Daily Devotions:
by Christina Farris

1 Samuel 17:32-58 KJV
32 And David said to Saul, Let no man's heart fail because of him; thy servant will go and fight with this Philistine.
33 And Saul said to David, Thou art not able to go against this Philistine to fight with him: for thou art but a youth, and he a man of war from his youth.
34 And David said unto Saul, Thy servant kept his father's sheep, and there came a lion, and a bear, and took a lamb out of the flock:
35 And I went out after him, and smote him, and delivered it out of his mouth: and when he arose against me, I caught him by his beard, and smote him, and slew him.
36 Thy servant slew both the lion and the bear: and this uncircumcised Philistine shall be as one of them, seeing he hath defied the armies of the living God.
37 David said moreover, The LORD that delivered me out of the paw of the lion, and out of the paw of the bear, he will deliver me out of the hand of this Philistine. And Saul said unto David, Go, and the LORD be with thee.
38 And Saul armed David with his armour, and he put an helmet of brass upon his head; also he armed him with a coat of mail.
39 And David girded his sword upon his armour, and he assayed to go; for he had not proved it. And David said unto Saul, I cannot go with these; for I have not proved them. And David put them off him.
40 And he took his staff in his hand, and chose him five smooth stones out of the brook, and put them in a shepherd's bag which he had, even in a scrip; and his sling was in his hand: and he drew near to the Philistine.
41 And the Philistine came on and drew near unto David; and the man that bare the shield went before him.
42 And when the Philistine looked about, and saw David, he disdained him: for he was but a youth, and ruddy, and of a fair countenance.
43 And the Philistine said unto David, Am I a dog, that thou comest to me with staves? And the Philistine cursed David by his gods.
44 And the Philistine said to David, Come to me, and I will give thy flesh unto the fowls of the air, and to the beasts of the field.
45 Then said David to the Philistine, Thou comest to me with a sword, and with a spear, and with a shield: but I come to thee in the name of the LORD of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom thou hast defied.
46 This day will the LORD deliver thee into mine hand; and I will smite thee, and take thine head from thee; and I will give the carcases of the host of the Philistines this day unto the fowls of the air, and to the wild beasts of the earth; that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel.
47 And all this assembly shall know that the LORD saveth not with sword and spear: for the battle is the LORD'S, and he will give you into our hands.
48 And it came to pass, when the Philistine arose, and came and drew nigh to meet David, that David hasted, and ran toward the army to meet the Philistine.
49 And David put his hand in his bag, and took thence a stone, and slang it, and smote the Philistine in his forehead, that the stone sunk into his forehead; and he fell upon his face to the earth.
50 So David prevailed over the Philistine with a sling and with a stone, and smote the Philistine, and slew him; but there was no sword in the hand of David.
51 Therefore David ran, and stood upon the Philistine, and took his sword, and drew it out of the sheath thereof, and slew him, and cut off his head therewith. And when the Philistines saw their champion was dead, they fled.
52 And the men of Israel and of Judah arose, and shouted, and pursued the Philistines, until thou come to the valley, and to the gates of Ekron. And the wounded of the Philistines fell down by the way to Shaaraim, even unto Gath, and unto Ekron.
53 And the children of Israel returned from chasing after the Philistines, and they spoiled their tents.
54 And David took the head of the Philistine, and brought it to Jerusalem; but he put his armour in his tent.
55 And when Saul saw David go forth against the Philistine, he said unto Abner, the captain of the host, Abner, whose son is this youth? And Abner said, As thy soul liveth, O king, I cannot tell.
56 And the king said, Enquire thou whose son the stripling is.
57 And as David returned from the slaughter of the Philistine, Abner took him, and brought him before Saul with the head of the Philistine in his hand.
58 And Saul said to him, Whose son art thou, thou young man? And David answered, I am the son of thy servant Jesse the Bethlehemite.

