Prophesy And A Speakable Crime

Daily Devotions:
by Christina Farris

John 11:47-57 KJV
47 Then gathered the chief priests and the Pharisees a council, and said, What do we? for this man doeth many miracles.
48 If we let him thus alone, all men will believe on him: and the Romans shall come and take away both our place and nation.
49 And one of them, named Caiaphas, being the high priest that same year, said unto them, Ye know nothing at all,
50 Nor consider that it is expedient for us, that one man should die for the people, and that the whole nation perish not.
51 And this spake he not of himself: but being high priest that year, he prophesied that Jesus should die for that nation;
52 And not for that nation only, but that also he should gather together in one the children of God that were scattered abroad.
53 Then from that day forth they took counsel together for to put him to death.
54 Jesus therefore walked no more openly among the Jews; but went thence unto a country near to the wilderness, into a city called Ephraim, and there continued with his disciples.
55 And the Jews' passover was nigh at hand: and many went out of the country up to Jerusalem before the passover, to purify themselves.
56 Then sought they for Jesus, and spake among themselves, as they stood in the temple, What think ye, that he will not come to the feast?
57 Now both the chief priests and the Pharisees had given a commandment, that, if any man knew where he were, he should shew it, that they might take him.

When scripture is read and prophesy is talked about the one thing easy to say oh that was for this time frame. Yet when we read of prophetic message about a death, and it is not twenty or hundred years later but current it unnerving. Jesus death was predicted within the year of his death besides in the New Testament. His demise was discussed because of the crowd gathering and following Jesus. The religious leaders did not believe the prophesy of Jesus, yet some did believe. How can some believe and others not. If Jewish people hearts would be harden which is prophesied, we have to ask whose heart is heart harden. The none believers heart is harden. Those not believing and those believing were also blind to what was happening. There are degrees of belief. One can have faith and so event can happen be blinded by the truth. Then you have those like Pharaoh with prophesy refuse to yield to God and his heart was harden. Pharaoh in Exodus was like some leaders dealing with foreign governments. Religious leaders would go with their leaders despite their view at times for the purpose of keeping peace to be unified force. Yet it also lays opportunity to do good even with bad decisions. Nicodemus a scribe who came to Jesus at night would prepare his body for burial along with Joseph of Armithea a counselor. Both were believers, but neither tried to stop the crucifixion. Can such a prophesy of death be prophetic. Can a heart be harden knowing the prophesy of the Messiah death and resurrection. Truth is yes, but one would almost have to be there to fully grasp this thought. There was a plot to see execution of Jesus. Yet this plot was part of prophesy. If they had study their scrolls they would of understood they were following into God's divine plan for Jesus death on the cross. To pay the price for our sin.

Why were the religious leaders upset. Their life style was changing because people were following Jesus and not them anymore. The people would go in droves of thousands to see Jesus. The crowd causing financial hardship to the people, causing government to hear about it. If you have five hamburger stands and five thousand people each stand would have to cook 1000 hamburgers, if each person only bought one hamburger and the crowd was divided into five equal groups. Now imagine for a moment a small town of couple hundred people having to feed 10000 people that were marching through their land to see someone important. Cities are use to dealing with crowds. But remember refrigeration in the desert was unheard of. Food would be fresh or killed same time one plan to cook and eat it. Crowd was getting larger that was following Jesus. The whole area was following because of miracles, especially of Lazarus being raised from the dead. Jews religious leaders feed large crowds at times, in fact it was their duty to care for those coming to the temple. The government would of been concern of the disturbance, his name would be before the government. Yet all he did was good things. I am sure the Roman Government probably had issues with the strict religious law of God, though their were government officials that were believers. Jesus taught in the temple, and even worshipped in the temple. He taught the gentiles in the wilderness. The very thing the priest should of been doing. In fact this crowd should of been coming to the temple in regards to seeking God but instead they followed Jesus because of the wonders of God He performed. Imagine a standpede coming through a small town, but instead it being cows it is people. It is like locus and grasshoppers destroying a field of produce.

Joel speaks of this time period, but also speaks of blessing flowing. It also speaks of the Holy Spirit coming. The Holy Spirit coming to both men and women. Joel speaks of the time of the Holy Spirit coming later not during the time of Christ. Religious leaders of Christ day heart were harden to prophesy. Christ resurrection was evidence to religious leaders as well as disciples, and many more people. Over 500 witness saw Jesus alive after his death on the cross. Pharisees could only see their life style changing and possible government interference in their daily life. The government would sanction religion. Why not stop it, if one death would solve it. No one death would lead to another resurrection that would disrupted the world for decades. God still stirring his people through prophesy. Something are of God and something are not. Beware of what is not. The religious leaders were harden to the truth of the prophesy of the Old Testament, so their plot seems more like murder then God's divine plan. Some religious leaders both at the time of Christ and now are no longer harden. Pray daily for these men that deal with their brethren of the Jewish faith.

Dear Heavenly Father, move in our nation through the church world, and through your people no matter where they are. Fill your people so they can testify for you to all people. In Jesus precious name, Amen.

Continual Scripture Study for Devotion: Joel 2:23-32 KJV
23 Be glad then, ye children of Zion, and rejoice in the LORD your God: for he hath given you the former rain moderately, and he will cause to come down for you the rain, the former rain, and the latter rain in the first month.
24 And the floors shall be full of wheat, and the fats shall overflow with wine and oil.
25 And I will restore to you the years that the locust hath eaten, the cankerworm, and the caterpiller, and the palmerworm, my great army which I sent among you.
26 And ye shall eat in plenty, and be satisfied, and praise the name of the LORD your God, that hath dealt wondrously with you: and my people shall never be ashamed.
27 And ye shall know that I am in the midst of Israel, and that I am the LORD your God, and none else: and my people shall never be ashamed.
28 And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions:
29 And also upon the servants and upon the handmaids in those days will I pour out my spirit. 30 And I will shew wonders in the heavens and in the earth, blood, and fire, and pillars of smoke.
31 The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and the terrible day of the LORD come.
32 And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the LORD shall be delivered: for in mount Zion and in Jerusalem shall be deliverance, as the LORD hath said, and in the remnant whom the LORD shall call.
