget our flag may wave tall, but if it fails, and falls, then it becomes like Egypt for us all in a land of destruction. Consitution teaches respect for others, and protection for all. It does not prevent sin, but it holds to a mark of human rights that holds to freedom in our land. Christ word is about protected not only from sin, but the freedom of life to make choices with the consequences of that choice. If God is for us, who can be against us, the devil is you can rest assured and he will try and destroy our nation. God will win in the end and if we will hold to Him and His Son by His Spirit.

Dear Heavenly Father thank you for the flags of protection and drawing out of the water for our continue protection. In Jesus precious name, Amen.

Continual Scripture Study: Isaiah 19:1-25 KJV
1 The burden of Egypt. Behold, the LORD rideth upon a swift cloud, and shall come into Egypt: and the idols of Egypt shall be moved at his presence, and the heart of Egypt shall melt in the midst of it.
2 And I will set the Egyptians against the Egyptians: and they shall fight every one against his brother, and every one against his neighbour; city against city, and kingdom against kingdom.
3 And the spirit of Egypt shall fail in the midst thereof; and I will destroy the counsel thereof: and they shall seek to the idols, and to the charmers, and to them that have familiar spirits, and to the wizards.
4 And the Egyptians will I give over into the hand of a cruel lord; and a fierce king shall rule over them, saith the Lord, the LORD of hosts.
5 And the waters shall fail from the sea, and the river shall be wasted and dried up.
6 And they shall turn the rivers far away; and the brooks of defence shall be emptied and dried up: the reeds and flags shall wither.
7 The paper reeds by the brooks, by the mouth of the brooks, and every thing sown by the brooks, shall wither, be driven away, and be no more.
8 The fishers also shall mourn, and all they that cast angle into the brooks shall lament, and they that spread nets upon the waters shall languish.
9 Moreover they that work in fine flax, and they that weave networks, shall be confounded.
10 And they shall be broken in the purposes thereof, all that make sluices and ponds for fish.
11 Surely the princes of Zoan are fools, the counsel of the wise counsellors of Pharaoh is become brutish: how say ye unto Pharaoh, I am the son of the wise, the son of ancient kings?
12 Where are they? where are thy wise men? and let them tell thee now, and let them know what the LORD of hosts hath purposed upon Egypt.
13 The princes of Zoan are become fools, the princes of Noph are deceived; they have also seduced Egypt, even they that are the stay of the tribes thereof.
14 The LORD hath mingled a perverse spirit in the midst thereof: and they have caused Egypt to err in every work thereof, as a drunken man staggereth in his vomit.
15 Neither shall there be any work for Egypt, which the head or tail, branch or rush, may do.
16 In that day shall Egypt be like unto women: and it shall be afraid and fear because of the shaking of the hand of the LORD of hosts, which he shaketh over it.
17 And the land of Judah shall be a terror unto Egypt, every one that maketh mention thereof shall be afraid in himself, because of the counsel of the LORD of hosts, which he hath determined against it.
18 In that day shall five cities in the land of Egypt speak the language of Canaan, and swear to the LORD of hosts; one shall be called, The city of destruction.
19 In that day shall there be an altar to the LORD in the midst of the land of Egypt, and a pillar at the border thereof to the LORD.
20 And it shall be for a sign and for a witness unto the LORD of hosts in the land of Egypt: for they shall cry unto the LORD because of the oppressors, and he shall send them a saviour, and a great one, and he shall deliver them.
21 And the LORD shall be known to Egypt, and the Egyptians shall know the LORD in that day, and shall do sacrifice and oblation; yea, they shall vow a vow unto the LORD, and perform it.
22 And the LORD shall smite Egypt: he shall smite and heal it: and they shall return even to the LORD, and he shall be intreated of them, and shall heal them.
23 In that day shall there be a highway out of Egypt to Assyria, and the Assyrian shall come into Egypt, and the Egyptian into Assyria, and the Egyptians shall serve with the Assyrians.
24 In that day shall Israel be the third with Egypt and with Assyria, even a blessing in the midst of the land:
25 Whom the LORD of hosts shall bless, saying, Blessed be Egypt my people, and Assyria the work of my hands, and Israel mine inheritance.