Let us begin with this thought no one ever thinks about what they send their children to do. I seen children use tools that for other children those same tools would be forbidden to be used by their parents. Yet those same children seem to possess a skill others lack. I don't recommend power tools for children unless they skilled in other areas, that says they can handle the responsibility of those tools. David was sent out to do a man job by tending the field of sheep, where he would have to fight off predators, from lions and bears and so forth. Now for a young man that was impossible feat if we compare young boys to boys of today. Yet David was skilled with a sling and a knife and probably a little bit more that not mention in scripture as far as weaponry, for instance an ax. David had learn to use these tools but he had never used the kings sword or mantle. The weapons of war of the king was not proven to be a strength to him. In other words he was untrained in use of the Kings weapons. Thus said he gave King Saul his weaponry back and said I fight with the equipment I know how to fight with and use. His nation being a godly one, knew that he would have to go in the power of God to win the battle.

This giant name Goliathe seen David and start mocking him because he seen David as a boy even maybe more so then the Israelites because of his great heighth. Yet Goliathe knew not the power of God or the strength of this boy to defeat him. If we think on it what better soldier was needed but a boy to scare the enemy in battle. If boy was that strong what was the rest of the fighting men of Israel. David words was that all the assembly of the Philistines would know that the Lord does not save with sword and spears but the battle is the Lord's and the Lord would give them into Israel hands.

As David took the five stone he collected and put the first one in the sling, David whirled it around, it left his sling, and hit the giant, the giant fell to the ground and David cut off his head, winning the battle for His God, his faith and his country men that trembled in fear. God does not need the strong to win God's battles he takes the willing and even the weak. It matter not how young you are, or how old you are, but if you obey the Lord when it comes to fighting the enemy. Timothy was told not to worry about his youth but set the example to the believers in I Timothy 4:12. The battle of faith is based not on weapons of warfare with swords and spears/ guns, but by the power of God working in the life of the believer enabling to deal with the enemy. We all fail and even fall like David brothers who had the same history of tending their father's sheep. Yet all of Israel was in fear, until David killed the giant and then they persued the enemy. David had the knowledge of his tools to defeat the enemy and knew how to use his tools. What is a Christian tools the word of God. The one tool called the Bible, the tool to share with others about Jesus and salvation. The tool by itself has the power of God within the pages to convict the soul, but God desires messengers to carry his word forth through using Bible scripture.

Ministry is not about gadgets or attention grabbers but about sharing that same scripture that convicted your own heart long ago. It not being the strongest minister out there or even the wisest and brightest one of them all. It is about just sharing Jesus and His power to redeem each and every one of us despite our failings in this world. David used a stone he tossed. When we sow seed of faith we sowing the word of God which is the solid rock and who name is Jesus.

What is weapons of war, but things of man, things man learns skills in. King Saul mantle and sword were untested by David, though he did not doubt they worked, Even at the time of exile Israel in one verse admitted defeat because of technology. Yet technology might win the war of physical battle it can not win a spiritual battle. So if God word seems to be dying do not fear, whatever is happening will cause God's word to rise again in battle for the battle of faith is not fought with human hands, but with the heart of faith, believing God's power can do the impossible in difficult circumstances and teaches love and peace even to the enemy of war. People like being treated with compassion and love more then anger and hate.

Dear Heavenly Father may you word be the sword used in defeating the enemy, not the weapons of technology. In Jesus precious name, Amen.

Continual Scripture Study: Hebrews 4:12 KJV

12 For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

1 Timothy 4:11-16 KJV
11 These things command and teach.
12 Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity.
13 Till I come, give attendance to reading, to exhortation, to doctrine.
14 Neglect not the gift that is in thee, which was given thee by prophecy, with the laying on of the hands of the presbytery.
15 Meditate upon these things; give thyself wholly to them; that thy profiting may appear to all. 16 Take heed unto thyself, and unto the doctrine; continue in them: for in doing this thou shalt both save thyself, and them that hear thee.
